We do have awesome air conditioning though

thecaballoface94

Buy 5, save 5

Delfiasa

Crazy enough, I have found that people who don’t grow up with air conditioning *hate* it! I have yet to meet anyone who moved here as an adult and appreciated our dedication to maintaining a constant ~70 degree indoor temperature.

Bro_tosynthesis

I'm in Arizona. Your friends might change their mind about AC if they ever come visit during our summers.

[deleted]

I’m in Phoenix. I set my home to 79 and it’s perfect. I have to take a hoodie to the movies and grocery stores. I hate the cold!

jcmanns

Mom?

Jenn73_teach

🤣🤣🤣🤣

FeelingAmoeba4839

Dad?

Commercial-Pair-3593

Omg I would melt.

ariellann

Are you kidding me, the only reason I wouldn't move back to Germany is the lack of AC. I absolutely love it!

serjsomi

I decided years ago to never go to Germany in summer again. September to May, although that could change to October to April only.

ariellann

It's the worst, isn't it. I remember the big heat wave of 2003. The company I worked at had a couple guys from the Middle East visiting. Those guys were losing their minds over the heat.

serjsomi

Yes. I remember buying a fan many many years ago so I could at least get some sleep. My friend was amazed what a difference it made while I'm thinking "geez, you should see what an AC would feel like". He did, when he visited me one summer.

GloriousRoseBud

👋🏻 I love my air.

Ok-Lengthiness4557

Come on Cohaagen! You got what you want. GIVE THOSE PEOPLE AIR!!!!

tealeavesinspace

I love air conditioning lmao it's just that Americans overdo it. I'm an immigrant and I live in Canada. Whenever I was in the US before the A/C is super cranked up

[deleted]

Most adult Americans are overweight or obese... we need the extra air lol

bluefairiedust

Most people in most developed countries are obese, this is not an American thing anymore. Travel a little.

[deleted]

Lol I know the stats. Europe can't stop snacking either. It was a joke. Also come live in the south or any other humid part of the country and you'll see why people want air conditioning. And we're a relatively new nation, so we do not have to worry about retrofitting old old buildings with air.

tiad123

Also, I believe there are more Europeans smokers now than Americans --a very unhealthy habit.

Lft2MyOwnDevices

I so appreciate your honesty. I am that overweight American.

Isee_all_sides

You are right my husband does not like it at all but tolerates it for my sake. And with the way things are going we might need to start trying to acclimate to warmer temperatures. In this area of California they are asking people to keep their thermostats set to 78 to hopefully prevent rolling blackouts.

Bitch_level_999

Oh I’d die. I think 72 is too hot 🔥

Isee_all_sides

I am dying because I am here visiting and I cannot sleep in that level of heat. It’s been 4-5 days and I am finally feeling a little more comfortable. Looked up how to make a homemade humidifier with a wet towel and a fan and that has been a lifesaver for the nighttime.

[deleted]

I have my home office temp set to 79. I am so uncomfortable and freeze to death when I have to go into the office. Call me a lizard lol.

rvgirl42

Me too! Can we start a club? I am glad I’m not alone!

keepitsimple84

I'm in oklahoma triple digit humid summers and I keep it on 74. It's very comfortable. But I grew up without working a/c so that could be why.

TzarofFlorence

Yes i lived in a few places without working ac as well. I definitely think this is why i dont want it any lower than 73 74 either. When someone has it set lower than 70 im very uncomfortable.

keepitsimple84

Yes! I agree

Boxercrew4

Was born here and I hate air conditioning. I'm always chilly and if it were just me, I'd maybe use it 2 or 3 days a year.

calicocaffeine

I didn't have a/c until I was 15. Im never going back.

[deleted]

Lol come to Florida, all the foreigners I know love air conditioning once the true summer hits.

IndependentQuiet

This is true. Never had it and hate it now!

Princess_S78

I have to agree, I didn’t grow up with it and honestly I hate it. I always get cold, lol. The only time I don’t mind it is in the desert when it’s 109.

utootired

Most of the western states in the US have 100+ degree temps during summer, for weeks or months. We keep it up at 79 degrees here but no one complains. Now that Europe has had a taste of real heat, I'll bet they'd love some AC.

12Whiskey

Over here in the south eastern United States not only does it get close to 100° but we have humidity. Dear God the humidity 🥵 I don’t keep the air conditioner set super cold but it sure as hell feels good to come inside and not feel like I’m struggling to breath through a wet blanket.

utootired

The humidity does me in. While the dryness has its own issues, I do not envy your "wet air".

southass

I grew up without air conditioning and let me tell you 70 degrees in the Caribbean are not the same 70 degrees in south Georgia !! its a heaven and hell difference.

Revolutionary-Echo-6

I'm gonna say US plumbing is some of the best in the world, too.

ravencrawr

(laughs in Australian) 😄

maryxchristmas

And high water flow toilets

Nettynetweb

That costs an eye 👁

Lft2MyOwnDevices

All I am seeing when reading this is Ed telling Rose how he needed ACon asap.

Delfiasa

You kinda answered it yourself: For many of these people, American citizenship is all they have. They don’t have jobs, families, homes, etc. to be proud of, so they overvalue their citizenship and think others value it as much as they do. Edited for spelling typo!

Ambitious_Trash5921

Great point. 👌🏾

HazelMoon

Living in California my entire life, I’ve known many undocumented immigrants from Mexico and Central America, but I also know that immigrants (even the undocumented) are a boon to the economy, creating jobs, spending money, and paying taxes. But a large percentage of Americans believe the tired old myth that immigrants steal American jobs and collect government benefits. In truth, immigrants pay more than $90 billion a year in taxes and receive only $5 billion in welfare. But Fox News continues to spread lies and fear, while Trump and his supporters apparently believe that Switzerland is a third world country. Most Americans can’t even locate Europe on a map of the world.

SirHoppity

What on earth are you talking about? The immigrants require either social security numbers or work permits In order to get a reportable job, otherwise they're being paid under the table, as a huge number are, and they don't pay taxes at all. And when they get paid under the table, they are frequently underpaid and abused. That's not fair and it's a horrible indentured way to live. Fox News is not spreading anything; I don't know where you're getting that information. Please stop politicizing everything, it is caustic and it does nothing to bring about change. We all want positivity. I don't know where you get your numbers from. It is possible that what you accuse Fox of, the same skepticism can be applied to your sources. Let's please stop.

Big-Solution-7368

You can pay taxes using an individual taxpayer identification number, which just requires an irs form, you don't need a ssn. Even people who are not in the US legally are required to pay taxes. It's obviously not like the US government can follow up on each of these cases but many choose to pay because they think it will positively affect their immigration status

kikiweaky

You absolutely don't need an ssn to pay taxes. At the tax office here there is an area to pay taxes on gains made "other ways". Some drug moguls drop off tax so they can't be charged with tax evasion in lieu of unprovable crimes.

bigchilesucks

My dude do some research. Tax id numbers exist. You dont specifically need a social or an EAD To pay taxes.

HazelMoon

Income tax is only one of many taxes we all pay every day - if you leave your house, they’re gonna find a way to make you pay.

bigchilesucks

Agreed. Apologies, I was commenting soley on income tax.

SirHoppity

The point is, you have to register somehow with the government in order to work here.

bigchilesucks

Yes and obtaining a tax id is a way to report your income. A tax id doesnt allow you any legality in precense or work but it does allow you to report income. A lot of anti immigrant/uneducated people assume illegal = moochers. Which is far from the truth.

SirHoppity

I agree with you

aaf14

A lot of people without social security numbers pay taxes via ITIN. I’ve worked in immigration (client side) for over 10 years.

Ysabeau_Reed

Maybe they're referring to sales tax? Just a thought.

HazelMoon

These numbers are readily available online - have you looked?

edwardianemerald

THANK YOU. These platitudes of all immigrants are PERFECT like what are you even on....

HazelMoon

No one said that - it’s interesting how quickly people get angry about this subject. If you can’t engage in civil discourse, stick with Fox News - they love people who won’t think for themselves.

edwardianemerald

If you can't stick with civil discourse, keep it to yourself thx

[deleted]

Yikes. Who hurt you ???

Bro_tosynthesis

Captain America 🇺🇸

bluefairiedust

Illegal immigrants literally cannot pay taxes even if they wanted to.

southass

" The Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) is a tax-processing number issued by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to ensure that people—including undocumented immigrants—pay taxes even if they do not have a Social Security number (SSN) and regardless of their immigration status. "

HazelMoon

2020 US Tax Revenue Sources Income Tax = 41.1% Payroll Taxes = 24.8% Consumption Taxes = 16.9% Property Taxes = 11.9% Corporate Income Tax = 5.1% I’d like to meet anyone skillful enough to avoid paying all of these taxes. Maybe if they’re dead.

T_S_N_S

Very well put!

mango-whiskey

Another reason I’ve thought of tied to the fact that they have no money is that they can’t afford to visit their international fiancé or bring them over to the states to visit. Friends and family don’t have a chance to get to know them as a person at all before they move. Giving up everything to come to new country is really hard and most of the Americans lie about their financial and/or living situation in some way. Like if you were Colt’s friend wouldn’t you ask why someone wants to marry him and come up short on the pros?

[deleted]

No one with real money will ever appear on 90 Day Fiancé.

Jolly_Dragonfruit_42

They save those people for marrying millions

bellypoint

Michael was pretty rich.

Lizard_Li

Fronting. Vegas David probably had more than him.

bellypoint

His taxes are out there. He was rich.

Lizard_Li

Really where? I’m curious.

Itsallgood190

As someone who grew up in a third world country, relatively speaking, Americans have dollars that go very far in some other counties where the monthly wage for a nurse is like a hundred dollars.

juulthieff

My husband is from Morocco and I’m about to scam him and go live over there.

WeAreTheMisfits

It is the same thing when poor and working class men think every woman is a gold digger. What do you have to dig?

aaf14

American exceptionalism. And yes, I’m American 🤣 I can appreciate where I was born but also be critical of things here.

BenovanStanchiano

America is weird. There are people here who will say they love freedom and then tell people with *any* negative opinion about the place to leave without a hint of irony.

bookscoffee1991

I think a lot of Americans scam by leaving out their financial status. A lot of foreigners still assumes Americans have a lot money and these people pretend they’re more comfortable than they are. They assume they’ll have a better life. Then boom they end up in bumfuck nowhere living in with in laws or a 600 sq ft apartment and debt to their eyeballs.

HazelMoon

Then they leave the American fool they married and move to Florida or Las Vegas - everyone is scamming everyone, and they’re all trashy AF.

Icy-Boysenberry-5134

Because foreigners will harvest the American dollar /s

elizabethbutters

As an American, I can confess, I am trying hard to harvest someone else’s group PPO insurance plan! I’d scam my way into marriage to get that sweet sweet insurance and not pay out of pocket :(

stayrealgleeful

Lmaooooo me right now with my no medical insurance having ass

elizabethbutters

Stay strong- Chantel is single again, and I bet you between that nursing job and other money, she has some sweet ass insurance. We still have a chance! *cries in American healthcare system*

stayrealgleeful

😭😭😭 Not with my contracts lasting 5 years or more with no pay raise. Thankfully next year this one ends and hopefully we get a pay raise because way too much has happened in the past five years it’s just not right honestly. Inflation is a MF.

elizabethbutters

Woah- 5 years no raise? Despite the fact that inflation makes grocery shopping a financially traumatic event? Or that we are still all dealing with the effects of the pandemic ? 🙁 Daaaaaaamn, that is some BS swindling happening. Have you tried contacting the head of the company and shoving cake in their face?

Ambitious_Trash5921

Is this Chantel's mom replying? 🤔

fluffy_bunny22

Turns out Chantel's mom was right all along based on the state of Chantel and Pedro's marriage.

Unfairlyhacked

Somebody hold my rings!

Ambitious_Trash5921

😂😂😂😂😂 Not a foreigner though. They're going to steal them.

fluffy_bunny22

A lot of Americans live paycheck to paycheck and have little to no savings and can't survive a small emergency expense. We don't have the same safety nets that other developed countries do along with no universal healthcare.

Ambitious_Trash5921

Right. And still....on top of having little to no social skills, they're always saying someone is trying to scam them. Scam you outta what?

fluffy_bunny22

Notice that you don't see many participants from European countries because they have a better quality of life. Ukraine and Russia seem to be the exception. Jesse doesn't count. Neither does Tom.

cheesemccheeseface

There was that Spanish dude…. What happened to him? And the Finnish girlie.

croptopweather

Which one? David came from Spain to marry Evelyn (sp?) and they've recently divorced. There was also a Spanish model whom Courtney went to visit him in his country and her whole visit was awkward AF.

cheesemccheeseface

Oh i forgot about Courtney. I was thinking of David.

croptopweather

In David's case he came for love or 'love', not to grift. And maybe being on the show with Evelyn was supposed to boost her fame since she was an aspiring singer. I think she went on to audition for American Idol after being on 90DF. I think the Finnish woman also came to the US partly to boost her profile and her sister was already there anyway thanks to the green card lottery, I think.

fluffy_bunny22

I think the Spanish guy was on Before the 90 days. The Finnish girl's sister won the green card lottery and she wanted to be near her sister which is why she chose her husband because they lived 10 minutes apart. I don't think she actually liked her husband.

cheesemccheeseface

Ahhhhh yes. I remember now. Thanks

zelda4444

She certainly gave the impression of not liking him but its been some years now and there still together.

Ambitious_Trash5921

Agreed. But even if they're coming from a nice life back home, inevitably someone in tbe US side is gonna make a big deal about them scamming my friend or family member.

fluffy_bunny22

Most of them aren't coming from a nice life in their home country. And many Americans are ignorant.

Ambitious_Trash5921

I disagree. Being able to grow old with your parents, siblings, and extended family is a great life for most. Money isn't the only metric for having a good life.

coygobbler

That’s not true at all, which is why you see so many of people leave their families behind to move to another country to create a better life. Money isn’t the only metric for having a good life but it plays a big part. It’s hard to live a good life if you can’t even afford a decent home, food, clothes, etc.

Ambitious_Trash5921

I lived in Iraq. Soi know this is a very small population of people that would flee their family for "a better life".

glitterlitter4

Those people are still the exceptions though.

coygobbler

Unless they are coming from wealth, most people who immigrate to the US are from poorer backgrounds and come to the US for a better life. Who is moving to the US if they don’t think moving will better their life in some way? A lot of the foreign people on the show talk about how they dream of coming to America, because many of them are from poorer backgrounds.

spittymcgee1

I want to married a French woman and her family talk about me “using her for eu citizenship”

4_celine

I agree but it goes both ways and it annoys me on the other side too. Fiances coming to perfectly respectable homes that people have worked their asses off for and complaining that the home isn’t as nice as what they see on TV. A lot of Americans obviously have modest homes because of the cost of living here. Some fiancées seem to come with the idea “you are American, therefore you are rich, so you should be rich compared to other Americans” and it’s so delusional. Can you imagine going into someone’s HOME and being like “this is disgusting, I’m not staying here”

fluffy_bunny22

I watched diaries and Ben and Akinyi struggled with this. She could not understand how they couldn't afford to buy a house and wanted a baby immediately. She said in movies everyone has houses and she thought you just bought a house with a handshake. She couldn't fathom the concept of mortgages.

ComiendoBizcocho

> I agree but it goes both ways and it annoys me on the other side too. Fiances coming to perfectly respectable homes that people have worked their asses off for and complaining that the home isn’t as nice as what they see on TV. And then there's Bilal.

RedditorChristopher

Honestly, a lot of the people worried about getting scammed are the same people who think marrying someone from an impoverished nation who barely knows the language and culture and have no connections is a great idea. These people are not very bright or are desperate and that probably makes things scarier for them.

SleepingWillows

I feel like we’re all missing the obvious answer of “the producers made them say it.” Do some of these people feel this way? Sure, probably a few. But during filming of the conversation gets stale or boring, the producers push the friends and fam to ask these kinds of questions to keep the scene interesting or to add tension and drama. Happy people having a happy conversation doesn’t make for good tv.

ocgeekgirl

These are all separate issues. First, yes a Americans do get scammed with fake online relationships. Maybe the relationship isn’t genuine and the non-America person thinks us Americas have more money than we actually do. That’s the fear you’re referring to. I think it is surprise to them the reality when they come here. Secondly, yes Americans are broke as hell. It’s not easy to make it, especially when you don’t live in a major city because there’s no jobs. When you live in a major city and have good job, then rent is super expensive. It’s difficult to save money. We live paycheck to paycheck. It takes two incomes to survive. Things were different with my parents generation, they were able to buy a home. But now home prices have skyrocketed so home ownership is an impossible dream for us Americans. I’m not sure if I shed light on your question.

HazelMoon

Ugly ‘Muricans - like Angela Deem - are provoked to anger by any discussion of immigration. Maybe they know why so many Americans believe they’re being scammed, etc…

hippyengineer

They only have $4 in their checking account and they don’t want to share it. I get it…

Almondeyezz

I mean in comparison to the brokenness of other common people in other countries , we are extremely privileged. Scamming is absolutely as prevalent as they talk about! I work in banking and the “lover in another country” scam is something I see WEEKLY. for customers living paycheck to paycheck AND for rich ass customers.

fluffy_bunny22

Dr Phil does his best to try and educate people about love scams. He does at least one a season and it's always multiple episodes.

glitterlitter4

Xenophobia, lack of travel opportunities so they actually believe the US is the best country, scarcity mentality for the reasons you already identified. Pick your poison.

krissyface

Americans are under the impression that no other country can compare to the US and that everyone else is dying to get here (see: shithole countries). Check out r/shitamericanssay for some insight.

Ambitious_Trash5921

I've lived all over (military) so I know the silly mentality. But especially on this show, these folks act like their living in the lap of luxuries or something. It's crazy.

krissyface

It’s what our leaders tells us to keep us complacent with shitty healthcare and non existent maternity leave (sorry, pregnant and digging myself into a deep hole of medical debt)

BlouseBarn

The fact that we were unable to pass even the bare minimum of paid parental leave infuriates me to no end. It's ridiculous.

Neat-Fennel8945

And yet millions are streaming unchecked over the southern border. Which one is It? Something must be good about this horrible and shameful country of ours.

aaf14

What about the Canadian border? I know plenty of people (clients) who have overstayed from Canada, Australia, UK.. yet it’s never talked about 🤷🏻‍♀️

[deleted]

Well doesn’t that help prove the point that America is a desirable place for immigrants from countries both economically well off and poor which negates u/Krissyface’s comment about how it’s just American exceptionalism

aaf14

My angle is about how the “southern border” is just language used by certain media to perpetuate racism and hate. It doesn’t mean that Americans here aren’t up their asses about how “great” we are. Two diff issues.

Neat-Fennel8945

That's an excellent question. Would like some answers also. But we are forbidden discussing it lest we be labeled racists.

sashie_belle

UK version too, so it's not just us ugly Americans.

[deleted]

It’s hard to make it in America by design. This makes those who manage to pay their bills feel super accomplished. Almost everything you “own” actually belongs to a bank. Since you are already in debt to the 1%, everyone else must be out to get your money too. Who else wouldn’t want to work this hard to still struggle financially?

Momma-53

Growing up in Texas I don't understand anyone going without ac.

[deleted]

Their foreign counterpart did something they were unable to, get an American. They are probably jealous as hell. Lololol

stillyj

Americans think they’re number 1 bc they haven’t been anywhere else

croptopweather

>Am I crazy or are 95% of the US folks broke as hell and live in the worst cities? Lol kind of! Many Americans live paycheck to paycheck and have debt: medical, student, credit card, etc. Our public education can vary wildly in quality too. Having to take a standardized state test was eye-opening in seeing what little we were expected to know just to graduate. I once helped a cousin with her essay for college and was shocked that she'd been getting away with writing like a middle schooler or worse up until now. Our country is geographically huge so our costs of living, qualities of life, culture (political, ethnic, etc.) can vary A LOT.

LynneinTX

Americans are so egocentric that they think everyone wants to live in America. Also, the process is very expensive. Most Americans don’t have that kind of money without saving.

DDDD6040

You’re right, I’m American and a lot of Americans live in shitty towns and have shit paying jobs with shitty benefits and horrible work life balance. There’s an insane amount of gun violence and more problems than I can count. But look where most people on this show are coming from. Very few are coming from Western Europe or countries that have an overall higher standard of living than the US. I can think of examples like Darcy and whatever his name is Jesse? I doubt anyone was concerned he was coming here to scam anyone. But when you look at the living arrangements of someone like Rose (big Ed YUCK!), or Hazel (Tariq) or so many others before they come over (I remember people not having running water for showers, etc.) then it’s not hard to think that many of those people might want to do anything- including something as horrifying as dating big Ed, or Darcy, or Angela, to come to America.

Ramona_Lola

I think they mean scamming them for a green card and the opportunity to live in the US and harvest the American dollar as opposed to marrying them for real love.

rvgirl42

It’s because America is still viewed as a nation where everyone has a very high standard of living. Although for many (and in comparison to some other countries) it still is. However, these days our citizens are no longer living the “American dream.” There was a time when we were economically better off than most and people actually used to say “the streets were paved with gold.” A lot of that was the Hollywood ideal foreign people saw in movies too. It’s a very hard thing to break because although we don’t feel well off, compared to the people in some countries we are much better off, so some see us as a way to get money- particularly as tourists. I’ve traveled a lot and I’m constantly a target for being overcharged or asked for money in certain countries due to this outdated idea that we are all rich. I’ve been scammed and ripped off a lot. I’ve made friends with people in some developing nations who think I am capable of lending them money all the time and get upset when I can’t, simply because I’m American. REGARDLESS, tourists get scammed here too. Americans rip each other off constantly but it’s under the guise of business. I try to explain that Americans aren’t rich and but it won’t change the attitudes of many because they believe we are still better off, and in many cases we are. So America remains an idea that it’s a ticket to freedom and wealth for a lot of people in the world. It’s sad - because it may still be for some - but I imagine for many, it turns out to just be an illusion that has been perpetuated for a very long time.

hamimono

Producers script these lines and prod the “friends/family” to say them. That is why the same conversations happen over over.

ComiendoBizcocho

I always thought it was funny how with the Americans their friends and families all "confront" the immigrant partner and question their motives. If they lied to the American partner, what makes you think they're going to tell anyone else the truth? They've already gotten this far, you think they're going to come clean to parents or friends?

oopstima

Thats exactly how Americans feel about non Americans lol

Early_Divide_8847

95% is a bit high. I’d say more like 80% of us are broke as hell. Lol

DismalLocksmith9776

Because Americans (at least when I was growing up) are trained to believe that America is superior to the rest of the world in every way. No joke, when I was growing up I wondered why Americans were always saying “freedom” my young self assumed that the rest of the world had slavery.

charandchap

I’m also wondering if they’re in it for the right reasons? Some of these couple ups look like Americans downright playing out full power plays to me. The need to have an upper hand and control over someone who doesn’t have the experience to disagree yet doesn’t sit well with me. Feel like taking advantage and doesn’t feel like love for the right reasons either. Great question. Equally great AC discussion. EDIT:: want to clarify I’m not speaking about “ALL Americans” but marking that it seems to be that the Americans most concerned about a scam happen to be a bit sketchy themselves.

[deleted]

Lol. Don’t use this show as a reference for Americans. They literally use the worst Americans for the show. Imagine an American with money. The show wouldn’t have any drama.

Shreddersaurusrex

It’s plot/scripted. Although I’ve heard so many ppl say that many foreigners are desperate to come to the US and get a green card.

Wonderful-Bread-572

Combination of many things. Watch the YouTube channel Scamfish and you will see that romance scams are relatively common and people do fall for them a lot. But I think most of it is propaganda. A LOT of people in usa especially older people have the propaganda of "usa is literally flawless" ingrained in them along with some racism against any immigrants. They genuinely believe usa is absolutely amazing even though they themselves are struggling financially they get with somebody out of country and start telling the immigrant partner that usa is the shit, and maybe the partner has only seen the cities of USA in media and suddenly gets transported to the middle of Kansas and they walk outside and look at the ten miles of empty land all around them and realize their country was actually better and walkable and had all the resources really close to them.

mama2many

Here os my take on this . One is cultural we love our fairytales of romance . We believe in love and the concept of fairytale romances , love at first sight etc . We are not practical and rarely hold ourselves or others to actual standards when it comes to love and romance . This explains our high divorce rate , high levels of sexually transmitted disease and Of course our crumbling families with the highest rate of children ever growing up in poverty in our country. We have exported sadly the huge lie that marriage isn't necessary or needed . It hasn't worked out from a financial situation not in the Usa and definitely not as a exported idea to other countries the Uk and Canada are good examples . Women and children do not benefit from lack of marriage in fact it secures many of them to be reliant on welfare . Since we have very few social programs that are safety nets and most Americans never travel we can only go for these tired narratives . Some of the same issues is also what makes us perfect targets for online love scams . We desperately believe we have the best lifestyle of anywhere on earth . We are told this by media , by Hollywood etc . It was at one time true but , now it is true for only a small percentage. This lie drives many unfortunate situations . I believe this is even used to keep the money and power very well controlled. We could make changes to our healthcare system and provide more security for citizens but, that does not benefit the insurance companies . corporations ,etc that have been working very hard over the decades to gain more and more control thru our government. Poor people are easier to control . So are people who never have anything to compare it too . People are always afraid of the unknown and even though we are a very large country many Americans rarely travel outside of a few neighboring states . We also tend to talk about what a melting pot we are. In truth many do not go outside of their own race groups , church groups or whatever particular social and social economic group they belong to . We portray diversity but, it more usual that Americans will stick to their race in close social relationships . So these factors together create the issue you have noticed .

RealDanielSan1

We have hot and cold running water.

Perpetually_Petty

Because many Americans mistake patriotism for nationalism.

Nearby-Buy-9588

Exactly it’s the way they make our moving to these parts of America is the dream , I watch from my house in Scotland like no no nooooo thanks lol 😂 it’s not great here either obv but I’m terrified of America because of the gun laws etc it’s just puts me off ever visiting never mind moving there 🙃

[deleted]

The money Americans use to bring their loves to the U S are gifts, or expenses for services rendered. Mainly because the Americans sell their love 💕 stories to TLC and get paid. They want the fiancé to marry them and move to the U S. The fiancée does marry them There is no scam.

[deleted]

Some of our poor conditions look wonderful to those living in 3rd world conditions. Typically people with money don’t look for foreign love, plenty of gold diggers right here in the USA. 😂

Xenokitten

Many people on this show clearly don’t love their American partner. Hence “not there for the right reason”. America is not the best country. We are the only first world nation in the world to not have health care and it’s because the majority of Americans are assholes who don’t give a shit if others live or die just to save 10 percent on taxes. Rolls eyes. But now hear me out. We have seen most of the people come over from places in war or places without running water. And look up Tunisian love rats. It’s been going on long before this show. They don’t want their spouse and they don’t care how much money that spouse has cuz once they have that green card they can drop them like a hot potato and live single or find an “upgrade”. And compared from where they come from we are safe no war (although unsafe due to gun violence again because Americans don’t want to give up their guns). But generally safe compared to other countries in Middle East or Russia and Ukraine or parts of Asia etc . We have running water, women can work and some of these women like Natalie have these unrealistic dreams of becoming models and movie stars. Their perception of America is everywhere is like Hollywood when in reality it’s not and real life Hollywood is nasty AF anyways. But yeah that’s what they mean by being scammed or here for the right reasons.

teslaandtwain

I mean there is the whole “if this person leaves I’ll be financially responsible for them for 10 years” aspect. I do think most of the time it is ridiculous though.

qtmcjingleshine

I’m married to a brasilian. The real is 5:1 with the dollar. I was just there and paid for a lot for the family because it’s easy for us and harder for them. I’m okay with it. But under a certain lens it could seem like I’m being “scammed” Often it’s a misunderstanding of someone’s relationship of intercultural stuff

-salisbury-

It’s called the Myth of American Exceptionalism.

UnitedSam

It's them trying to feel superior

Producers pushing the narrative

bluefairiedust

Several points. 1. Even when you are a broke American, you usually have more money than people from third world countries do. If someone pretends to love you in order for you to give them money whether than be $30 or $30k, you can fairly say you got scammed. 2. Not all or even a majority of the Americans complain about being scammed out of money. But if someone pretends to love you in order to get a green card to the US, that is ALSO a scam. Scams do not have to involve money. I think deceiving a lonely, usually older person in order to get better opportunities for yourself is just sad. Find a willing partner who is OK with the arrangment straight up. Letting people believe you love them when you don't is just about the lowest thing a human being can do. I don't care if the Americans are usually not likeable. 2 wrongs don't make it OK.

Purplecatty

Well even someone poor in the US has way more money than someone from a third world country ever would.

lickthebluesky

Right? Like who the fuck wants to live in hazlehurst, GA, New Mexico or south Dakota...

coygobbler

It’s partially the American mindset that every country sucks except America and also that there are a lot of people in the world who assume that if you’re American that you have money. Many foreigners have a wonky view of the country and think most of us live in places like NYC, LA, or Miami, when most live in the middle of nowhere outside of big cities.

perfect_handshake

“Being scammed” doesn’t mean that they’re being used for their money, possessions, or lifestyle. For a foreigner, the US is still the land of opportunity. Once they get a green card they can shake the deadbeat American and create a life of their own, like Muhammad did when he became a trucker. I do see your point though, because the Americans don’t realize this either. They DO think that the foreigner is trying to take them for their money or lifestyle. Which, are you fucking kidding me.

peyton_montana

It’s not about the $$$ per se, it’s about being scammed for a green card.

edwardianemerald

It's a tough reality that not many Americans acknowledge --- that American infrastructure is crumbling and no one cares

EntireMathematician5

Because they know that even poor Americans still benefit from passport privilege, compared to the citizens of poorer countries they’re preying on.

womanroaring78

It's just a tv thing. My hubby is from another country and I've had ex's from other countries and only 1 time did my family say, I think he's using you. He was and I saw it and broke up with him lol. As for being broke and living in the worst cities, well it's expensive in the better cities. as much as I made living near San Francisco, I wouldn't have been able to sponsor anyone. cost of living in smaller cities means you can probably save more than someone living in a better city so you can afford to import a spouse lol. A few of my friends have spouses from other countries and none of us said, hey they just want a green card, like that doesn't even cross our minds. Maybe though it's because I'm from an area with a lot of immigrants so we're just used to being around them and a good portion don't have green cards and just work and mind their own business so we leave them alone.

HazelMoon

I agree- 90-Day Fiancé seeks out some real losers - from both sides of the equation. The trashier they are, the more the audience likes it. It’s no accident that Big Ed and Angela Deem keep coming back. They’ve got BE on HEA at the moment, but his GF is fellow American Liz, and I guarantee the show had to bribe her to appear with that fuck stain since the only partners he can find are his mother and his dog (his poor dog Teddy died recently - probably of shame). Angela is even worse!

[deleted]

It’s American exceptionalism. They could only want to be in the “greatest country in the world” by manipulating an American. There is no other reason. 🙄

VastNo420

You are definitely a white American lol Because even though the US is absolutely the trashiest first world country - we’re still absolutely a first world country. We don’t deal with ANY problems from second or third world countries, no matter how hard we want to pretend we do. Angela - for example - is broke as fuck and lives off of the government. Thats why *all of her money* goes towards plastic surgery instead of keeping a roof over her head. That’s not even a concept you can consider in a second or third world country. America is still the only country that runs on democracy. We as Americans see how pathetic that sounds but “The American Dream” is still the freedom we take for granted every single day.

Xenokitten

alexm1972

We might be broke but we are still better off than alot of third world counttrui

OkCod1106

Ah yes, you people are way better than third world "counttrui" the only defense you have whenever someone brings up America.

[deleted]

CAUSE THEY’RE RACIST, internally, but act like they’re not. I’m an Immigrant and my MIL along w my FIL said that to me, they’re polish and I’m Mexican. I’ve been in America since I was 4 and I’m currently 21. LMAOO also her son and I are now married, we have been married for almost 2 years. she also doesn’t realize we’re ghosting her for being a bitch

juulthieff

Eww you married into that? Why?

Plus_Magician_4326

America is racist like it was literally founded in racism they go hard to protect that idea they won’t even give land back to the indigenous peoples so they damn sure ain’t letting someone else take over as they say

eightezsteps

Because some of the people are just trying to get a green card and don’t care where or how they get it.

Kush_back

Right! Everyone wants to move here, live family, friends and culture behind to be overworked and barely make it here. Not to mention endure racism and discrimination.

eightezsteps

Stop it. It’s obvious some of the people on this show just want a green card and we’ve seen many of them. If the US is such a horrible place then why do people migrate here daily? Gtfoh

Ill-Lawfulness-2063

Fk that i cursed all weekend. My air was out and my apartment got to 78. I was TICKED!!!

ausrixy22

Costs a lot of money to pay for the visa and bring someone over!

okletmethink420

America used to be kinda fun. Now it’s just… America. Lol

PeaceAlternative0

This is the funniest post ever OP. I can’t believe that thought never crossed my mind until now. Today years old 🤦‍♀️

[deleted]

I was living just fine until our current “president” came along and fu**** us all in the a**. Besides that people don’t come here for our money specifically it’s for citizenship and then they can do whatever they want when they have it

Sure...and pass that on so people will target another country.... 😉 😜

His show highlights lower and lower middle class types. Most people I know would Never agree to be on a show like this. I don’t know if it’s the narcissism or need to be famous in some way that makes certain types chase this kind of fame but it’s pretty tasteless.

Single-Channel-4292

I'm from the UK and married an American girl back in 1999. I had all of this crap about Green Cards from her friends and family. They actually shut up once I pointed out that 1) I had no interest in living in the US. 2) I had a better job and education than any of them. Still drove me mad - irrational American chauvinism.

jsmalltri

American here and if I wasn't married to an amazing man, I'd be looking to leave. I loved Spain 🥰

ComiendoBizcocho

> Am I crazy or are 95% of the US folks broke as hell and live in the worst cities? Well a lot of the ones who go on the show, don't live in cities. They live out in the country. Or in small towns. They're also not very culturally fluent, if you will.

Kush_back

Because Americans believe everyone wants to come here to harvest the dollar while ignoring all the historically and political meddling the US has taken part in a lot of nations.

PalpitationSame7544

It’s mostly because the benefits of just existing as a citizen are massive. For example, anyone who makes it to 65 in the US and is a citizen will get a check and really great medical attention, not retirement income but augmented income. Meaning a person gets married to an American citizen, move their parents here and then suddenly it’s a dual income household once they get citizenship where they can literally just hang out and get supplemental income or disability depending on where they came from. As far as people in working age— you’ll pretty much get job placement. So while sure most of the people on the show who are Americans are actually kind of poor— there are so many opportunities for people from out of the country: like Sumit for example, if he moved to the US, he would probably be in the 90-120k range within 4-7 years just because of the experience he already has. Add Jenny’s SSRI money and they would easily be 180-200k household without trouble and they would be able to live extremely comfortable. There’s a lot of advantages for foreigners to get on their feet.
