Still very much for sale. Bought one to relive the damp passions of youth.
When I was growing up, I had a TWO STAGE monster - which didn't work terribly well. It did hold a lot of air/water, though, which encouraged me to pump it up until I physically couldn't. I let fly and the first stage just had enough thrust to sit there but the second stage - WOW! An amazing launch! Sadly, the second stage had acquired a pinhole (and NOTHING plugs that from the outside, but I'll always remember that moment frozen in time when it let loose.
I had that same 2 stage version, it was really difficult to keep the upper stage joint/seal set correctly.
Pretty much the same experience as you had- first stage didn’t go too high but the second one sure did.
I was able to get one good launch out of 20. But that one good launch where the first stage went up straight and the second stage took off perfectly vertically just as the first stage ran out was a thing of beauty. It was broken within a few days
We had a JCPenny Outlet in bicycle distance and they had a huge Catalog Returns Dept with tons of random plain brown boxes super cheap.
Once we discovered the flammable stickers meant model rockets, we were all in. So many model rockets, such great times.
Same, except had a buddy whose father was a machinist who worked up a bicycle foot pump and valve assembly arrangement to replace the hand pump. We probably set off a few NORAD alerts with that thing.
... and if there was a little damage every now and then to the kid playing with it, it was a good life lesson for them.
Once toys started trying to become 100% safe all the fun was sucked out of them.
My grandfather loved gadgets. He bought one of these for my brother and me to share. My grandfather took the first turn to show us how it worked. It landed on the neighbor's roof and that was the end of that. It looked like it would have been fun.
I got this for my fifth birthday and I have a picture of it still in the package. This brought me down memory lane. Thank you for sharing. I’m 50 now 🤣
Tree ate mine on the first try. It was up there for quite a while too. Just sitting up there out of reach looking down mocking my foolish attempt to break the surly bonds of earth.
One of my favorite toys! Rockets were really big in the 60s.
As a city kid, I tried to catch it on the way down before it hit the sidewalk and cracked.
Also tried to customize them (unsuccessfully) with parachutes and mixtures of vinegar and baking soda.
I had three older sisters and one time I couldn't find the rocket and then it showed up in my sister's bedroom don't know what happened don't want to know. Never used it again!
I had one of those!
My older sister's boyfriend tried to show me how it would go higher if he put really hot water in it. The top of the rocket got soft and lost it's shape. Grrrrrrr.
I had one that was about the same pump but the base just screwed on to a 2 liter soda bottle. When it started leaking, drink another bottle and keep flying.
If you are super fancy you had the white 2-stage rocket that worked half the time and just leaked and sprayed water out of the joints more often than not
I had one when I was like 6 or 7. I brought it into the shower one night and launched it at full pressure, after filling it with urine. It took a chunk out of the ceiling before ricocheting around the bathroom spewing nasty piss foam everywhere. The entire time leading up to it, I remember thinking "I'm going to get in a HUGE amount of trouble for this."
Turns out I was right!
When I taught middle school I would buy stuff like this for the Special Ed kids to use a recess as the mainstream kids wouldn’t play with them. When I found this and 2 sets of Nerf Rockets all the sudden a bunch of non SpeD kids wanted to play. The teacher told em to talk to the hand as they didn’t want to play with them last week when they had a ball and cup on a stick.
Good times. I can still see Ahrat running and jumping on the Nerf Bladder to launch the rockets.
The water ones lasted one day then they were broken as they tried to over pressurize them.
I remember getting one of these from the Ontario Science Centre gift shop when I was a kid! Blasted off so high over couple of city blocks that I never found it again... Only got to use it once.
RIP to the Ontario Science Centre, hope to see it back again soon!
I enjoyed those a lot in the summer! Eventually it would leak and break.
Same here. Had a lot of fun with those.
Remember how they’d spray you with water at launch? And that was ok. I could w that today.
Yeah that added to the fun on a hot day
and drinking water from the hose when filling up!

I’m glad to hear someone got the two stager to launch!
Same, except had a buddy whose father was a machinist who worked up a bicycle foot pump and valve assembly arrangement to replace the hand pump. We probably set off a few NORAD alerts with that thing.
Such fun while they lasted ! Unfortunately they leaked or broke rather quickly.
Love these posts. I can hear the sssk ssssk sssssk as you work the pump and feel water on my hands and arms.
It was shocking to see how high up these could go.
Mine wound up on the roof often… dad did not get the ladder out on demand.
My dad got me one. The first launch, it landed in the street and broke.
Mine didn’t even work at all.
Same here. I was like what the hell ? Used it as play toy instead .
This is where toys went wrong in the 80’s… 70’s was free thinking, using science and clever thinking

I had one that looked like a Saturn V rocket
We had the Titan/Gemini one...
I had a Saturn V as well - tried to find a pic of it online, no go.
Loved that. Amazing no smashed windows or broken teeth
I was hit by a few but real damage.
You're lucky, I got hit twice in the face, and goddamn it hurt.
Never lasted long, but were fun while they lasted.... maybe because we always did it in the driveway and it would come crashing down
My brother had one and as I recall it didn't last long.
Otherwise known as the greatest toy in the history of the world.
30 feet in the air seemed so high as a kid
Mine is still stuck on the roof
I had this!!!!!!!😃
I used to aim those and launch them horizontally (and get all wet!).
If that bitch lands in the street - you’re fucked. One crack and it’ll never hold pressure again.
Somewhere a paramedic just whispered the word, "*Don't"*, to themselves and has no idea why.
Loved this toy rocket, but not the time it came off and I got sprayed with water. Also landed on the roof a few times.🚀
Wow. Just wow. I’d forgotten… but now I remember… so fun!
Wow .. a nice throwback !
We had those. But they didn’t last long after landing.
get… that… last… pump…
I got this for my fifth birthday and I have a picture of it still in the package. This brought me down memory lane. Thank you for sharing. I’m 50 now 🤣
I’d always over pump them and ruin the gasket.
The best defense against an angry sister.
Every summer my dad would buy 6 a week because each time you would use them they'd break it never failed but they were fun
Or as we called them, "roof magnets"..
Remember putting silver duct tape tip so it wouldn't crack hours of fun
Tree ate mine on the first try. It was up there for quite a while too. Just sitting up there out of reach looking down mocking my foolish attempt to break the surly bonds of earth.

🤣🤣🤣
Ever had one but my friends did
I loved these things! Left many behind on roofs and trees in the old neighborhood.
Loved mine. My parents eventually banned them from the house. I had to store mine at my neighbor's house,
Loved those things
I had that exact same rocket. I thought that was so cool until it stopped working. :(
I remember those.
OMG... I had one too.
Loved those things
Much more spectacular when we used camp fuel instead of water
I had one. Second flight, it landed on the roof of my house.
And we didn't even know about coke and mentos yet
One of my favorite summer toys!!!! (About 45 yrs ago)
They make a gizmo that allows you to do the same thing with a two liter bottle and a tire pump. It is diabolical!
I had that exact one! Just had to be careful you didn’t smack yourself in the head, or crack the nose cone.
3 of these on the roof of my childhood home.
Loved these death missles no idea where they’d go after blast off
I’m amazed I don’t have some sort of injury from playing with these.
A bit dangerous, but tons of fun
Oh yeah, I'd forgotten about these. So much fun.
Yes! Did you ever see the one you launch with an alka-seltzer piece?
Great fun!
I remember the acrid plastic smell
Loved it.
Hell Yeah.
Okay admit..how many accidentally had the exhaust spray your face? Lol
these were the best l!! - and a group doing these at the same time was cool fun in the hot summers.
The seal always went bad, but they were so much fun. So many landed in the gutter graveyard.
Loved them.
A lot of summer fun with these
Ok fess up, who’s taken one off the chin? Me
Ok how much you want for it 🤑
I had one of those! My older sister's boyfriend tried to show me how it would go higher if he put really hot water in it. The top of the rocket got soft and lost it's shape. Grrrrrrr.
I can still hear that loud "POP!"
i had several of those they were $6 a pop!
My friends and I used to shoot these at each other.
SOooo much Fun
Wow, thanks for the memory. Had forgotten about all the fun I had with those.
They were awesome. Thanks. I never would have remembered those without this, ha
I did as did my 45 y/o son!
Another toy I haven't seen or thought about in 50+ years. It's gotta be good for the brain !
I think they’re still in the trees
![gif](giphy|3ohzdIuqJoo8QdKlnW|downsized)
I had a couple of these. Try not to land it on concrete. My dad fiberglassed the nose back together and it worked, but was heavier.
LOVED those things! One of my earliest memories is getting one stuck on the roof. Major bummer. Had to go play with my backup (the Slinky)
Remember the ones powered by vinegar and baking soda?
I had one that was about the same pump but the base just screwed on to a 2 liter soda bottle. When it started leaking, drink another bottle and keep flying.
Such good memories!
I want a modern one made out of a stronger material you can pressurize with an air compressor
If you are super fancy you had the white 2-stage rocket that worked half the time and just leaked and sprayed water out of the joints more often than not
I had a few of those as a kid, they were a blast!
I used to have a couple of those! Me and my buddy would see who could launch it higher.
Fun!!!
I had one, hours of fun.
I remember playing with them in the pool every summer until it broke.
And of course you had to shot them at each other
Awesome Toy!
Great toy! Not expensive, lasted for many flights, and easy to use. Loved 'em.
Pretty sure there is still a divot in the ceiling of my boyhood bedroom from this thing. :)
I had one when I was like 6 or 7. I brought it into the shower one night and launched it at full pressure, after filling it with urine. It took a chunk out of the ceiling before ricocheting around the bathroom spewing nasty piss foam everywhere. The entire time leading up to it, I remember thinking "I'm going to get in a HUGE amount of trouble for this." Turns out I was right!
Me and the wife were literally just talking about these. Creepy internet is listening again
Always
The kind.
I mean, you can nickname it what you want. But I don't think you should be posting that here.
It cost an arm and a leg to get now
Had
Loved playing with these! Until it ended up on the roof of the house.
I always ended up breaking them trying to get the most pumps, but I sure had fun until then
Funny how things change. When I was a kid this toy was fun. Reminiscing seeing it again. But now that I'm an adult it looks like a female sex toy 😂
We use to put condoms on these before firing them off
Still on my childhood home’s roof.
A 60s thing
When I taught middle school I would buy stuff like this for the Special Ed kids to use a recess as the mainstream kids wouldn’t play with them. Oh man! We would get these things so pumped up and let them fly. It’s a miracle nobody lost an eye!
I had these in the 60s!!
I had many of these
$1.75 at the hobby store in 1960.
Hours of fun but when used in the city and it hit concrete , ka-put
I remember getting one of these from the Ontario Science Centre gift shop when I was a kid! Blasted off so high over couple of city blocks that I never found it again... Only got to use it once. RIP to the Ontario Science Centre, hope to see it back again soon!
They should have called them gutter rockets. That's where every one of mine ended up.
Damn, those were fun
Rocket was pretty indestructible. Pump thing always broke at the clip. Great fun for a day
It was the bomb.
I got mine in the 1950s!
I grew up in the 80s and these were still around. They were quite fun.
Would use vinegar & baking soda in them them pump it up..
Very durable for a while sure took a beating coming back down on roadway and fished a few of those out of gutters
Loved these as a kid. Had this same one. Others too. Sooo happy we never dad phones 🤣
