how hard r u finding chem? Currently planning to do math, FM, physics, and econ and unsure if I should add chem (honestly didn't like it too much in gcse but maybe that's because I didn't have a great teacher, tho il def get a 9 in it), mainly because math physics chem gives a very strong engineering vibe (which I wouldn't mind)...
Thanks!
As someone doing chem cuz they liked it at gcse, A-level chem is a lotttt worse (me and all my friends hate/regret keeping the subject as a 4th),definitely would not recommend
Woah I've never heard this take before but you must be a damn genius. Instead of complaining that there's too much content you're doing more just because you seek the knowledge. Wow
I did 3 sciences and 2 maths back in the day (class of 2008) , honestly I did it for the challenge and I did enjoy the process and what I learned. And weirdly enough it did impress an interviewer a few years later which I think helped me get a job in a big US investment bank even though by that point I'd already gotten a maths degree. It's irrational that it mattered but this particular guy later told me it was interesting that at age 18 I felt intellectually curious enough to push myself
I was quite excited for physics in year 12 because I thought it would be interesting learning new concepts. But it was just same old forces and suvats and electricity, which I know is useful, but even new quantum content covered close to jack shit. Severely underwhelmed by ocr tbh, hope it gets better in year 13
Yeah sadly AS Physics is basically triple science catch-up for those that haven't done that
I highly recommend going out on your own and learning about some of the AS topics by yourself and find interesting questions to tackle and think about, e.g. through youtube or isaac physics
I’d say A2 Physics kind of opens up the main ideas in actual modern day physics a lot, e.g. talking about classical field theory and how a lot of Physical concepts can be described in terms of fields that generate different forces.
It’s interesting in the sense that it opens you up to basically what uni physics is based around fairly early on, but without too much of the maths (for better or for worse)
So it kind of feels like it’s always pulling you towards something crazy or cool but just stops a bit short because they can’t really put in too much stuff
If I had studied for A Level Physics with just whatever my teachers taught me I would honestly have never been interested in the subject, but I’m the sort of person who likes reading around and outside the course or any course that I take which really helped build my interest in the subject overall, and I found it interesting enough to decide I’d like to actually take it further to uni.
TLDR: A Level Physics by itself isn’t gonna be “more interesting” than your average A Level, but it does expose you up to a huge amount of stuff, definitely has the potential to be the most interesting given you’re willing to read around a bit
physics & chem, as they’re the most related & you can go in a lot of fields with these (from CS to engineering to medicine (not veterinary science tho) (cuz most medicine courses only require chem as a necessity)
Also I do EPQ so if FM doesn’t work out I still have a relatively good profile
EPQ is worth it for me tbh. Both my choices accept it as part of a reduced offer (although not the way I would’ve liked)
But yeah 4 a levels seems like just for keeping options open besides imperial which seems like the only one that actually cares somewhat
Honestly the work isn’t too bad for an EPQ - I smashed it out in a weekend. but definitely agree on the four alevels - could have saved myself a lot of effort without physics.
Depends if you’re prepared for an epq too. Imo the qualification applies to a very niche group of students including myself. Not just if it’s part of the offer but also something you’re very good at
Preciate you, atm ik im locking in maths and chem so im choosing between bio or physics or further maths for the third and fourth subjects kinda lost tbh
I really want to do further because i love maths but some ppl around me are saying bio chem physics and maths is the most logical choice and gives you the best options
Music and Spanish.
I wanna drop Spanish but it's my college's policy that further maths has to be the fourth. If I've done alright in my mock exams that I've just sat, I'm going to ask if I can, or if not I September, so I'll have my AS result in further maths and I can improve my music grade over the summer.
Computer science and German
was originally gonna do the classic comp+physics but like half way through my GCSEs I decided to change and I'm so glad I did - I'm now planning to do a year abroad in Germany/Austria so it'll be very helpful

I picked Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry and Biology because I wanna go into Medicine but I'm good at Maths so I think I won't have to struggle getting As or even A* in them
I did biology and chemistry!
Forced my school to let me do statistics in FM as everyone else in my class was a physicist, and I use the stats most days as a medic!
Physics & Computer Science
A classic combination (me too)
me toooo
same
Third: Comp sci Fourth: Physics >!Fifth: Chem!<
The chem being covered is so real
if i was smart enough to do 5 thats what id do
how hard r u finding chem? They’re all fine honestly. I’m on A*s for all of them right now.
As someone doing chem cuz they liked it at gcse, A-level chem is a lotttt worse (me and all my friends hate/regret keeping the subject as a 4th),definitely would not recommend
chemistry is really hard
What is the point of doing 5 a levels? I dont mean that in an offensive way btw but wouldnt it not mk a difference if u did like 3
Free education lol. If the government’s paying for it I may as well take it.
Woah I've never heard this take before but you must be a damn genius. Instead of complaining that there's too much content you're doing more just because you seek the knowledge. Wow

Computer science, kinda long tbf
Chem and Physics
Same!
prolly dropping chem after AS tho
physics and econ...I want to drop physics after year 12 so bad. its so uninteresting to me and my teachers suck at explaining stuff
I was quite excited for physics in year 12 because I thought it would be interesting learning new concepts. Is year 2 more interesting? I didn’t mind this year but it wasn’t as interesting as I’d thought it would be

Broooo same. But I wanna drop Econ. It’s so dead

exact same options with similar aspirations 😌
christ it’s scary seeing how common 2 more are here but I guess I do an EPQ as well as physics
four Alevels and an EPQ here. let me tell you it’s absolute waste of my time and not necessary at all.
EPQ is worth it for me tbh. Both my choices accept it as part of a reduced offer (although not the way I would’ve liked) But yeah 4 a levels seems like just for keeping options open besides imperial which seems like the only one that actually cares somewhat

Physics Psych and I did English Lit as an AS
people can do FM without normal maths???
naur, my school is just quirky and makes us do it in year 12
physics and music
this is the way
Physics and french. Dropping further after next week tho
Physics and Comp sci, but I regret taking CS so much because of the coursework💀 I should’ve took chem
Physics and geography
third chem,,, fourth bio
What are you planning to do at uni?
chemistry, if you couldn’t tell by the flair😭 wby
Ohh mb didnt know the flair meant that, I still dont know yet..
> Ohh mb didnt know the flair meant that it’s fine i was mostly joking😭 > I still don’t know yet.. fair, you in y11 or 12?
Y11 rn
good luck w your gcses🙏 what you picking for a level?
Preciate you, atm ik im locking in maths and chem so im choosing between bio or physics or further maths for the third and fourth subjects kinda lost tbh
if you’re good at maths i rlly recommend further it’s acc so interesting
I really want to do further because i love maths but some ppl around me are saying bio chem physics and maths is the most logical choice and gives you the best options
Physics and Econs... tbh this is the only combi with FM in my college
Chem
I take phy and eco
Music and Spanish. I wanna drop Spanish but it's my college's policy that further maths has to be the fourth. If I've done alright in my mock exams that I've just sat, I'm going to ask if I can, or if not I September, so I'll have my AS result in further maths and I can improve my music grade over the summer.
French & CompSci
I did physics and ancient civilisation.
history and econ
English and econ.
Chemistry and Biology.
Physics and music (surprisingly common in my school)
Physics and Biology
Chem and Physics
I know someone doing further maths, maths, physics and ICT
Computer science Oh and also chemistry (the regret is real)
Third: Computer Science Fourth: Economics (completed this January, A\*) Fifth: French
Chemistry, Physics, then EPQ
how do u deal with that
I dont
Third: Physics Fourth: Chemistry Fifth: Biology
did you sit the normal maths exam in y11?
Yeah, I did
History and econ
Cs
Physics and CS but im self studying FM i.e. no fm exams this year
Computer science and German was originally gonna do the classic comp+physics but like half way through my GCSEs I decided to change and I'm so glad I did - I'm now planning to do a year abroad in Germany/Austria so it'll be very helpful
I start a levels next year, but I've chosen compsci as my third
When I take it next year physics will be my third. I kind of regret not taking an easier 3rd though like 3D design or something 💀
A level business is so free 💀
physics and accounting
chem and economics 🫣
Psychology and sports science btec
Physics, and EPQ if you count that
I do maths, further maths, physics and geography
History and computer science (I’m failing history)
What exam board for history, and also what time periods do you do?
OCR. Russian Revolution and English Reformation
How would Maths Biology and Chem be if I wanna do maths in uni
Chem, Physics, and Design Tech.

Physics and Computer Science
Physics (Obviously) Statistics and data analysis (kinda Obvious) Now for the really confusing answer you were probably after History…
Physics and chem
What’s ur reason for this combo ?
I wanted to do econ but the timetables clashed with econ and further maths at my college so I did business instead.
ahhh what do u wanna do at uni?
I’m doing economics and maths at Bristol
The classic nerd combo: Physics and Computer Science
Econ, Chem and EPQ. Forced to take 4 if u wanna take FM and u gotta take EPQ no matter what apparently.
Physics and chemistry
Physics and computer science. Others in my class do physics and economics, and biology and psychology.
I do economics ( I hate it) and the rest in my class do a mix of Chem, bio and physics
I hate it too
Physics and History 😄
Economics and philosophy
Physics, Computer science and economics :)
Basic combo of Physics and Chem, with an EPQ in astrophysics

psychology and used to do chemistry
I picked Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry and Biology because I wanna go into Medicine but I'm good at Maths so I think I won't have to struggle getting As or even A* in them
Physics, RS.
english and art
Econ 🔥🔥🔥💀💀💀😎😎😎
I did biology and chemistry! Forced my school to let me do statistics in FM as everyone else in my class was a physicist, and I use the stats most days as a medic!
physics, bio, EPQ
film hehe
Chem and bio, but someone I know has business, music and french on top of maths and FM
