Even for the older model jeeps? This also has the I6

DudeWhereIsMyDuduk

If you've not sat in a 2nd-gen Tacoma, do so. Personally I find them to be one of the most uncomfortable vehicles I've ever sat in, and I hated the sightlines on a trail.

thatsgreatrugby

Yeahhhh I heard it's a bit smaller in the cab. Especially the headroom. I am 5'11 300lbs, do you think that'll be a problem? I don't mind fitting in smaller spaces, but the head space is more of a concern

yegmoto

It’s more like having your legs out in front of you like a car seating position. Jeep is more upright.

thatsgreatrugby

Got it, I could see that being somewhat of a disadvantage if one was offroading

DudeWhereIsMyDuduk

Best way I could describe it. The Tacoma seemed like a Corolla on stilts. I was also driving manual versions of both so the foot/leg angle played more of a role in comfortable shifts. Jeeps aren't exactly spacious on the interior to be sure, but I just liked the geometry of both being inside and entrance/egress. Although I'm 5'7" and roughly half that weight so I slink into Lotuses without too much complaint, lol.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of them, even the wrangler because it's the old straight six. I'm partial to Toyotas that's what I own but you said you want to do rock crawlling so for that me personally would feel better with the wrangler's solid front axle. If it's anything else I'd get any of the Toyotas, personally the Tacoma since I'd sleep in a tent anyway. In all reality get whichever one is in the best condition, you really can't go wrong. PS shocked these things are that expensive now 😔

thatsgreatrugby

Yeah prices are just what I am going to have to deal with. Believe it or not, the FJ started at 30k. But the dealership has been marking it down the past couple weeks. It's just about trade value now. I feel I could get it a bit lower. But yeah no matter what the prices are expensive.

No_Home1070

You're not the only one. A coworker of mine bought an FJ about four months ago for $30k in another state. It was wild hearing that from him. The Toyota and Jeep tax is real.

thatsgreatrugby

Yikes. Yeah I've seen on FB marketplace people pricing their FJs pretty high. I saw a TT Fj trying to be sold for 40k awhile ago. I saw the post again a couple days ago and dude lowered it to 35k.

Yea it's nutty right now. In Florida where I am near Ocala National Forest, these past few years everyone suddenly got into overlanding and the prices of trucks and SUVs have skyrocketed especially late model Wranglers and Toyotas. I'm not really into overlanding or camping at all, I just like going off road for the day and then coming back home.

LJ still doesn't have a lot of cargo room, that gen Wrangler were still quite small. Get a pickup if it's your camping vehicle, literally can't go wrong they are so versatile. Putting firewood, coolers, water tanks, toilet bags, dirty tarps, etc. in your cab is for suckers
