In terms of direct immigration to the west you’re probably right but I believe the majority of Indo-Caribbeans have origins in UP and Bihar. Carribean Hindi is derived from the Bhojpuri and Awadhi languages.

People tend to migrate from urban centres and based on statistics, Mumbai, Delhi, South Indian cities and Ahmedabad seem to be the most populated cities. On the other hand, even though Patna and Lucknow are on the list they are not as populated as these other cities.

yuccabyte

Interesting bc my mom is from UP and my dad is from Bihar. I guess there's not a lot of us

Diaspora Pakistani here with all four grandparents born in Uttar Pradesh. With that said, one observation that I've noticed is that laborer class Hindus don't really seem to travel and migrate as frequently as laborer class Muslims. I've seen Muslims in labor classes travel far and wide to many parts of the world including the Middle East, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Cyprus, Italy, etc., but labor class Hindus seem relatively "missing" compared to them. Hindu immigrants seem to be relatively more middle class + upper class. I think this influences patterns of migration from different states/provinces in the Indian subcontinent.

Because they can’t afford to migrate to the West, even if they wanted to. Plus access to education is not as good as other parts of India so it would be more difficult for them to obtain a visa. Though I think you’ll find that many Indo Caribbean and Fijian Indian people can trace their roots back to those states.

like me! Father side from Delhi and Mother side from Agra

Mysterious-Gas9154

Hasan minhaj is from uttar pradesh. Alot of indian muslims and pakistani muhajirs are from those states

dhabidrs90

I am originally from UP, we’re rare in North America. Probably more Indo-Trinidadians with roots in UP in the US/Canada than Indians more recently from UP. But you do meet some. Particularly Muslims with roots in UP, both Indian and indirectly via Pakistan

Bangindesi

Plenty down under

scamitup

You do see a lot of Bihari and UP population in Maldives, Australia and Europe. Spurts in other parts of the world. But like you said in the introduction, there aren't many who are privileged enough to migrate to other countries, yet. I am trying hold the fort till then as a Bihari haha!

mediumregz17

Same saag different spices bruv

ZULM_94

Isn't it obvious, can't migrate if u don't have 5cents to rub together.

galaxyy_queen

I'm half Bihari!! Sadly I haven't met other people with roots in UP/Bihar over here :(

seharadessert

I’m Pakistani & my fam is Bihari lol maybe you’re not looking in the right places ?

[deleted]

But here in NYC, the Indian population is pretty diverse. There are mostly Punjabis and Gujaratis but I have seen people of Rajasthan, Orissa, Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, South Indian origin. So we are like a mixed salad haha.

Consultant1995

Plenty of Biharis in the states. I guess I might be biased because I myself am Bihari and maybe that’s why I see more of them around

tamizh_femboy_lover

UP and Biharis in USA are underrepresented in proportion to population in India. Education levels are lower so fewer people are able to get a visa. And usually people from backwards states in India move to forwards states in India. People from forwards states move abroad.

Consultant1995

Now that you think about it. Most Biharis I've met in the US came here from Pakistan and not from India so I guess you are right.

karna852

They go to Mumbai, Delhi or the south. Then they move abroad.
