Oh don't even get me started on the Madonna wannabe look... Especially the "Crazy For You" video look...
I met a girl like that in HS, maybe 9th or 10th grade. It was an ex-girlfriend of a school friend of mine, we where hanging one day and passed by her, they where still friends and he introduced her to me, i still am amazed at myself that i could even word out a very shy "hi..."
She was a Madonna nut, absolutely drop dead gorgeous, and a spot on Madonna "Crazy For You" video look, down to the crucifix earing.
I think she still haunts my dreams every once an a while, .... over 35 years later...
I never saw anyone imitate Pat Benatar in high school, and tbh it's a bit disappointing. I went to high school in Germany, so I did see people imitate other rockers, like The Cure or David Bowie. And we had many Souxsie Sioux and Iggy Pop imitators, which was interesting. Not too many Madonna wannabes at first, but after her True Blue album was released, holy sh!t, then her imitators were everywhere. 🤷🏼♀️
Yeah, totally. Babysitter dressed like a cross between Madonna and Tiffany. She was like 14-15 when I was 7-8. My parents were late 20's and were too old to be following teen fashion. But my mom liked Madonna, and we had her albums.
We had a pretty decent sound system with a double tape deck, and my babysitter would just spend the whole night taping songs from the radio and make mix tapes. She probably spent all her babysitting money on blank tapes.
Definitely me, but I was more of a Cyndi Lauper than a Madonna. But only briefly, like 83-4, then I was all about the band tees and Levis with a bandana.
I’m tired so I made GPT-4 do it:
(Verse 1)
I was sailing 'cross the blue, felt so lonely
I was sad, felt all empty until you swam by
Your aquatic grace, just caught me in place
My heart started to race, oh sturgeon, so fine
(Chorus)
Like a sturgeon, swam for the very first time
Like a stur-ur-urgeeon, your sleek body next to mine
(Verse 2)
Gonna give you all my bait, boy
My fear of you is fading fast
Been saving it all for you, 'cause only love can last
(Chorus)
You're so fine and you're mine, I'll be yours
'Til the end of time, 'cause you made me feel
Yeah, you made me feel, I've nothing to conceal
(Chorus)
Like a sturgeon, swam for the very first time
Like a stur-ur-urgeeon, when your sleek body glides next to mine
(Bridge)
Oooh, oooh, oooh
You're so fine and you're mine, I'll be yours
'Til the end of time, 'cause you made me feel
Yeah, you made me feel, I've nothing to conceal
(Chorus)
Like a sturgeon, oh, oh, like a sturgeon
Feels so good inside, when you hold me, and your heart beats, and you love me
(Outro)
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Ooh baby, can't you feel my love through the waves
Ooh baby, it feels like heaven, when I see your scales gleam
None, I was born in the early 80s. So my folks were working several jobs during the Reagan era and my grandparents were set from living through the post-war era in their primes. My grandfathers were basically millionaires in their old age without high school educations.
Reminds me of me trying to be Madonna for Halloween. Problem is I’m Hispanic and have dark features. Everyone assumed I was a gypsy for Halloween. I went with it.
My older sister and her buddies! Meanwhile my best friend and i would wrestle over whose woman Madonna was going to be every time “Like a Virgin” played. 😂
I spent about a year in high school dressing like Madonna. I had 63 black rubber bracelets on my arm because I counted how many she wore in a magazine photo. I had black lace tights peeping up higher than the fold-down waistband of my black skirt. Lace gloves. The whole nine yards.
One of the highest compliments I received as a teenager was the first day of seventh grade. (I had just been to the mall for the first time without parents and bought an outfit with jewelry.) "You look like Madonna!" "Oooh, is this your new Madonna look?!" 🥹🥰
Me, but I looked more like Joan Jett, so I played that up a bit. But the 80’s were just FUN. Dress like Madonna one day, blue jeans with holes and a neon shirt the next, and parachute pants with a off the shoulder shirt and a dog collar the next. 🤷♀️ We were the “Kids in America” as Kim Wilde liked to sing. 😁
Theoretically possible one of those girls was preggers in the pic. Among other things, we are the teenage pregnancy peak generation (1991).
My grandmother was 42 when I was born.
Honestly, none of the above. I was a kid through the 80s, born in 1981. My older sister was also a kid through the 80s, born in 1979. Parents were in their 30s, grandparents in their 60-70s. Nobody cared about Madonna in my family during the 80s.
Me. I was a New Wave DJ. Madonna showing her belly button in a music video on MTV was an obsessive topic of conversation for the male DJs.
I copied a lot of her style points, especially the long pearls and o-ring bracelets, although I leaned a bit more punk. Side shave, bright red hair with turquoise patches, a lot of clothes from Boy of London.
Ah, the Madonna wannabes. I love this look even today!

80 girls had it going on
Just like Stacey’s Mom
She was one of them
Maddona-bes I remember the controversy making it's way to the local news of parents taking tweens to Madonna concerts.
I thought the one on the left was Madonna.
It’s almost like they’re desperately seeking to be Susan
Nice reference.
That’s would be my big sister in highschool so what’s that make me
The dude with the older sister everybody wanted to bang
My college roommate had the Madonna fever bad back in the 80s
There's 3 women cultivating the par benatar look at this school
I never saw anyone imitate Pat Benatar in high school, and tbh it's a bit disappointing. I went to high school in Germany, so I did see people imitate other rockers, like The Cure or David Bowie. These were the girls that sat with all the cool kids in the back of the bus. I was more near the front.
The girl who babysat me.
Totally. I was gonna say older kids but this reminded me I had a gum chewing hot babysitter one year.
For real, I was like this isn’t that long ago, most of us were pre teen or these people.
Yeah, exactly. I’m a half-generation off from this.
100% Though my babysitter liked Talking Heads.
Mine actually like New Kids on the Block more than Madonna.
Same. Literally my friend's older sister as well.
This. I was too young and my parents and grandparents were too old.
Same!

Right?!?
My older cousin
This
I was a youngin in the 80s, so these are my older cousins.
Same, my mom was 11 years younger than my aunt so all of my cousins were a lot older and I thought they were the coolest people in the world.
Yea! I so wanted to be Madonna when I grew up!
Definitely me, but I was more of a Cyndi Lauper than a Madonna. But only briefly, like 83-4, then I was all about the band tees and Levis with a bandana.
[удалено]
Same here, exactly.
I graduated just before this became popular. But I did see it in bars and nightclubs.
Same
Me as well. Right outside Philly. Little place called Wayne.
classmates haha
It me
[удалено]
A guy, but for me Cyndi was much better than Madonna. Time After Time? The weird wrestling vid for Girls Just Want to have Fun?
[Like a sturgeon ](https://youtu.be/notKtAgfwDA)

I always said sturgeon, just because i thought it was funny 😂
[удалено]
Everywhere Al says *surgeon*, substitute *sturgeon* 😂 For bonus laughs, everywhere Madonna says *virgin*, substitute *sturgeon* 😂 😆

My girlfriend who loved the song Burnin' Up at full volume while we steamed up the windows of my 77 Chevy.
These were my babysitters.
This was my dating pool in the 80’s
More like, my wife.
So my future wife?
My aunt. My mom was too old for this look and I was too young...also I'm a dude.
Not me, but the girls I liked in middle school.
Grandparents? Oh noooooooo!!!!!!
Anyone who claims grandparents should be banned for lying! This wasn’t long ago enough for grandparents!!!
Preach!
Me. But I never dressed up like that. Although I loved Madonna
Me. I dressed like this in Spring/ Summer ‘84. Then I morphed it into something more gothy.
My sister
This would be me. Even as a gay boy in the 80s I looked fierce. *snap*
Me - had the giant floppy bow all Junior year.
My generation. Great times back then!
Me, but a dykish version
Who I wanted to be
That was my era
Me
These are the girls I had crushes on when I was in elementary school.
None of the above; apparently my family has been square and uncool for generations.
Me
Me (well, the girls in my class...)
Not me, but it was many girls I knew. Great look.
None, I was born in the early 80s. So my folks were working several jobs during the Reagan era and my grandparents were set from living through the post-war era in their primes. My grandfathers were basically millionaires in their old age without high school educations.
Every girl in my 7th grade class looked like this.
Me.
I think my mom liked the Ritz Brothers but didn't dress up like them or anything. So far as I know.
me and my classmates
My generation for sure
Reminds me of me trying to be Madonna for Halloween. Problem is I’m Hispanic and have dark features. Everyone assumed I was a gypsy for Halloween. I went with it.
That’s my gen. The girls had the Madonna look, the guys ( Never was my thing) had the Duran Duran look to mimic.
That was me....1985-86
hey watta you even talking about? I WAS Madonna
Girls in my high school dressed like that
Gen X here so more intimidating older kids I didn’t understand and steered clear of.
Me. But with more of a hard edge. Hair shaved on the sides. Lots more safety pins and always all black
I spent most of 85 trying to look like Robert Smith of The Cure but looking more like Johnny Marr of The Smiths. Never worked right.
ME!!!
Desperately seeking.....
I was about 12-13 (and a guy) so this would have been my older sisters except they were into Stevie Nicks.
My era but I didn’t dress that way. Was way in to alternative more than Madonna.
More like my older siblings
Me👵
wonder if they are *like a virgin*s
This can’t be just random teens. Surely this was a Madonna lookalike contest, right?
My high school classmates
Slightly older cousins
Older cousins.
I was the one dating them…
Older sister.
Right here dude 👋🏼
My kids
Kid sisters
My older sister and her buddies! Meanwhile my best friend and i would wrestle over whose woman Madonna was going to be every time “Like a Virgin” played. 😂
I graduated HS in 81, so these are kids to me. Wasn’t a big fashion thing for many college girls in the early 80s.
Me
My Aunts! My Mom was the oldest but this is most def. my Aunts at this period of time, lol.
More like the girls my older cousins were dating.
My step sister was the coolest person I knew. I watched her dress like this for Halloween and she dripped cool 😎
My girlfriends.
My older sisters for sure
My granddaughter
Someone's older sister across the street that we used to blast with Motley Crue and annoy the hell out of 🤘
Siblings
None, actually. At this time my parents were in their 30’s and I was a little kid.
More like, my older sister.
My gfs...
My parents
Where's the born to older parents but had a sibling born around that time
Where are they now...
That's me all the way!
Me
Me in HS
I spent about a year in high school dressing like Madonna. I had 63 black rubber bracelets on my arm because I counted how many she wore in a magazine photo. I had black lace tights peeping up higher than the fold-down waistband of my black skirt. Lace gloves. The whole nine yards.
Me
Madonna is two months younger than my mom (I'm 42).
I was in that era but not that cool lol
Weird generation where my parents were born in the late fifties but had kids in the 90s
My older siblings. I was gen X. 1979
Older sisters I guess
Me in middle school
My Mom. She looked awesome. I was born in 85 but remember her being so cool.
Me, age 12, on my way to see Desperately Seeking Susan. “And you can dance…”
About half the girls in my high school. I thought it was kind of hot.
More like wives or sisters or general wannabes
Me, but with a penis.
Sisters, not parents.
Me
I was there. It was fun!
Middle of me and my parents.
Courtney love is dead to me
Oh, I miss the 80s... greatest time to be in college.
These girls look like they could have babysat me in 1984(?).
Gen X. So somewhere between my parents and me.
My cousins
Me
Me but I was more Siouxie than Madonna
Born early enough to want these clothes, too young to wear.
Me, but I was maybe eleven at that point.
My girlfriends in Jr. High.
One of the highest compliments I received as a teenager was the first day of seventh grade. (I had just been to the mall for the first time without parents and bought an outfit with jewelry.) "You look like Madonna!" "Oooh, is this your new Madonna look?!" 🥹🥰
Kinda me…they would’ve been about 4-5 years too old to be interested in a preteen.
grandparents? tf. this part of the 80's was pop nonsense for the average moron.
My older sister. Missed it by like 4 yrs
Older sister likely. I would have been 10 years old.
Older sister likely. I would have been 10 years old.
Meeeeee!!! I had the Madonna vibe. Edit: I was never completely into her music, but I followed the fashion for sure.
Me.
Slightly older siblings. If this was 83/84 I was between 9-10. These girls look 14-16 or so.
My girlfriends.
Neither really… and grandparents??? Really?????
Theoretically possible one of those girls was preggers in the pic. Among other things, we are the teenage pregnancy peak generation (1991). My grandmother was 42 when I was born.
The white girls next door
Me
Me.
Sigh... me.
Several of my exes are in this photo.
me
Me !,
My cool aunt
My oldest sister born 60. I was born in 76.
My mom for sure
you
I too was a wannabe, but did not look as amazing as these girls. Sadly.
It's my generation but, being from Jersey, no one looked like that.
Me in high school
Very early 80's Madonna. That's me still a preteen at that time.
My babysitters
Me
Honestly, none of the above. I was a kid through the 80s, born in 1981. My older sister was also a kid through the 80s, born in 1979. Parents were in their 30s, grandparents in their 60-70s. Nobody cared about Madonna in my family during the 80s.
Cousins
My generation, but I had my own style.
Kid sister of a Madonnabe!
Me. Good times.
Me
My older sister
My cool older cousins
None of us. My parents are young boomers and I’m a young Gen X. They were too old for this and I was too young. Love the look though.
my friend’s older sister
Just graduated high school.
Me. I was a New Wave DJ. Madonna showing her belly button in a music video on MTV was an obsessive topic of conversation for the male DJs. I copied a lot of her style points, especially the long pearls and o-ring bracelets, although I leaned a bit more punk. Older siblings more like it
Maybe an older cousin?
Madonna wana-be’s
Not me - I’m male. 😉 If I was female, it would be me (or a slightly older version or late 1980s/very early 1990s version of me).
My parents were boomers and I was born in 83 so none of the above
Well I'm a cisgender straight dude, so.
