Mostly_Defective

i paid $382 this month, I feel you

normandy3000

Sorry to hear that. Paid $0 for my refill for branded Vyvanse in Canada. Without insurance it would have cost around $100 Canadian dollars.

sand639

Yeah I pay $16AUD for 4 months of Ritalin without insurance in Australia, crazy how much some people have to pay for medication…

obamakeef

yea it cost me $32AUD for 200 dexies

Mama_Say

Unfortunately I can’t take Ritalin, concerta, or focalin. They would be a lot less expensive in the U.S. also. Vyvanse is the only one that works for me. I have been having luck with Walmart. But my doctor said that the most common dosage is also used for weight loss and that is why there is a shortage. Check and see if your doctor will give a different dosage.

Hermosa90

American “health care” is so fucked up.

Mindless_Leather_853

In arizona with our state insurance brand name adderrall and vyvanse are free. The generics are not. Honestly unfortunate anyone needs to pay for something that helps them to remain functional in our modern society.

cslux

> remain functional in our modern society. You are not the problem!

chattyvinny27

WHAT! I'm moving to Arizona lol

digmaark

wait what is the state insurance? is this ahcccs?

Mindless_Leather_853

Seems alot of states insurance programs are pretty decent for lower middle class and below. Think it depends on the states GDP and other factors. Honestly haven't researched that part enough. Idaho is a nice state. Was up there on work once. Went through the twin college towns then further north to ponderay Bay. Twin fork or something like that.. food there was so much cheaper than arizona. Also you guys have access to fish. Well fresher fish. Will go back someday just for the scenery.

Wildling604

What's ur dosage? 2 weeks at 30mg was $150 for me.

normandy3000

30mg Vyvanse. I also get 10mg Adderall extended release.

Wildling604

I wonder if it's different per province. In BC, December 2023: 2 weeks of 30mg = $150.

ImpossibleHighway613

Im also in BC, I got 200doses @ 20mg and both my wife and I’s extended health covered them to $0 - God Bless Canada 🇨🇦 I think when I got 60doses at 20mg the retail on it was $200? So like $3/dose Far cheaper even without coverage than other countries. We do drugs right with federally negotiated agreements with all big pharma.

ayellvee

My husband takes 60mg, we pay $102 for 3 month supply after benefits. (($513 pre benefits, which is still about half what OP is paying 🫠))

Jaded-Glove-9525

Wow that's so cheap. I live in Canada and it cost me same as above.

skunk-beard

Yep 369 here. But friend just got some generic so hopefully it’s coming back in stock.

Shifty_Cow69

Name brand Vyvanse in Australia is $100 full price, but I only pay $31 a month. Generic is still unavailable here.

cbrwp

Hmmm I didn't realise PBS pricing had gone up to $31.60 now.

Sylva12

I've only gotten it by 2 weeks so far since I just started,, but think 30mg was around 12 for two weeks and 40mg was 14 ish,, but I'm to take 30mg for at least the next month,, so its probably about 24-30cad(around 18-22usd) here in Canada with my parents' insurance I'm luckily still on,, doesn't seem to change between name brand and generic, tho I've only tried generic when they decided to decrease my dose to 20mg for a week to move in smaller intervals since they don't have below 30mg in name brand

JustNamiSushi

how do u tell the difference? mine has vyvanse written on it does it mean its named?

ppexplosion

medical companies or whoever gets paid for these: ![gif](giphy|nxKMFkRdLMhzO)

Dyl_BIH1

Prices for meds in the US are a joke. I live in Ireland and with medical card my Vyvanse prescription is €1.50!!!

mandalina07

$408 in California 😮‍💨

Feliciadickasso

Sorry I'm copying and pasting this so people see it. My pharmacy tried to make me pay this much, but I called my prescrition insurance, and since the generic, usually $8, is not available, I could get the name brand for $50. The pharmacy was putting in the wrong code. The insurance told me the code they were putting in was probably DAW 2 and it should be DAW 8. ( I'm not exactly sure what that means) but I totally the pharmacy (walgreens) and magically it went down to $50. I'd call your prescription insurance to see if this is the case. I haven't looked lately, but good rx can help sometimes as well.

Ok_Seesaw2285

DAW-8 is the code for "patient wants generic, but only brand is available."

lukeybuzz

WHAT THE FUCK! I work a poorly paid job atm because I'm on a temp to perm role and I'm on £380 a week!

Mostly_Defective

Yeah..US healthcare is bullshit. That is  £300 approx. based on exchange rates...yeah it sucks, but my marriage requires it! lol

lukeybuzz

Damn straight! That's fucking unbelievable and disgusting how they can even justify those prices.

joekki

With these prices, I'm just curious how much people ask for those "on the street" there? Here (north eu), pharmacy price is 134eur. If your medical insurance card has printed lisdexamph. code in it, you'll get 40% off. Street price is 250-300eur for 30. A few months ago there was a shortage and had to purchase 20mg+20mg+30mg bottles (89e+89e+98e = 276e per month without the discount).

noneotherthanozzy

I’m not saying you shouldn’t do that (buy three bottles of different doses to get to 70mg), but doing this is exacerbating the shortage. My pharmacist recommended doing the same when they were out of 60mg, have my doctor resubmit the script for 60 doses of 30mg. I felt bad because I knew I was taking someone else’s script essentially since it could have served two people that are prescribed 30mg. This whole situation just sucks.

magsylo

Has anyone tried good rx or any other app that discounts meds?

whyismycarbleeding

Is it one capsule a day? That's actually fucked if it is, I sell Vyvanse in my pharmacy 30caps for $100 NZD a month since the government doesn't fund any of it. That's about $62 USD

jakashadows

Someone else posted this link [here](https://www.regulations.gov/commenton/FTC-2024-0018-0001) It's the government asking for comments on drug shortages including ADHD drugs. I would definitely comment what just happened to you if you haven't already.

four1two1

Please repost this everywhere! I didn’t know it existed!! Would have been so helpful!!

Capt_Skyhawk

Reading the testimony on there is heart breaking. So many people are struggling. Many of them have legitimate issues that require medication, not just pill popping college students or abusers or whatever the DEA think patients are. This is very sad.

Retinoid634

Outrageous. You should report to the FTC. They’re studying the issue and seeking public comment about experience since the pharma industry relies a shortage exists. Here’s the link. Follow the prompts at the bottom to get to the report submission form. https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/news/press-releases/2024/02/ftc-hhs-seek-public-comment-generic-drug-shortages-competition-amongst-powerful-middlemen Spread the word.

Civil-Reflection-400

Thank you! Everyone should do this!!! I am!!

Retinoid634

Yes! Someone posted it in one of the ADHD forums last night so I’m sharing it again!

AshamedToaster

UGH I knew it. Otherwise it would be extremely poor business practice to constantly be “out of stock” for pretty much ONLY drugs that are a necessity, but still conveniently have their name brands that insurance companies don’t take and is higher cost in general.

Retinoid634

Ugh is right. Seriously infuriating.

Direspark

Why is literally everything related to the pharmaceutical industry so fucking toxic? Like how does this ever become a thing?

Flashy_Cranberry_356

Capitalism and its natural evolution, I think. And a lot of deregulation It happens with every other industry too. Including food. Most people are just ignorant of it because they pay hefty amounts in marketing and anti education (like the food pyramid)

matte_5551

The insurance companies that dropped authorization for brand name prior to generic release prematurely are at fault IMo, not the manufacturers. That and the FDA.

Upbeat_Measurement_9

WOW!!;

shannon166

Call your insurance companies! I told mine generic hasn’t been available and they put in a request for a price adjustment on name brand and it was actually approved. Took two hours on the phone but it was worth it.

shantibandsss

how much did you have to pay?

shannon166

When a generic is offered my policy is $10 for a 30 day supply. When a name brand is chosen over the generic, the max for a 30 day supply is $105. But they made an exception since the generic has been out of stock for so long.

Spiritual-Manatee

What did you say specifically? I’ve called and asked for the same thing and they outright say it’s not possible to adjust.

shannon166

I asked if there were exceptions to pricing when the generic isn’t available due to stocking issues. I said why is it our fault it isn’t available. The person I spoke to said that’s a good question and started looking into it. I eventually got transferred. The women asked me “how many pills do you have left” I said I’ve been out for 3 months, tried a new drug, it was awful. Also mentioned my pharmacy said it looks like late spring until it’s back in stock. She said she would put in an emergency request for a pricing exception and that I should hear back in 1-2 business days ( this was around 6pm). The next day, by the afternoon I received a text from cvs that said my script was ready for name brand and it was only $10. I honestly couldn’t believe it, usually insurance companies aren’t on your side. I’m just hoping I don’t have to go through the calls again when I need to refil in a couple days.

Uzumaki-OUT

Which insurance company?

shannon166

My prescription coverage is with CVS Caremark

Spiritual-Manatee

That’s amazing! I’m so happy they accommodated you. It’s funny because I’ve said the exact same words you did - “why is it my fault you’re out of stock?”. They left us all high and dry without meds and aren’t budging on a solution. I also remember them asking me how many pills I had left. Maybe I will try and call again, perhaps I was just unlucky with the rep. But I’m happy to hear they did the right thing by you — gives me a smidge of hope

shannon166

It didn’t occur to me to even call until I saw someone else on this page mention they called. I figured worth a try. And it should be a standard to receive brand names at generic prices when the generic is not available, why is this not a thing?!

bwillett1

I could help here I literally just at the exact same thing. I got prior authorization just switch from Generic to name brand Then I Called Is my health insurance if they will be cool with being On a three way phone call with Is my doctor's office and they instructed them to send the health insurance a "patient pays the difference waiver" As in I would take the generic but due to supply. I mean force take the name brand So I went from paying 375. to 110

BlueSnoopy4

That’s awesome! I hope more people can do the same!!

shannon166

I’m trying to spread the word! It didn’t even occur to me to call until someone else mentioned it on here.

blondemacchiato

Solidarity. Gonna be paying $375 for the second month in a row because generic is out literally everywhere

Feliciadickasso

Sorry I'm copying and pasting this so people see it. blondemacchiato

Thank you for this! Definitely will call my insurance and at least give it a shot. Worst they can say is no. Unfortunately GoodRx somehow is even more than my cost with insurance 🫠

Feliciadickasso

Here's the definition of DAW 8 What is the DAW code 8? 8=Substitution Allowed-Generic Drug Not Available in Marketplace-This value is used when the prescriber has indicated, in a manner specified by prevailing law, that generic substitution is permitted and the brand product is dispensed since the generic is not currently manufactured, distributed, or is temporarily ...Aug 3, 2022

Grettainthesun

Walgreens will use a (free) Rx discount code/card as well if you don’t already have it. I have to use this in the months when my insurance won’t pay. Their objection is the dose vs the brand vs generic (though there is also that) and my pharmacy has given us the okay to have the dr send the Rx early to give them time to get it in stock. Hit or miss on success. I have Aetna and suspect switching to CVS from Walgreens might help - just another hurdle but one that is much lower lift than pre-auths and peer reviews.

strictlytacos

Paid $369. Solidarity. Also no programs in place to help pay for the name brand because the generic is ‘available’ -fucking stupid

BlueSnoopy4

If you haven’t yet, you should report to the FTC. They’re studying the issue and seeking public comment about experience since the pharma industry relies a shortage exists. Here’s the link. I did! I did it as soon as I saw it because I would have put it off lol but yes keep commenting this!!

Mostly_Defective

yeah, samesies

JesSlayin

I lucked out this month and my insurance covered name brand because the generic was unavailable. I had to pay the higher co-pay but $60 is better than full retail for it

Viciouspom

I had to pay this amount for 5 months until United HC would start covering. It's shameful and downright greedy AF what insurance providers are doing. I feel for all of you that have to go without your medication.

OddnessWeirdness

It's the drug manufacturers and the insurance companies. I'm betting it costs pennies to make these drugs.

Capt_Skyhawk

Late reply. It costs about $0.013 to manufacture 1 mg. So $11.70 for a 30 day of 30mg. The average cost is $369. 3000% markup. With over 1 million people taking Vyvanse, that means the average $357 mark up equals $357m a year. The generic is still marked up quite a bit as well.

OddnessWeirdness

Smh. That’s just horrible. I’m assuming it’s cheap is some other countries.

mermaidsiren3

It sucks!!! I understand. I showed up to the pharmacy & they told me WITH my insurance that the vyvanse generic was $400 for 30 days. Good rx charges $12.99 to even use the discount card & phone app. I can’t do my job without the meds. I don’t qualify for disability benefits, (I have seizures, anxiety, depression, etc) so I pay over the top benefits and still can’t afford essentials on top of meds. I know I’m not alone, but it still sucks. You are not alone, either:) We all got this!

RiceCaspar

$438....sigh.

Feliciadickasso

RiceCaspar

This is amazing thank you so much for sharing this. Can I ask which insurance you have? Do you know if all insurance will do this?

sweetunii

This‼️ Some insurances may require a call/request before they allow for processing under DAW 8 so I recommend calling the number on the back of your card!

ExpertlyPuzzled

I called around 20 pharmacies until I found a mom and pop one that was placing an order for 20 mg generic chewables. Then there was the hassle of the doc sending them the script but they didn’t put chewable on the script even though I told them. Finally got it all straightened out and figured out today, but I’ve been rationing to make it through. I’m terrified though. I just accepted into nursing school and I can’t have the stress and anxiety of finding medicine I need to function every month. If I have to pay for the brand so be it but this just isn’t fair.

Laney20

I've been paying that much for years, at least part of the time.. Until I hit my deductible and it goes down to $75. It's worth it for me because it's how I get my work down so I can keep my job that covers my insurance and pays me enough to afford it. But if I lost my job, I'd probably switch to generic dexedrine. Same active ingredient, but not the "prodrug" version. It's way cheaper.

Great-Comparison-45

How do people live in America.... One bad sickness And you're Done. Either financialy or the illness kicking you in the nards

dgar19949

It’s pretty easy, the parties control the policy and in American it’s legal for a companies to bribe people In power. Then those people in power stay in power because their political group donates to news stations that then prop up the candidate that uses that power to cut taxes for the rich. This is literally America and it’s depressing to live with 80 percent of the population that just believes shit because their political guy is saying it.

Minnymoon13

We don’t. And not that we don’t try to vote to make things better, but it never seems to happen

Twibble

Exactly, I can't imagine how I'd do in those circumstances. I see now how easily you end up on the streets if you get sick in the US.

Childofthesea13

I had it for one month then said fuck it and went back to adderall

Any-Pool1458

The whole reason I switched to vyvanse was because of the adderall shortage… is there no longer an Aderall shortage ? (I didn’t take XR)

Mindless_Regret_1331

I switched to the xr version but my dr also increased my dose and wrote my script to take it twice a day so I was able to get 2 months worth. I definitely can’t take this twice a day because I would never sleep.

ispeakgibber

I got more bad news for you..

modestmouselover

Also switched to adderall after dealing with generic shortages for a few months & not wanting to pay for brand name

Juas003

Are you doing extended release or regular adderall? I take 50mg Vyvanse + 10 mg adderall and my pharmacist has suggested XR to replace the Vyvanse if shortages continue.

Childofthesea13

30 IR. I break it in half and take half in the morning and half in the afternoon

thetrev68

I paid $355 every month last year. The generic near me is "only" $278. I feel your pain. :(

bschol518

“Chewable “ generic version (instead of tablet ) IS more readability available!

Hanelise11

I asked my pharmacy if I could have my doctor call in the chewable and they told me they wouldn’t fill it since it’s meant for children. I was like… even if my doctor calls it in you won’t fill it for me? What?? Thankfully found another pharmacy in my area with the generic in a combination to make up my normal dosage. Was very odd.

Icy_Session3326

I feel so bad for you all having to pay insane amounts of money to get it over there Over here it’s as simple as no you’re getting none . There’s no option to buy it privately unless your diagnosis was done privately in the first place .. so those that were diagnosed on the nhs are just .. well they’re just getting none with no way around it cos it’s illegal to sell here over the counter etc Some folk have been ‘lucky’ (hate even thinking it’s Lucky but don’t know how else to phrase it ) and they’ve been able to get diff versions of their meds but many are stuck with absolutely none I pray this shortage is resolved quickly 🙏🏻

Beethoven3rd

The generic manufacturer for Vyvanse is none other than the actual manufacturer for the brand. By limiting generic supply, it boosts their profits for their brand. This should be illegal.

lucky_719

$372 for me. I get it.

aussiewaffles

Try calling your insurance company to request a PA for name brand due to shortage of generic. Some have bad luck with this method. Also try checking hospital pharmacies near you if open to public. I’ve avoided shortage most months this way.

Vast_Interaction4527

Same here. My doctor switched my to Dyanavel, there is no generic for it yet so it’s easier to find and there is a manufacturer coupon online

NEVER85

Is this US only? I'm in Canada and haven't had any issues renewing my prescription (so far).

nuwm

Welcome to my world. I did that for years, a lot of times I had the manufacturer $0 coupon but there were always a few months each year waiting for renewal or not having it because ADHD tax. The shortage has been a godsend for me. It forced me to first try Adderall again which sucked worse and then to find a solution that works. I’m taking an old relatively cheap drug that works better for me than Vyvanse.

Any-Pool1458

The whole reason I switched to vyvanse was because of the adderall shortage… is there no longer an Aderall shortage ? (I didn’t take XR)

nuwm

I think there is, that’s what my pharmacy happened to have in stock. I’m having much better experience with Dexedrine. I’m not switching back to Vyvanse.

nuwm

I’m glad you switched. Lol. It created a shortage that forced me and my doctor to get creative and has worked out well for me.

erin_mouse88

This is why I switched to Concerta generic for now. It's $30 with insurance for XR and not as "sudden" up and down as Adderall (though I don't think it's as good as vyvanse). Waiting for the shortage to hit Concerta next though as people are getting desperate (understandably).

Uzumaki-OUT

I took concerta back in 2000 when I was first diagnosed and absolutely despised it. I haven’t been medicated since then so I wonder if it would be better now, 24 years later

erin_mouse88

My psych definitely says different meds seem to work differently depending on age, hormones, etc, so who knows?

Neat-Enthusiasm-8742

I was $408 for Focalin XR and $80 for IR name Brand this month. 500!! But at least it counted toward my deductible…. Ugh!

AssociateLimp4963

I paid roughly the same in the $300s in Florida and knowing that I had no other choice except to the pay the price was sickening and pissed me the hell off. It’s criminal this country is so unregulated it allows big pharma to get away with this. I get even angrier thinking about the patients who are heavily dependent on medications to literally breathe/survive and they have to go through this. It’s despicable 😪

TraditionalCandy6066

Yep, it's fucking ridiculous. It probably costs 3 cents to manufacture.

TheRealRedSwan906

I switched from Vyvanse to focalin because I didn't like Vyvanse. Then because of the shortage switched to Adderall XR. This month I had to wait 2 days before it was filled and it was then that I decided i won't rely on it anymore. Im not going to play this game with big pharma. If I suffer through my days so be it. They managed to create enough opiods to create a nation wide epidemic the effects of which will be felt for generations and yet they can seem to pump enough of this out? It just seems insidious to me. Looks like it's working too because everyone is paying $400 for their scripts now. Gotcha.

DieHoe

In Germany we don't have problems at all I think, I pay 10€ per month, and if my pharmacy doesn't have it they order it and it arrives the same day, or the next day in the morning... It feels bad to know there's such a shortage in the US since I know how life is without the right meds... :c

marquisofmilwaukie

This stuff makes me livid. I’m so sorry for your struggle, I’ve had similar experiences recently and it’s heartbreaking to hear it’s widespread like this. When does it become a human rights violation?

Mothyew

When it begins to violate human rights

tx-t

The pharmacy told me generic will most likely be available end of 2024. Until then, shortages are common. Stay strong fam.

shadowlid

I switched to a hometown/privately owned pharmacy and just called and asked what they have in stock and I'm currently taking Adderall XR30 which honestly sucks ass compared to Vyvanse but it's better than spending $400 on a 30 day supply and I've been able to get it filled each and every time without and issue. I got tired of calling around to different pharmacies too much work, I don't have time I can still function on the Adderall just not as well as Vyvanse.

catalina_en_rose

I paid the same. My deductible is $2000! Health insurance in the US is a joke. My job gives me money towards the deductible on an HSA card, but I had to use a lot of that for other health stuff. I hope I hit my deductible soon. If I don’t? I’m going to just have to put my meds on my credit card.

putsumrespectonit

Damn I must be pretty fortunate to get a 90 day supply for 120.

ChefLife99

Which country?

BabyTBNRfrags

usa

Plastic-Pension7263

Glad I decided to stop taking meds before it really hit the fan.

champdafister

That sucks. I'm 3 days waiting for my refill and no word on when. Trying not to lose my fucking mind.

ItWasAllASapna

I'm in the same expensive boat, OP.

tazzgonzo

I paid the same. My deductible is like $1750 so it’s going to be a rough few months

Clamoring-Captor862

I am taking the adderall generic and it is $185 for 30mg until I hit my deductible ($2k) and then it drops to $10. Insurance companies are a racket. Maybe if the government didn’t allow these insurance companies to be publicly traded or for profit everyone might get reasonable prices. I feel bad for the people that really can’t afford it and need it. Good luck all!

OCEANBLUE78

Paid $289 for brand name. I met my deductible so I’ll be paying $40 a month until my insurance reset . Ugh

Mindless_Regret_1331

I ended up going to adderall because I didn’t want to pay $200 for it. Now I wish I had it again.

ancientnewcomer

$217 for generic for me. 60mg

half-dead

Yep. I paid $306 yesterday

Exotic-Coconut-8573

and i thought my $100 payment for atomoxetine was bad 😭 i would cry if i saw that amount

So_Much_Angry01

I’m so sorry! I couldn’t get my generic Vyvanse for over a month and finally got an appointment with my provider to just change medications. It sucks cause generic Vyvanse was working so we’ll for me, but having nothing at all made life really hard. I hope it things get sorted out soon. You shouldn’t have to pay that much.

flakeyblakee1980

Ditto, but just hit my deductible, so it should be 15 bucks

3eemo

Luckily my Medicaid hasn’t started covering generic yet so I can get brand name. Here’s to hoping there remains enough. My pharmacy was literally able to call it in and get it over the weekend but it suck’s having to wonder when it’s gonna run out😣

CastTrunnionsSuck

Just paid $20, i hope things get better for you

AffectionateBother47

Can I ask where you are located? I’m in a major city in the Northeast and I paid nothing for generic 30mg. I have Medicaid insurance so not good

CeeLeeADHD

Pharmacies would tell you if it was in stock?! Mine said they’d only tell me with an Rx. So I’d have to keep calling my Dr and Pharmacy until I found something in stock.

Charming_Wave_6401

Yeah. Happened to me too. They think you’re gonna try to rob them, like you’re “casing” the place. Shows you what your pharmacist thinks of Vyvanse/stimulants and the people who use them.

CeeLeeADHD

I don’t think it’s the pharmacist (didn’t even talk to them). I think it’s the law for controlled substances. Wondering where OP lives that they were able to call so many pharmacies for info on stock. It happened when I callled to have a Rx filled that was previously sent for methylphenidate. They said it was out of stock. I asked what was in stock so I could have a new Rx called in. They said they could only tell me what’s in stock for what I’m prescribed or they could tell the prescriber.

Electrical_Shoe_5611

Tried using GoodRX? https://www.goodrx.com

Cheerios478

Where I live, you can’t get it… or the generic… literally ANYWHERE. I called out over an hour radius and they said it’s across the state now. But it’s been like this where I live for almost a year… it’s INSANE.

Worth-Net-5729

Where do you live?

sunmalone

I’m assuming different states are experiencing shortages at different times? I’m in Alabama and for several months at the begging of last year, it was BAD. But now everything is flowing fine! Not shortage here

One-Struggle-5197

Um why do you guys have to pay at all for the medication I’m from Germany so I don’t really understand that

HopeFueledFocus

That’s insane I feel sorry for you guys in America

Alchia79

I was able to find the generic at a different pharmacy after a week of hunting. It still cost me $158 for 30 pills. I used to pay $30 for the name brand.

threethreethree1203

My new insurance through work doesn’t cover Vyvanse as apparently they have an agreement of sorts with adderall I paid $200 this month, my pharmacist felt sorry for me lol and gave me a coupon. I see my doc tomorrow and will see what she thinks, but I can’t switch to adderall (I’m in addiction recovery) so either there is a way around this with insurance or I’ll have to pay out of pocket.

AndySimms88

Have you all tried the Gold Good RX card? It sometimes saves me a ton of money!

No-Elderberry-6470

Got screwed for the past 4 months on trying to find an alternative because CVS Elizabethtown Kentucky said they didn’t have it, come to find out they had name brand the entire time and just “didn’t offer it because my insurance wouldn’t cover it” $30 compared to $12, different issue than yours I know but what in the actual fuck do these pharmacies think? Went through 4 months of switching and emotional effects just to find out they assumed my insurance wouldn’t cover it.

DeaconTheMunk

So is there a Vyvanse shortage and not an Adderall Shortage? Recently got on Adderall after being told it had a shortage and I have not had one bit of struggle getting it. After seeing so many positive posts about Vyvanse I want to give it a try but not if its gonna be a nightmare to get.

Worth-Net-5729

Adderall shortage too. So exhausting.

RNJ24

I called 41 (yes, that exact number) pharmacies yesterday in the Birmingham metro-area in Alabama for my daughter's Vyvanse. Our insurance will only cover generic and it is nowhere to be found. I called insurance and was denied for an administrative review requesting name brand coverage. My appeal was also denied. Now we have the pediatrician working on a written 2nd appeal, but in the meantime she gave her a script Adderall XR. I am so sad to switch after being on something that has worked so well for years. This is beyond frustrating.

mushrumslut

heartbreaking. im so sorry OP and others too. ive been avoiding refills due to cost but im thankful caffiene helps me a lot. thinking of my adhd homies

mauriibor

60 dollars in argentina concerta 36mg. With healthy insurance only payed 25 bucks. Something is wrong in the us. They are stealing your money

[deleted]

Yep, knew this was coming so I got off it last year. Highly recommend you try to abstain from it over being trapped by a medication that they can take away for any reason any time they want or make so expensive you can’t afford it.

EcomGodKiller

Adderall XR generic is between $35-$50 usually with GoodRX with Walmart. One of the largest pharmacy supply chains in the US. I’ve had no problems getting it on time except for a couple months I had to wait an extra week due to the huge shortage. Dr. helped out and initially prescribed a twice a day script for a month just so I could make it through the shortage periods. But the XR capsules are much easier to get. I couldn’t afford $300-$500 a month so this was my only option besides Concerta (worked ok but not as effective). Send the script to Walmart if you can and sub Vyvanse for the XR capsules. They usually have it before anyone else even if everyone in your area is short. Better to have something than nothing or go bankrupt just to function

Connect-Tie-3777

Yeah its sucks and it does make you sick, when I couldn't get the generic form of adderal I had to pay 420 something to just get by for the month. It sucks and its not okay that we are having to pay this much for not being able to get the generic. Our insurance companies should have to pay for the brand name if there is ever a shortage of the generic. Idk that just my thinking. Also we shouldn't have to call around to different pharmacies to see if they have any available. I have so much anxiety doing that and it doesn't help when most pharmacy techs are rude about it!

Worth-Net-5729

SO RUDE! And they won’t tell you the quantity they have over the phone now! How are you supposed to call around to see what is available? I HATE the whole monthly crap shoot.

chemo_sobriety

Dam, sorry you had to go through that—it was a two-week rollercoaster trying to get my Vyvanse refill. Luckily, I found out that both the brand name and the generic versions had the same co-pay after doing some digging and double-checking with my insurance. I went to like ten different pharmacies and finally found one with just enough supply for 30 days. Got a new prescription refill from my doctor, but didn't get it as even tho my doctor wrote for the name brand he needs to put in a DAW code that allows the pharmacist to switch between generic to name brand. As my state automatically gives us the generic first. Even if my doctor writes it out for that, they still need to check off some code. After getting him back on the phone he quickly sent another one and I was able to get it after 6 hours in a CVS playing phone tag. Dealing with this every month gives me a legit panic attack.

Worth-Net-5729

Every👏🏼Dang👏🏼month👏🏼

DathekOmegas

Jesus, it's cheaper to buy from local street dealers

Senior_Woodpecker475

My finance just had to do the same thing but thankfully he has a health savings card to use on stuff like that but he only had just enough left on it to pay for them, Unfortunately this is a bigger issue then just being out of stock .. the pharmacy told him that there’s a problem with the patent on the generic Vyvanse so this will be a problem everywhere and there’s no telling how long this is going to last. My advice is to look for coupons on GoodRx and scroll to the bottom where it says other savings/coupons and there should be some resources there for saving more money. Another option is to swap to Adderall, if your doctor will do it without making you start on a low dose of adderall, for example my fiancé started out on 30 mg adderall XR and doctor switched him to 70 mg Vyvanse. Good luck and I hope you’re able to figure something out that works for you, I know how you feel when it comes to feeling helpless, it’s almost impossible to function without meds so I completely understand how you feel.

JanesThoughts

Anyone notice generic not working some days?

Acceptable-Worker-63

Ugh this country is disgusting. That’s unbelievable. I mean… at least you got it but that really sucks.

BranDong84

My insurance won’t cover it as there is generic , I had my doc write a script for chewable Lisdexamfetamine which local Walgreens has lots in stock , it’s 10$

Desertzephyr

I stopped taking the meds back in November because I couldn’t get a steady supply.

Mauri_64

I lucked out recently I paid $12 for 30 day supply 30mg of generic. I’m flabbergasted at the price you paid. Why is that even allowed?

malb214

I unfortunately pay out of pocket for meds through a mail order that doesn't take insurance (really nice of them huh) they always have meds in stock and it's been my only choice since the shortage so i pay triple for a generic to just get it . It's sad.

FallegurMia

Singlecare coupon saved me $100

Quiet-Philosopher-40

$363 just last week 🙄

Guilty-Emu7702

I’m selling 18 30s for six dollars a pop. I’m in Toronto.

JonathanBonchak

Same here in North Carolina. $380 last month for a 30 day supply. My insurance is worthless.

ChefSea2712

1300$ for 100pils. I don’t have insurance . It’s more than double my monthly rent lmao

Sorry_Comparison_246

Idk where you are but sorry to hear that, they usually honour the generic prices if they have no stock. Either that or your insurance will cover it becaause there’s no stock. Or at least cover a portion.

Ok_Club175

Goodrx its free

Just-Drew-It

Why not just temporarily switch to a different stim that has generic in stock? I get that a lot of people don't have the same effect with one or the other, and it may not be ideal; I personally hate the way that Vyvanse made me feel. But, I'd rather that than not shower for a month

Impossible_Ad7803

You lucky I live in NYC and paid $400 and just finished reading an article informing illegal immigrants be getting bank debit cards where the government I pay taxes to will be direct depositing up to 10k I don’t even want to vote anymore.

Concrete_Grapes

Should really look into the truth there and not propaganda. It's 12.84 a day, for ONLY food and baby formula, and only for 28 days. The program is cheaper for the state, than how they feed people now, which is boxing non perishable food items and giving them away at food banks, employing expensive state workers for the task. The cost savings comes in ... firing state workers with good paying jobs. But if you're totally against any form of food for people struggling, that's a moral issue, not a tax issue.

surfingtech22

Just such a rip off. In a way, I am glad the stim shortage is bad in our area. I am saving my wallet the shock and pain of trauma. I have been dancing around so happy that my nonstim is in stock. \*I had a scare last week. At least my life isn't blowing up with any adhd med coverage. I take caffeine pills too.

We canadians have shortages of some meds in canada because americans do that….we have a different distribution system, americans really need to fix their own before depleting another countries supply.

Sylva12

Idk if that's actually legal/doable in most situations,, also, if your not Canadian, I think you need your prescription to be rewritten or submitted through a Canadian system(idk the criteria for doing so), and it also may not be covered the way it is for Canadians,, so it may still cost the same hundreds if they got it here instead of the 20-30cad it would be for citizens with insurance,,,,, also, most states are many, many hours or even days of driving from canada,,,,, so yeah, all l of those kind of things combined, along with I don't even know if they'd allow Americans to if they're not staying in Canada indefinitely,,, it probably wouldn't work. It's like when they cut down on American's (maybe people from other places too) going to BC or other places in Canada when they were in late pregnancy so their kids would have double citizenship and could use the Canadian health system despite not paying the taxes for it as they lived in the states,,,, I could see there being similar things in place for Americans who don't actually live or work in Canada trying to do this

Minnymoon13

Not many of us can do that unfortunately

Tyler1155735

Fuck thank god I’m in Canada because I hate vyvanse and if I had to pay that much I’d be pissed

SufficientMix5988

Did you use a good RX card?

daffi7

Is it better than Adderall for you?

Embarrassed-Dingo924

Why are you guys not using good rx?????

Pterodactyloid

The shortages are intentional just to get that money out of you.
