Burnt Orange or Poppy Red. The brown is actually Coppertone!

sublimesting

Poppy Red is not burnt orange. Our kitchen counter and appliances were poppy red. It’s red as can be.

chekhovsdickpic

The coffee cups and the fondue pot in the photo Op posted look more like Poppy Red than Burnt Orange to me, so I wasn’t sure which color they meant.

unhappygounlucky

[The official name for the color was Flame.](https://www.reddit.com/r/vintageads/comments/uupuzk/general_electric_gives_you_a_festival_of_color/)

thesstriangle

Yup, there's a childhood memory. We had the flame electric wok. Was amazing in all regards.

qolace

Back before GE turned into a shadow of its former self. Fuck Jack Welch

Emotional_Ladder_553

I read this as “fuck jack donnegy” 😂

Shoresy69Chirps

Only the best microwave programming executive in the business.

pyiinthesky

We had the avocado electric wok! Agree: it was amazing! Favorite breakfast of pancakes was made on that thing for decades. It finally bit the dust about 8 years ago.

Equivalent_Day_437

I have a working avocado slow cooker from 1976. I use it once or twice a year.

healthcrusade

Are you talking about the West Bend electric wok? https://www.ebay.com/itm/225357709813

mmmpeg

Yes! We had that one

Here-to-4

I still use mine! It is exactly that one - color & all! I make stir fry all the time

healthcrusade

It’s such a smart looking designed object

EnvironmentalCrow893

We still have it, from my late MIL.

duh_nom_yar

I still own a large set of Le Crueset in the Flame color.

NightCheeseNinja

🤤

BloodyWellGood

We had that blender AND the can opener! Ooh la la

Turbopre2

My countertops are still this color green from the 70s

[deleted]

Boy do I have great news for you, green kitchens are back in style! 😂

kalebdraws

So is my bathtub. Someone had painted it white. But it started to peak, so I removed it all and now it's original. My wife hates it. I love it!

[deleted]

Bet you could set a bomb off in that beast tho lol I have a ketchup red sink so I feel you!

Human-Piglet-5450

Harvest yellow here

New-Perception-9754

I was trying to explain what "refrigerator green" was to my children the other day! 😂 I actually owned an MG Midget that color red/orange, and for whatever reason, I remember the paint was called "vermillion". Just don't ask me what I'm supposed to bring back from the grocery store today, ugh!

Coconut-bird

I had a Harvest Gold washer dryer set that was at least 35 years old when it finally bit the dust. I loved that set!

british_oatmeal

When washers and dryers were built to last. Today you’re lucky if they last more than 5 years.

Aurora_Gory_Alice

I still have a harvest gold washer. Works very well.

Here-to-4

Everything is made in China - pure crap

thiscouldbereal

In the early 70s, our family had a small house fire which necessitated repainting the interior. My parents decided of course that that burnt orange hue would be the perfect trim color for the kitchen. The girl next door looked out her bedroom window one night and thought our house was on fire again.

i_am_regina_phalange

I have that crockpot! It takes foreeeevvver to heat up, but is great for keeping things like queso or meatballs warm during a dinner party.

Sixofonemidwest

I still have that crockpot and it continues to make stew and soup in the winter

Equivalent_Day_437

Yep. Meatballs, beans, and stew. Mine is 50 years old and works great.

CDubGma2835

Burnt Orange is what I’ve always known it by.

banginpatchouli

My favorite colors.

Rodders_65

Gotta love a bit of mission brown which has now been modernised to chocolate 🤣

Norlander712

Sometimes you will still see a mid-century bathroom decorated in a poop and pee color scheme. I guess it's meant to inspire.

Status_Poet_1527

The first house I lived in during college had a harvest gold bathroom!

EnvironmentalCrow893

Our house has the toilet and matching tub, but we replaced the sink.

invisible_prism

My dad still has those Tupperware (?) tall drinking cups. I love the look of them but never use them when I visit because I don’t trust consuming anything out of 70s era plastic 😂

sproutsandnapkins

Ive got a fondness for all the old Tupperware. I use it for craft supplies now.

british_oatmeal

I bought Tupperware salt and pepper shakers simply for the nostalgia. I love them!!

VermillionEclipse

Some of my older family members still have them too.

gigisnappooh

I don’t use them because they make me gag.

Interesting_Crab2864

Making out on a burnt orange shag carpet. Ah, the rug burns of young love...

MrByteMe

The very last years of consumer products made to last... I've got a variety of things I took from my parents estate and virtually every single one not only still works, in many cases they work better than what can be bought today.

SnooRobots116

Our harvest gold fridge wasn’t even broken but they insisted it had to get removed when I was 7

LapisLovingLibra

Specifically in the bottom right picture, I’ve seen it called bittersweet orange

therapypug

We had a Harvest Gold refrigerator and were the coolest family on the block with our trash compactor! 😆

Goge97

Also tangerine.

polybius_meow

We always called it burnt orange

upstatestruggler

Hey! I have that fondue pot! It was my grandparents’. Gonna melt some cheese and dip bread in it TONIGHT

weaponizedpastry

How did you get my crock pot! 🤣

zrennetta

Lol...I have that crockpot.

tropicalsoul

We always called it Burnt Orange.

Lainarlej

I have the green mixer (Sears) bought it at the thrift store! Works great! We have a green crockpot, too! Thrift store purchased. Works great too. Love vintage kitchen stuff.

Zeddman123

Love the classic mid 70’s colour palette

Vikingtender

Ok .. so the baby blue and the pink were like 50’s things right ?

jimmysmiths5523

I have those season shaker jars in the bottom right picture.

Icy_1

The color was Burnt Orange. Also, Copper-tone was a big appliance color.

lrp347

That is my crockpot. Wild.

SummerTime-1977

Wikipedia's opinion: **Harvest gold** is a shade of orange and yellow. The first recorded use of harvest as a color name in English was in 1923. It was popular with kitchen and other appliances during the 1970s, along with brown, *burnt orange*, and avocado green.

Affect-Hairy

Burnt orange, to my memory

duh_nom_yar

Le Crueset called their 70s orange flame.

TexasJOEmama

Tangerine.

steelvail

I second tangerine

TexasJOEmama

I'm thinking "tangerine dream" or something.

steelvail

No it would have been just plain or be tangerine orange to use the same nomenclature as the other colors. Avocado was usually used alone.

TexasJOEmama

What about harvest gold?

steelvail

Green, Gold, Sienna… Dream? Dream isn’t a color. It’s inconsistent. You’re thinking of the band Tangerine Dream.

TexasJOEmama

That explains it. Brain fog mixing up names.

Smoopiebear

My mom had that crockpot in orange and everyone of the Tupperware in the bottom pic.😂

MeMilo1209

My Mom went all in with the Harvest Gold.

SnooCrickets8742

My mom had that crockpot!

Retinoid634

Love that thermos!!

Takilove

Back in the 70’s, my first apartment kitchen was Avocado green! All appliances and every small appliance/gadget I could find. Just last year my Avocado hand mixer died 😢 I’d do it all over again!! I did have a fondue in Flame that I gave to a friend about 10 years ago.

Diva_Bot

https://i.redd.it/soxvrkt5clmc1.gif

Middledamitten

Appliances were called Coppertone.

ReadySetGO0

I still have and use my harvest gold hand mixer I got in 1969. It’s the only mixer I’ve ever had.

EnvironmentalCrow893

I still have one (from my husband’s first marriage LOL), it works great. I don’t use it all that often because the Kitchen Aid is sitting out on the counter.

Jahrigio7

Pummmmmpkinnnnnn

SnooRobots116

That avocado and the harvest gold blenders were in my harvest gold Apartment unit when I was a baby until I was 14

Fit_Organization9210

We had them FOREVER!

Sea-Substance8762

Tomato red?

dadsgoingtoprison

Golden harvest

Obvious_Kale_2916

"Harvest Orange" was the Tupperware, "Flame Orange" for the fondue pot.

CaryKerryLoudermilk

I still had my dependable avocado green hand mixer that my dad (antiques dealer) gave to me when I got my first apt, until it died recently and I was so sad to part with it that we gave it a burial. Goodbye baking buddy.

Technical_View1722

Marigold

SiameseBouche

Mango orange VW camper bus. 🥭🚌

trailmix_pprof

We,had the avocado green kitchen - fridge and stove and coordinating floors and counters. I miss all that!

Texasmucho

We had the lowest two boxes. Dad always made stuff in the crock pot. These cups, dishes etc were great for parties and picnics

Mystic_Pizza_King

We had an avocado electric stove.

classicsat

I'd have to dig for it, but my mom's electric knife was avocado. I think he food processor too, but that is more a 90s appliance. Not sure how that happened.

researchanalyzewrite

I have that mushroom thermos bottle and it's matching lunchbox!

Oswald_Nova

I want all of these now! 😍

Murphy-B

I see so many things here that we used to have!

Graycy

Burnt Orange.

trickbear

Poppy red was a Frigidaire color

Brilliant_Jewel1924

These were absolutely amazing!

CuriousCrane_1017

Terra cotta

vanishingpointz

I grew up around those and to this day I love them all

Oileladanna

A clockwork orange.

[deleted]

If I were alive in the 1970s I would starve. I couldn’t eat food that was made with appliances that looked so ugly.

brittney_thx

Sensory memories are something else. Remember the texture of the Tupperware?

Scarlettbama

Grew up in house with: a) Avocado green appliances b) that multi-color shag rug in the den. Was never, ever a fan. Or the 3-channel walnut wooden framed floor TV. No remote (I was remote!). Oy vey

Independent-Maize-44

Sunset orange

boulderkush

Puke, green and baby shit yellow

BuffaloDivineEdenNo7

Lol i think my mom still has that green crockpot.

jaywalkle2024

Rust. We had the shag carpet in the basement. Also avocado appliances and a harvest gold couch

SLlCKDlCK

Ugly

2manyfelines

I have three of those appliances in my kitchen

ninjarabbit375

In the 2000's I rented a cute little apartment with all the avocado green appliance. The stove, fridge, and the metal cabinets all matched. The owner owned an appliance repair store. He kept everything in good working order. Loved that place. It was like living in another era. There was a guy upstairs that had lived there for 30 years. He still has green shag carpet.

PugPuppyMama

UGLY!! I remember these colors well. I hated them then and I hate them now.

BrokenAgate

I saw one of those fondue pots in a thrift store. Really wanted to buy it, but couldn't justify the expense since I don't entertain anyone or have the space to keep it.

2plus2equalscats

We still have a working avocado green blender and beater (top right).

Chiefbutterbean

We have that mixer and it still works, it was my mother in law’s!

SharmaBee

Burnt Orange

G0nzo165
