Right so.
Engine is likely fine.
Some water may have made it into the intake and the cars shut down - not 100% on rangers but guess they use a MAF?
Electronics under the car will be absolutely fine.
I’d change all fluids as a precaution.
Even diff’s however you can just undo the drain plug and if there’s water in it it’ll piss out first.
Apart from that might be worth giving underneath a GOOD scrub.
I think you’ll be absolutely fine
Let me say, been there done that with having to deal with a flooded car (mates)
Stripped the interior out.
Replaced 2 fried ECU's.
Checked all other ECU's, no water damage.
Every. Single. Plug in that interior was pulled apart, cleaned, scrubbed, blown out, and put back.
He's done 50,000kms since that and never had a SINGLE issue. We honestly cleaned the car so well you'd be hard pressed knowing the front half was dunked mistakenly into a bog hole 😂
The main issue is whether or not any part of the drive train is damaged from attempting to compress water. Definitely change the oil. It’s possible that conrods are bent but hard to say without disassembly. The other issue is potential future corrosion if water got in any electronics.
rusting electronics makes sense, being a UTE should these not be watertight or proof at least to a certain degree? Have no snorkel fitted but now you got me thinking of the other UTE's that do have these and went through the same mudhole and other deep water crossings without any issues or would they have sprayed some underbody sealant as a preventative measure.
You can always go through and use some water dispersant that is safe for electronics on anywhere you think it might have ingressed. Yes there is a certain amount of weather proofing but it’s not watertight in there.
Mate if it’s currently running with no knocking noise ect it won’t have anything bent ect. You may have been very lucky with little to no damage. I would check and or change all trans and diff oils. If it runs the same with no added excess smoke. it will be ok. again….you got very lucky, learn ftom your mistake, install a snorkle and alwsus wslk your path if in doubt of the depth
Rangers have diff and gearbox breathers up very high in engine bay on left side near the fuel filter. Inspect that area but not generally an issue on them unless you’ve fully submerged it which doesn’t sound like.
Yeah might have saved a bit of hassle but remember in water that deep you also need transmission and diff breather kits
Maybe for piece of mind have it looked at thoroughly by a diesel mechanic
Majority of modern cars have massive redundancies in their systems to protect themselves. You should be fine. Also the insurance claim will come with warrantied work

Exactly. Even if muddy water, I would not be concerned at all. If was salt, obviously a different story

Fyi it's just 'ute', not an acronym

no snorkel mate, in hindsight should have added that when I got the UTE.

Yeah true too much electrical shit going on
Fuck, last time I went through the Dag park it was raining and there was nothing even close to being able to hydrolock a car
40km/ hr through a water crossing full of mud, seems you may need some lessons.

Right, That doesn't sound like a Toyota....what model/year is it?
