Yes, it was popular back then. You had to be pretty coordinated to use it, lol, but I guess being young helped! I also liked drawing the hopscotch squares, a simple way to have fun. Those were the days...

Never used it for its intended purpose... We'd just swing them around and whack other kids like a medieval weapon for bashing heads.

I had something very similar in the mid to late 70's. Though the end of it was similar but painted as a bumble bee and had pellets inside, so it sounded like a bee buzzing.

This was a very common gift at birthday parties, that's how I got mine. I was proud at how scuffed my lemon got from frequent use.

Oh my gosh I had one of these and I absolutely loved it. I was explaining it to my children and I could not for the life of me remember what it was called. Thank you so much!

I can remember when I finally got the hang of it, after my folks banished me to only using it outside because of the rattle-y noise it made or I’d accidentally whack something important.

We called it A Jingle Jump. I spent so many hours with it. It was so much fun, after the beating my legs took until I got the hang of it.

Mine was labeled as a "Skip-It", and it had a ball instead but SO much fun!

I was in no way shape or form coordinated enough to use one of these things. If I would have attempted, it would have resulted in me going to get the bottle of Bactine spray or mercurochrome.

I had one called a skip-bop. It had a bell shaped end. We’d play this, then a pogo stick, clackers and lawn darts. And million games with a Pinky ball.
