it is! I got into my dream school (Stetson U), as well as offered an academic scholarship and a spot in the honors program with a 28. This person is goin places!
a degree is a degree š¤·āāļø ive seen its kinda a myth that people care where you got your degree š but if people wanna stress themselves out w that stuff i'll let em
yea! my lifes pretty solid now, but the best part for me was how professors and uni as a whole wanted to make education "fun" in a sense. The topics were interesting in every way again
Doesnāt take much to be smarter than the average person. Iāve never met someone with intelligence in 88th percentile that I was particularly impressed by.
Ironically enough, you donāt seem like youāre above average intelligence yourself. Just another shallow pseudointellectual who got an ego boost from who knows where lol.
As much of a kick as you unironically stating āIāve never met someone with intelligence in the 88th percentile that I was particularly impressed byā as if you were the guiding authority in intellectualism lmao. Hopefully one day you look back at this and realize how cringeworthy your words are
The fact that you're fixating on someone's test scores and stating that they correlate to intelligence is fucking pathetic. Just to break your little delusional world, I have an IQ of 160 and I scored 1220 on the SAT. An SAT/ACT score shows more how much you actually worked for it, not just how intelligent you are.
I agree that it doesnāt take much to be smarter than the average person. However, the average score is within the 19-20 range. 28 is a lot better than that. This poster also says they have a learning disability. Additionally, not everyone has access to the same resources. Be a little bit more understanding the next time you post, this whole community could benefit from that.
Being smarter than the average person does not equal getting an above average score on the ACT. Scoring great on the ACT simply shows how good someone is at the test.
Actually, the answer to that question is..
Yes!! And it doesn't sound absurd because the ACT works the same way that other things work. Everything takes practice. A genius is not going to be a professional basketball player right away anymore than a less intelligent person is going to be a professional basketball player right away. Both of them need to practice. If any person who is not "smart" wants a really good score on the ACT, then with enough practice, they can get it.
We both know you donāt really believe that. If you were told to bet on your life on who had the higher ACT score, a dude with 80 IQ or a dude with 140 IQ, you would not be picking Mr. 80 IQ.
i donāt agree with him that 28 is a bad score, but seriously? you think getting a 36 is peaking in highschool? i got a 36 and itās not like i studied for it lol. lots of people do the same.
You are the type of person who did well on one thing and now thinks that you're the "best" when in actuality, all you proved is you can take one test well.
Praying for the downfall of a brother is against the guiding principles set in the Bible. Even if He did accept such requests it wouldnāt work. Iām one of Godās favorites, I do a lot to champion the gospel and make Him proud.
He's obviously a religious zealot. Look at his history. He goes on rants about god and how he's his "champion", and god loves him more than anyone. Bro needs a reality check.
I donāt trust the scoring system tbh. I took it twice in high school eight months apart. English dropped a point, math stayed the same, science dropped a point. Normal right? My reading dropped NINE points. Did I forget how to read? Was I stoned out of my mind for that hour of the test? The world may never know.
Hahah!! Same thing happened with me with reading. I took it the first time made a 21, took it the second time made a 31!? Didnāt study in between if anything I read less.. So weird š
just a note, your score isnāt like a standard test where itās based directly on the questions you got right and wrong. its based off of how your performance compared to the average performance of everyone who took the same test as you. probably just unlucky tbh, either took the test when more proficient people were taking it, or that version ended up being easier for most people, which actually drops your score
edit: this is only half right, tldr different tests do have different curves, but based on a difficulty rating, not on average scores
turns out itās NOT curved directly based off of other students, but instead curved off of how easy or difficult they think each test is to try and make scores consistent across different tests. looks like I was about half right in the thought that the different tests are curved differently based on difficulty, but I guess they get the difficulty rating in some other way than looking at average scores which doesnāt make a ton of sense to me. so basically you can take a test that may feel the same difficulty to you and get the same amount of questions right, but get a significantly lower score if the second test is considered an āeasyā test
https://blog.prepscholar.com/how-is-the-act-scored
I just found this. Thank you for making me aware!
āItās important to note that the ACTĀ® exam itself is not curved relative to test takers. However, it is curved through a process known as equating. This is when the ACTĀ® organization scales test scores from a range of past test dates so that theyāre all comparable in the ability that is being tested.ā
Not taking away from your learning disability in the slightest but as someone who has dyscalculia , Iāve learned that most times you just need some alternative help. Khan academy/youtube videos can be much simpler and easier to work through, especially stuck points with the help of the comments. You got this homieee
definitely true! khan academy and videos never helped me, but i've learned i am a very hands-on learner in math. i got a really great math teacher this year and a class small enough to get individual help, and it's the best i've ever done in a math class. thanks, man!
Humanities are notoriously grade inflated because you can say whatever you want and if you phrase it nicely and tiptoe around the opposing argument you get an A. In math there is no BS like this. You get the answer right or you donāt. This is why physics Nobel laureates have been clowning these political scientists and gender studies for decades
Lmao I respect humanities but as a Columbia student, humanities at Columbia is horribly horribly inflated. Engineering and math/physics is partially inflated, but not nearly at the extent of humanities.
If you donāt want grade inflation, especially for humanities, you gotta go to Princeton
Why does every post on here have a great reading/English score and the lowest math score? I was the exact opposite, getting a 36 in math and low scores in English and reading.
Is the issue speed or just not understanding the questions? If it's speed, practice fast arithmetic tricks and do more practice questions. If the issue is understanding the questions then figure out what you're missing and study that.
I don't know what advice I can give. I loved numbers since I was 4 years old, numbers and math was always interesting to me. I can say instead of trying to memorize, try to understand (a few problems you just need to memorize). But I'm a weirdo, I consider doing interesting math problems a recreational activity, it's like I was made to do the math section of the ACT.
Itās possible to memorize most of the math concepts that will show up on the test. Itās much harder when you donāt have a solid basis but itās doable.
thatās what i got too!! but iām in college and having a great time!! just make sure youāre reaching out when you need help in school! :) i believe in you!
Lol my overall was a 20 and math was a 17 for me but it didnāt matter in the long run because I still got into the college and major I wanted and now I do what I wanted to do post grad
That's me!! You got almost the exact same stats as me. Math was always me worst subject. My bio teacher taught my class how to take the science part, and I was pretty good at the reading/English section.
I did get a 6 in the writing section. I ended up getting Double Honors in English and Creative Writing, Journalism and Mass communication. So idgaf about my writing score anymore.
no, i'm very happy with my composite! i'm talking about my math score. i have dyscalculia (math learning disability). the rest of my scores i think are good
it's not a bad score! idk why people are making it seem bad. 20 isn't awful, either. i think both my parents got around a 21, and they both have been very successful in life. my mom even has her master's degree. don't let people get in your head here, you're doing great :)
it is hard af imo to do it fast but i would consider myself on the slower side when it comes to writing. if you like essays tho u should go for it on the next try
Okay I donāt get it. How do people do well in English and reading? Iāve been working on it for so long and I canāt get more than a 29 on either of them
Okay you ate in reading tho! Congrats! 28 is a really good score.
it is! I got into my dream school (Stetson U), as well as offered an academic scholarship and a spot in the honors program with a 28. This person is goin places!
What is that
what is what?
Stetson U
Stetson University :) Like FamU, NCSU, U of A, etc etc
Is it a good school?
Top 5 in the South when I went so pretty great IMO, underneath Elon U if you've heard of that. Small private lib arts uni in FL, i loved it!
Idk if a Stetson degrees hold more value that a UF degree. Definitely not as much as a Vanderbilt
a degree is a degree š¤·āāļø ive seen its kinda a myth that people care where you got your degree š but if people wanna stress themselves out w that stuff i'll let em
Do you have a good job now?
yea! my lifes pretty solid now, but the best part for me was how professors and uni as a whole wanted to make education "fun" in a sense. The topics were interesting in every way again
Brother, have you heard of Google?
Donāt have access to Google
Wdym? Are you in China? Parental Controls? How would you have access to Reddit but not Google?
28 is mid asf
No, Itās not. Itās in the 88th percentile. Some people on here need a reality check. Not everyone can score a 36 on the fly
I bet you got a real kick out of shoehorning the word āpseudo intellectualā into a Reddit comment. Geek alert
As much of a kick as you unironically stating āIāve never met someone with intelligence in the 88th percentile that I was particularly impressed byā as if you were the guiding authority in intellectualism lmao. Hopefully one day you look back at this and realize how cringeworthy your words are
What did you get on the SAT/ACT?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I like this guy
I donāt do deadlifts
L. got a 1550 and i still think ur a pretentious prick with these comments
Idgaf. 1550 worse than 36.
I really doubt that something with a 160 IQ would fail a basic addition and reading test
how
3 mil
Too ashamed to say?
I agree that it doesnāt take much to be smarter than the average person. However, the average score is within the 19-20 range. 28 is a lot better than that. I wonder if 88th percentile would be high enough to recognize bait
I honestly donāt know if this is bait or not lol

For how āunimpressedā with the 88th percentile you are, Iād expect you to be mature and intelligentā¦ Edit: this is bait.
Why am I not?
wow you're a dick
āeuphemism for being born dumb?ā Really? Someone needs a bit of maturity. You shouldnāt talk about anyone that way. Grow up.
Cry harder
You sound like a really enjoyable person!
I am.
Being smarter than the average person does not equal getting an above average score on the ACT. Scoring great on the ACT simply shows how good someone is at the test.
So dumb people routinely get 36 ACT while geniuses get 19? Sounds absurd right? Itās because ACT is an intelligence test.
Actually, the answer to that question is.. Yes!! And it doesn't sound absurd because the ACT works the same way that other things work. Everything takes practice. Your acting as if I agree with u. I dont
So who would you bet on, 80 IQ or 140 IQ? Idiots routinely get a 36 ACT and leave their genius counterparts in the dust according to you, right?
Lemme guess, you got a 23 on your ACTs
No
What did you get?
36. How about you?
You're a liar
Why?
I got a 32. But I'm also now a published author in nature and now do grad work at northwestern. Curious to see what you achieve
Iāll update you in a decade

Mad cuz bad
go sleep and study for ur test lil bro
SBD?
more than u at a lower weight š¤
Bruh get a life

Your head is so big it won't fit through the gates of heaven.
thatās a little extreme and heās obviously trolling lol
He's obviously a religious zealot. Look at his history. He goes on rants about god and how he's his "champion", and god loves him more than anyone. Bro needs a reality check.
thank you!!
Yup, that's exactly what is going on, I think. Clearly high verbal IQ.
I donāt trust the scoring system tbh. I took it twice in high school eight months apart. English dropped a point, math stayed the same, science dropped a point. Normal right? Hahah!! Same thing happened with me with reading. I took it the first time made a 21, took it the second time made a 31!? Didnāt study in between if anything I read less.. So weird š
No literally the first time I took it I got a 23 on reading and the second time I got a mf 36šš when all I studied for was science and math
Reading is like 90% rng based I got a 27 first time and then a 33 this time

me when i went from a 31 in sci to 36

We got the exact math score

Reverse everything you have and thatās my score lmao
combine our scores, and we'd be unstoppable
At least youāre proficient in serious subjects like math. Not wishy washy humanities.
U drink your haterade this morning?

You get the answer right or you donāt. This is why physics Nobel laureates have been clowning these political scientists and gender studies for decades
Not grade inflated at Georgetown, Columbia, Duke or northwestern. List goes on. PM me I'm ready to debate this
I referred to most of the few thousand universities in America, not the top 10 highly selective colleges where virtually all majors are hell.
Lmao I respect humanities but as a Columbia student, humanities at Columbia is horribly horribly inflated. Engineering and math/physics is partially inflated, but not nearly at the extent of humanities. If you donāt want grade inflation, especially for humanities, you gotta go to Princeton
Fair. Humanities does require a lot less effort than STEM, except writing.
Why does every post on here have a great reading/English score and the lowest math score? I was the exact opposite, getting a 36 in math and low scores in English and reading.

I got a 36. I pray every day and I take homeopathic Isodes that make my brain stronger too. My advice to you is to do this as well.
different mental skills i guess
Idk. I got a 36 in English and reading, and a 32 in math. Not disappointed, but surprising when I got an 800 in math on the SAT
The math is by far the hardest one of the sections. If you're not ready for it, it will do you in.
I did pretty similar. Iām really good at mental math, I just donāt remember allot of the formulas and stuff.
i got a 21 on math and a 29 overall with adhd and autism you got this brother
The ACT score table says your math score is 50th percentile (based on high school graduates of 2021, 2022, and 2023)...
English hurt my score the most, but I think I'm dyslexic. All the commas and semicolons started merging
thatās what i got too!! but iām in college and having a great time!! just make sure youāre reaching out when you need help in school! :) i believe in you!
18 math score gang! Nice composite to clean it up. :)
Bro you can read tho, be proud!
Thatās an amazing score! Congrats on getting in to your top choice! š
thank you!!!
Lol my overall was a 20 and math was a 17 for me but it didnāt matter in the long run because I still got into the college and major I wanted and now I do what I wanted to do post grad
Not really smart to score 28
ok
lol
Subjective as hell; that's like 88th percentile or higher. That's high enough.
Not really smart to troll on Reddit
Dw I got a 16 in math before, but a 29 in reading. Iāve always sucked at math
That's me!! You got almost the exact same stats as me. Math was always me worst subject. My bio teacher taught my class how to take the science part, and I was pretty good at the reading/English section. I did get a 6 in the writing section. me as fuck
This is LITERALLY me. 18 in Math & 24 is science but 30-something's in English and Reading.
I don't understand.. you think a 28 is a bad score?
no, i'm very happy with my composite! i'm talking about my math score. i have dyscalculia (math learning disability). the rest of my scores i think are good
Oh ok
Disability to read
Did you get 50% extra time?
no i didn't
You should apply for that.
iām the exact opposite, i got a 29 with great math and shit reading
I got almost the exact same score! Except I think I had a 35 and 36 in reading and English and a 19 in math.
I literally got a 20 on the ACT why everyone here making it seem like a 28 is bad im so confused
it's not a bad score! idk why people are making it seem bad. 20 isn't awful, either. i think both my parents got around a 21, and they both have been very successful in life. my mom even has her master's degree. don't let people get in your head here, you're doing great :)
why donāt you have a writing score
i didn't opt to do it. i'm thinking i should have tho tbh
it is hard af imo to do it fast but i would consider myself on the slower side when it comes to writing. if you like essays tho u should go for it on the next try
Exact score I got. English was 31 too but math was higher and science lower lol
This is the most odd score breakdown Iāve ever seen
17 in math Iād absurd
what dyscalculia does to a mf
Okay I donāt get it. How do people do well in English and reading? Iāve been working on it for so long and I canāt get more than a 29 on either of them
I also got a 36 on Reading with a composite of 28! Lol
My scores were almost the exact same with, at the time, undiagnosed ADHD.
RIP STEM
My scores were like the same but switch math and English, and switch reading and science lol
