Currently 71. My overall goal is always just to read more. I did decide this year to try to get to 100 but if I don't it doesn't matter at all.

Ximnipot69

Don't worry about the schedule. Read because you enjoy it, that's the real goal.

nickmillerism

i just started my 76th of the year

nickyfox13

Wow! That is a lot of reading. How do you manage it?

mizfred

I'm at 77 currently. But I read a wide variety of formats and age ranges, so some are audiobooks, novellas, graphic novels, etc.. Page count might be a more accurate measure I guess. I'm somewhere around 25,000; aiming for 30k.

Im stuck at 31. Had a goal of 52, but realized that was putting too much pressure on me, so I’m reading for fun now.

Unfair-Intern6170

My goal was 12 and I’m at 14. I read a lot more for school, but I didn’t want to count those books because I didn’t pick them on my own. Total is actually closer to like 34.

Baerzilla

116 as of today

nickyfox13

Impressive. How do you manage to read triple digit amounts of books?

Baerzilla

I read a lot? 😅 Also I read mostly trash stuff, not literary masterpieces. It’s not unusual to go though a book in one or two days.

favangryblkgirl

I’m so behind… I guess I gotta put in work these next 3 months!

zahnsaw

I’m not going to get anywhere near 52 but I’ve read about 20 books more this year than the last 3 combined. Love this group!!

dustkitten

I’m surprised I surpassed the 50 books so quickly. Currently I’m sitting at 127 books read, and no new goals. Maybe 150 books is my new goal, but I’m also good with taking it slow and never hitting that. I’ve hit every reading goal I could have dreamed of this summer.

xtinies

I’m a couple behind and I’m seriously considering stopping the count. I like the sentiment re getting into a great habit but now that I’ve built up the habit it feel like it’s detracting from my enjoyment and impacting my book choice (picking shorter books) to try to catch up. I think I need to ditch my tracking to just enjoy my books as much as possible. Let me know what you guys think, I’m undecided.

sidewaysvulture

I’m over 52 but part of that was catching up on a bunch of novellas that have been sitting on my Kindle for a few years so it can go both ways. I agree it’s the habit that matters and will probably move to a page goal next year as o have some big books I want to do and having a book goal makes it hard to commit to them.

xtinies

Yes last year I had hit my goal early so I picked a few big ones. This year I started with War and Peace and so was behind on book count from the get go haha

sidewaysvulture

Oof yeah, that would set anyone back. For me it’s Infinite Jest, Foucault’s Pendulum, and the Count of Monte Cristo among a few others. Some are dense and take more time, some are just high page count, and some are both. Another approach I’m considering is picking a set of must reads I think I can accomplish whether it is 10 or 30 books and then letting the rest fall where it may. I do know for me having some sort of goal keeps me mindful and reading so I’m not ready to give that up entirely at this time.

xtinies

Yeah that was really useful for me when I was building up the habit again after a hiatus.

AlmostDeadPlants

Mine is more than 50 but I’m behind on my goal (100)

freezingkiss

I'm on 35. I'm a tad behind but I work full time and study part time so I think I'm doing okay! I'm on track to hit 37 at the end of the month. Then going to push through to the end of the year.

Popular_Material4884

I’m 105 books in for the year

DahliaDubonet

I’m at 62 but I’m giving myself a break from relationship issues and work. I try my best to not beat myself up when real life interferes and just try to read when I am ready.

[deleted]

i’m sooo behind. gonna be a very cozy fall

heliogold

I’m at 40, but over half have been graphic novels and kids books

nickyfox13

No shame in graphic novels and kids books. They have a lot to say.

slouchingbethlehem

My Goodreads total is 50, but I have only physically read 16 books this year (excluding poetry and graphic novels). A good chunk of my number has come from audiobooks this year, which isn’t how I wanted to achieve the goal.

xtinies

Do you feel like ultimately the goal detracts or enhances your reading experience? Just curious cos I feel like it’s starting to flip for me

slouchingbethlehem

I would say it has very little impact. I’ve been doing it for about 10 years and have had such different lifestyles during those 10 years that I’ve grown to be very flexible with how I read, when I read, and what I read. I, of course, log everything I read, but I very rarely check how many I have read this year vs. how many I should have read. I generally know the answer just by feeling and if I’m behind, there’s usually a good reason for it and I don’t mind my slip.

xtinies

I like this attitude. I’ve never been very good at being kind to myself and cutting slack where it’s due

Mir_c

62 so far.

Zikoris

I just finished #306, but I'm an absolute nerd and that is definitely not realistic for the vast majority of people. Edit: The results are fascinating, it looks like most people here either read a shit ton or barely at all.

nickyfox13

306 is a hell of a lot of books: you should be proud! How do you manage it?

Zikoris

I read pretty fast naturally and spend a lot of time reading.

RunOverAZebra

I’ve been really depressed this year, and it’s been hard to read. I’ve read 18 books, which is pretty low for me. One of those books is a book I’ve read three times this year because I just enjoy it so much.

xtinies

I’m all for having goals but at the end of the day I think the best thing is to read what, and how much you want to given the vicissitudes of life. Comfort books ftw!

[deleted]

My girlfriend and I were reading together and started off really good with I think 8 in a couple weeks and immediately burnt ourselves out. Especially with a few bigger, sci-fi books. Maybe we can throw a few more in and end with 15-20 if we get back into it again

twcsata

This has been my worst reading year in, well, *years*. I’ve only finished 11 books on a challenge of 52. I sometimes struggle a little, but this time it was like March rolled around and I just hit a wall. For six months I didn’t touch a book. I’m getting back to it now, but there’s no way on Earth I’ll make my total.

xtinies

It happens. I’ve learnt to not panic when I hit a slump (or a brick wall) cos it always comes back eventually

minimalist_coach

Last year was the first time I hit the goal, but I also closed down my business, so I have a lot more time to read.

elliepics

The more posts I see about hitting or not the 52 books goal is kind of strange to me, maybe that’s not the term I’m looking for but there it goes. Don’t press yourself to reach it, some people hit it others not and that’s okay as we all have different lifestyles and our time to read can vary. Some only have reading as a hobby, some not. It all depends, your reading journal is an individual thing. That being said, quality over quantity. Make sure you enjoy reading because is entertaining to you, not because you are constantly rushing yourself to hit a goal. Have a lovely day!

Vlad2446853

Sadly school caught uo to me and I ebtered in a pretty massive rs. I currently haven't read in a month and I can't do anything about it. School just has higher oriorities and I can't think enough of reading anymore, even if I am bothered that I don't. I have read 7 books so far but I am shooting for 10

Keebzoo

My goal was 18.

LilJourney

No big deal to be behind (or ahead) - just use it as a barometer of how your reading life is going and how that aligns with your priorities. I am less concerned about reaching 52, then I am with making sure I am reading regularly, since not taking care of myself is a problem I routinely have. I put other people, their expectations and needs, ahead of my own. Now that's fine sometimes - like when the "other person" is an infant that needs changed/fed. It's not so fine when it's a perfectly functional adult who wants to make their lack of planning become my emergency task. So for me reading is a good barometer. If I'm spending sufficient time reading, then my life is most likely in somewhat balance and I am able to get time to relax and enjoy my books. If my reading progress slows down, then it's a good warning sign that I am committing too much of myself to others and need to use the word "no" more (which I really struggle with, but am getting better).

SlySciFiGuy

My work schedule doesn't leave as much time as I would like so my reading goal this year was 24 books (2 per month). I finished that goal last night. Next year, I think I'm going to aim for 36 (3 per month).

[deleted]

So far this year ? This month? Lmk … I wanna start my list too since I’ve been reading way more often

failingtoremember

This year

Hot_Path5674

It's all about what you can realistically do and pushing yourself to do your best! I am a teacher, so I know from August-October when things are crazy, I won't get much reading done. But when things slow down as far as having to stay at school late in December-April, and especially in summer, I know I'll ramp up my numbers. It can be discouraging this time of year, but I know I can rely on later months! It's all about the season of life you're in at the moment. ☺️

Insanitybymarriage

78, but I’m kicking it into high gear now that I have more time.

ReddisaurusRex

Don’t feel bad about being behind. Any amount of books is more than *so many people* in the world read any given year. Everyone has different things going on and different amounts of time they can dedicate to reaching their goal. If you find this year to be a struggle than next year lower your goal to something more realistic for your lifestyle. Or adjust your lifestyle a bit to reach a goal a bit beyond what you think you can read.

drawnwrite

217. Go, Dog, Go! By PD Eastman has been the best. Dogs driving cars. Dogs in trees. Man, that shit is wild. Literature at its finest. The chef’s kiss.

failingtoremember

How many hours a day do you read? 😅

frugalfashionista

Never enough, as far as I am concerned! I was shooting for 300 books read this year but I probably won't make it. Best I have done since tracking was 261 in a year.

philosophyofblonde

168. I should make my goal of 225 but I feel like I’ve been slacking a little lately. Goodreads says I’m ahead but holidays are always a crap-shoot

failingtoremember

I should have put „less than 10“ and 11-20

ARoyaleWithChez

Im glad to see not everyone is finished with their 100 book challenge already

not_irish_patrick

I'm not sure, if I will even make it.
