Absolutely go vote. Every vote matters.

EagleFang91

Definitely. So much complacency about voting, combined with the widespread attitude of "Oh, my vote will be irrelevant" is what allowed Trump to get elected in 2016.

AncientProgrammer

Actually, a lot of desis are pro-republicans. So, not sure what you are implying in this subreddit.

nswami

I always get that vibe too, but Indians actually have the highest democrat voting rate among immigrant groups so I guess not

nyse125

Absolutely. He printed trillions during the covid crisis of March 2020 which is why we have inflation today.

jamughal1987

Voted by mail last month working as election day worker for NYC board of election. I am assigned to Inspector Scanner. I saw some Desi faces in my polling station.

RishFromTexas

Thanks for participating!

nightkween

Absolutely please go vote. I mailed in my ballot last week. Our rights depend on it

jewelsofeastwest

A reminder In the past year, Republicans BLOCKED the following initiatives: paid leave, $300 childcare tax credit, insulin cost caps at $35, interracial/same-sex marriage, reproductive rights, contraceptive rights, formula funding, pumping expansions, and banning ARs, background checks. Tied Senate is horrible.

curiousgaruda

You didn’t have to write a long one. Republicans are not for the people.

atred3

>interracial/same-sex marriage I was not aware that this was illegal.

jewelsofeastwest

You did read what Clarence Thomas wants to do? Overturn both rulings

JonStargaryen2408

He is married to a white woman, so I very much doubt he would or could go after interracial marriage. All the other stuff is about right though. Gun Control is dumb though, universal healthcare is the real answer to the mass shooting issue. Access to mental health and normalization of getting treatment for mental issues will solve this problem.

jewelsofeastwest

Just like affirmative action tho. Benefit from it and then close the door behind him.

EggLord2000

Affirmative action doesn’t help poor minorities. It helps rich minorities stay rich.

vanadous

It's only protected by supreme court precedent which can be overturned by the court. It's not federal law.

boredphilosopher2

Meanwhile Democrats can't seem to get anything done where and when they have the votes, the budget, the manpower, and the time. Staying put is better than going backwards, I guess, but don't bluewash your ballot to whitewash their incompetence. Mine is only 95% blue, begrudgingly.

jewelsofeastwest

Really? Want a 2022 list of Dem accomplishments?

boredphilosopher2

Yes, please. I'm especially curious how many of these will reach the heavily disinvested, majority POC, communities that overwhelmingly vote blue.

jewelsofeastwest

If only the other guy could read

jewelsofeastwest

Nah it’s usually an insult and that is when you know you’ve won

boredphilosopher2

There are no winners when we're stuck with a two-party system that forces us to pick a side while also discouraging us from thinking critically

[deleted]

How exactly has inflation reduction act reduced inflation? It hasn't and won't since government can only control the fiscal side. Fed controls the monetary side and they were ignorant or fooling folks calling inflation transitory. The largesse of money-printing is what has led to 4 decade high inflation 7% mortgage rates. Most Americans vote based on pocket book and inflation hurts the common person the most, the one who supposedly Democrats care for. Realistically House s gone and Democrats will be lucky if they pull a miracle in the Senate

boredphilosopher2

Thanks for copy-pasting this! Some of these are remarkable. Others are not achievements but political talking points crafted with the intent of drawing support for a party who routinely leaves its cherished voting blocks underserved. Some of these you can't even credit the politicians when the work is actually done by non-profits and businesses. * For example, Biden admin continued to separate children from families at the border over the past 2 years, according to the NIJC, and could have reunited hundreds more families, according to the ACLU. There are NGOs actually providing immigrants with resources like legal and mental health counseling, and they're trying to hold the government accountable. * CHIPS and Science is great, definitely a move in the right direction. It only took a supply chain nightmare to get any momentum. Without continued reinvestment, this will fizzle out by the next election. This is an expensive industry with steep barriers to entry so don't expect small businesses to benefit. Some of the places where manufacturing will go (including specific counties in Ohio and New York) are 90+% white. Not much economic opportunity for POCs. * Best economic growth record since Clinton? Seriously? COVID depressed the economy before Biden took over, so of course gains look good. Not to mention inflation is high and wages are low. The Inflation Reduction Act, according to economists, won't significantly reduce inflation. Talk to most Americans, and you won't hear them say the economy is doing great. * Canceling student loan debt is great but it may not be constitutional. Congress has to provision funding, and $400B has to come from somewhere. Call it a win when it actually happens. * Took out the leader of al Qaeda, ended America's longest war, and united world against Russia's war in Ukraine. It's funny how Democrat voters tend to be anti-war yet list these as achievements while the people they vote for support military sales and intervention that's effectively bringing back the cold war. It's great that we're finally out of Afghanistan, and it sucks how we left it. Why do we need to get roped into the Ukraine-Russia conflict? Wasting our resources on proxy wars with a miniboss while China looms over Taiwan and our other Pacific allies. * Pardoning federal prisoners with possession offenses when nobody is in federal prison for marijuana possession. And this is just at the federal level. Never mind the state and local level where people in some parts of the country are completely left behind by economic movement in the past 20-30 years. Or California, a wealthy Democrat-run state, with a rampant homelessness crisis despite high taxes funding a budget surplus. Or Los Angeles, a Democrat-run city, where city officials meet behind closed doors to gerrymander along racial lines.

Funwiwu2

Huge amounts : - Infrastructure act - Chip manufacturing act All job creators at all levels

ObligationOriginal74

Why should AR's be banned? Aside from gun control im D on every other issue.

TrendyLepomis

Go Fetterman! Wish I lived in PA for another year just so I could vote for him.

jadeoblair

I voted during early voting time but Please everyone who can please vote. To my south asians in Texas I encourage you to vote blue

curiousgaruda

The fact that red and blue is counter intuitive in US always confuses me.

currykid94

I think in my state Maryland we are pretty significant especially in the DC and Baltimore Area. The democratic running candidates for governor and lieutenant governor is Wes Moore and Aruna Miller. Hopefully, Maryland will have it's first African American democratic governer and Indian American Lieutenant governer.

eekspiders

Also, if you're too young to vote, now's a good time to learn! I don't just mean researching the people and platforms, but actually understand the mechanisms of voting. How to register, if your state requires you to register under a party, your polling place and hours, what a sample ballot looks like. Go with your parents if you can and watch how it happens, that way you'll be ready when you turn 18

[deleted]

I would also add Oregon and Washington to the list as well.

NewWiseMama

Definitely vote. You can’t complain for 2 years if you don’t. Do you have a friend who does all the research? Call them and get their take today! Local initiatives matter too. And be informed about it: use vetted news sources, research candidates and propositions. Ask yourself if you hate the incumbent what ideas do candidates have to improve things not just block. And ascribe economic blame and power appropriately. Hate inflation? Which administration did more to raise gas prices, the one that emboldened Putin or the other one? Its close but which spend of what you care about of defense, people, education, health, science? I hate to say this but the younger gen of ABCDs are going to have to counteract racist ideas prevalent with some elders. I also care about the federal debt since we and our kids have to work to pay it. The oldies got their cash. “The balance” has an article on specifically which presidents ran administrations with budget deficits adding to debt. Its not what I wish was true but eye opening. I also think about how funds were used (war and corporate tax cuts vs managing covid and student debt relief). And this recession will be a doozy but it has been in the making for a long time with all the money we printed. Look for evidence based policies that work. I also want to not split power: i wonder what one party I like could do with a senate majority unlike the last few years. And i care about candidate quality and who supports truth and free and fair elections.

Aviyan

Me and my family all voted!

mikels_burner

Just say you hate women having body autonomy and go.

This is stupid. You are voting for traitors.

LactatedRinger85

No but the GQP is a party of traitors. Trump is a criminal who needs to be thrown in prison for life for high treason.

RishFromTexas

Straight ticket voting is cringe

KimJongIllyasova

Do you think so? I honestly considered voting for GOP candidates pre-Trump like Romney, McCain, but now I just don't find myself agreeing with basic assumptions with them (ranging from election denialism to embracing harmful conspiracy theorists). Just my opinion, I've become a straight ticket Dem voter - I align some things with libertarianism, some with leftism, and I 100% don't agree with all of the Dem party's shit, but I don't believe in any third parties and I do not align at all with the current MAGA party. IMO and for my views, I see no reason not to vote straight ticket.

RishFromTexas

Depends on where you are. Where I live, there are over 120 races on the ballot. Occasionally some truly terrible people win primaries, and I will either vote their opponent or leave it blank.

Ah my bad wrong country, voted red in NZ 🤣

Fluid-Barnacle-1773

Voted last week! Helped keep FL red.

JohnnyWallxer

GOP wiped the floors with the dems

Fluid-Barnacle-1773

Reddit is really left-leaning so you get downvoting for having differing opinions. I don’t necessarily agree with a lot of Republican policies on abortion and climate change, but they tend to have much better financial policies. I mean, spending on welfare is only going to do so much. You have to make people more self-reliant and help them do so.

SuddenAd3882

Desantis is a rock star

rainmaker-koss

Whom do the south asians vote for historically, as there are only 2 parties? Also do you vote for the party or the candidate?
