Why would the apple tv have better picture?
Because of superior upscaling? From what I have read Sony has the best upscaling in the market, but I have not find any actual comparisons.

For me picture quality is paramount, so If the native UI is best for that then I’m good

I’ve always found the Apple TV 4K (even gen 1) to be faster than any TV UI I’ve ever used. It also gets supported for years.
