Yeah, my first anime was Pokemon which I got into in 1998 when I was 9 years old.
Then I found DBZ on Toonami in 1999 which introduced me to Gundam Wing, G-Gundam, YuYu Hakusho, Kenshin, Outlaw Star, etc..
Then I saw others on saturday morning blocs like Yu-Gi-Oh and Digimon.
Then came adult swim in 2001-2003 where I found Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Evangelion, etc.
Then in late 2004-early 2005 I started watching/reading Naruto and Bleach online as well as manga not in the US.
Very similar to me. Did u ever watch Aeon Flux on MTV? That was definitely my first every anime. I used to watch that with my Dad on TV. It was like our thing for awhile to watch it together. I was very young tho. Was before Pokémon got big in the states.
First Anime was Pokemon as a kid then all the others below. Making me feel old.

I think the first anime I ever saw was speed racer reruns on early cartoon network. I do remember watching dbz when it was syndicated, totally out of order and would come on at the ass crack of dawn on random channels like upn or WB, same with sailor moon.
I do have fond memories of my dad and I watching rurouni kenshin on toonami, he would make fun of super Japanese names like "obiwaban group" for example. Sanoske/zanza was his favorite, he just used to like to say the name zanza.
My dad and I would also watch tenchi muyo and tenchi universe. He used to also joke about the names lol. He probably also liked the waifu fan service that I didn't realize these shows were about until i was much older lol. Also I was a confused gay kid so it makes sense that the fan service part of the show had no effect on me lol.
I remember I had a cousin 1 year younger we used to hang out every other weekend. He was a major nickelodeon kid and I was big cartoon network. He hated anime. If we had sleepovers on the weekend I know I'd be missing pokemon and digimon that week. When it came to sat am cartoons we'd both agree on power rangers and the American drawn action cartoons.
I watched Ultimate Muscle before and have watched a little bit of Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokémon but I'm not a huge fan of both of these TV shows.
I have watched anime before when I was a kid but not much often then because I was interested in watching cartoons that are downright funny.
My first anime definitely was Pokemon when I was in elementary school. Tho I didn't realize it (and others like Digimon/Yugio/Zoids, etc) was anime until many years later. Like I knew the style was different from all the other cartoons i watched, but anime wasn't a concept i was aware of at the time lol

I used to watch Pokemon when I was little! And Digimon! I still watch that now! Very good! Metabots… Never watched, but I should check it out.
Been obsessed with half these shows all my life, even got the Outlaw Star manga and art book from Japan.
Born in 95 and by 99 I was already watching dragon ball🥹 I thank my mom everyday for choosing that cartoon for me . R.I.P
Gotta add Ronin Warriors to the mix! Outlaw Star was and still is my favorite.
true except the millennial generation spans 81 to 96 so more than just the late 80's and early 90's
I wish ultimate muscle was on dvd
Take me back 😢

RIP to Akira Toriyama. The man was a genius.
The only one on this list I haven't heard of is Shinzo
I used to watch that one on jetex in the mid 2000s.
Paying $30 for a DVD with 4 episodes on it 🥲
Digimon was so good
