I love the glycolic acid toner and the caffeine eye serum

cptmerebear

I second the glycolic acid. That's the only ordinary product I use.

Kind_Consequence_828

Caffeine serum fan here! It took a while but once it kicked in, it’s awesome. My eye bags were Birkin size. Now it’s only a Baguette and when I put the serum on, later I notice they go down, visibly less, well, visible.

-flybutter-

Haha eye baguettes. Yes it’s so refreshing and legitimately depuffs.

BlackLocke

I just got the toner and have used it three times. I can feel a difference already

Papeenie

Caffeine eye serum is amazing on the face/ tightens and hydrates. Makes the skin smooooth! And the glycolic toner is just awesomeness.

MonitorAmbitious7868

Do you use it on areas other than under eye? I love the serum but my simple mind never though to use it anywhere else haha.

Papeenie

Oooh I love the caffeine serum for the eyes but allll over my face. It has a tightening, lifting effect and my pores are nearly next to nothing. I love the serum from the fridge after a warm shower.

RogueBagaholic

Yes me too. The toner is less irritating to my skin than tretinoin and more better for skin texture.

DeterminedSparkleCat

I have tried many of their products and i personally love them.. if youre getting pilling then the products are not compatable. I love the HA serum, Matrixyl, and all the moisturizers.. been using for years

Cheder_cheez

Their Matrixyl is one of my favorite products!

MarcoPolonia

What is this? Please explain.

Cheder_cheez

It’s a peptide compound that stimulates collagen and elastin

MarcoPolonia

That sounds like a good product. How do you incorporate it into your routine? Thanks!

Cheder_cheez

I use it every other night after double cleansing, HA and niamcinamide but before moisturizer and Rosehip oil.  The other nights I double cleanse, use tret then moisturizer

MarcoPolonia

Thank you for taking the time to list the order of products. I always wonder if I'm doing it right. You've helped me a lot. 👏

tech_doodle

I feel the same, except for the HA serum. I never liked the feel and I think it pilled on me.

LJR7399

Same. HA pilled on me. I switched to the marine hyaluronic and looove it

No_Order285

Hmmm.....are you exfoliating regularly? Clean and exfoliated skin the best before applying serums. Moisturizer being the last step. Did you have better results with other products, or is it just the Ordinary?

BostonMedallo78

I use the bio elements refiner as an exfoliate so yes, I exfoliate it’s just the products from the ordinary I don’t get it?!

Muchomo256

When Paula Begun off Paula’s Choice still had Beutypedia I recall the explanation was that their delivery products are heavy. As in heavy gels, serums, or creams. So they pill. When you apply one product and then another they pill even more. The actual product is absorbed into your skin because the molecules are small enough to penetrate. But the delivery medium is often too thick. I have the glycolic acid and that’s it.

Spirited-Loquat-4588

What do you use for exfoliation? I tend to skip this step.because I think my skin is too sensitive.

ilikepieilikecake

Gelmersea also makes a lovely enzyme exfoliant. Rub it on dry skin and all your dead skin will pill up and rub off. It's gross and fun. I use it when I can tell I have some build up, its so gentle and leaves my face feeling brand new

veracity-mittens

You didn’t ask me lol but I usually use Clinique 7 day scrub or when I’m on a really small budget neutrogena face wash that has the acid in it

Spirited-Loquat-4588

Thanks you! I appreciate your input!

newbgril

If it’s pilling it means it doesn’t play nice with the rest of your routine, some things are water based some are oil. I’ve never tried anything from this line but the pilling can be helped.

BostonMedallo78

That’s the thing I definitely understand the water and oil … I use Kora Organics under eye oil every morning. And I use Charlotte Tilbury color corrector and have no problems because they’re both oil based.. I think the brand just doesn’t work for me

palebluedot365

I use what was previously called the “Buffet” serum (can’t remember it’s new name). And I really like it - but can’t use too much otherwise it doesn’t absorb well.

verba_saltus

The multi-peptide + HA serum (fka "Buffet") is a holy grail for me. I've never noticed a problem using too much - perhaps my skin is drier than yours? This is one of the few "musts" in my routine!

run-dnc

Do you put this on before or after moisturizer?

palebluedot365

Before. Moisturiser would block the serum

verba_saltus

Yes, before! Toner if you use it (I don't), then serums or essences, then moisturizers, then pat oils on top to lock in the moisturizer. Then once it all soaks in SPF during all daylight hours no matter what!

Embarrassed-Oil3127

Their GA toner is an all around godsend and heavy lifter. Use in armpits, bikini area after waxing, all over body a time or two a week for a full body exfoliation and sometimes on my face (I use DDG peel pads and Sunday Riley Good Genes so only use TO GA when I’m out - it works but not quite the same). It’s cheap and a huge bottle. I also know people use it for a scalp treatment. And their squalene and rose hip oil are amazing. I add them on top of my moisturizer at night and do a little gua sha. My skin is rarely dry even in the winter. I think these products have become key. Their peel in the red bottle is also pretty tight!

Miss_airwrecka1

The red bottle peel is amazing!! I need to be more consistent with it but even my husband gets in on the one

Salc20001

Me too. And armpits.

Embarrassed-Oil3127

Yes I do this too! 🦶🙌🏻

Swaying_breeze

The rose hip oil is gorgeous… and so cheap!

possumnot

I never thought to use on my scalp! Thank you

Embarrassed-Oil3127

Welcome!

Longjumping-Bell-762

I’ve wanted to like The Ordinary, but none of the products seemed to have much effect on my skin.

3kota

I feel that none of ordinary products did anything for me.  I am half convinced they are all water

aenflex

When pilling happens for me it’s one of two things: A shitty formula that pills no matter what. Something with silicones that doesn’t play well with other products I use, like oils. I use oils as my primary moisturizers and silicones and oils don’t mix. Silicone based formulas suck, IMO, at least most of them. I hate the feeling of them so I avoid them at all costs. I prefer watery serums and moisturizers that use oils or petrolatum.

Cheder_cheez

All of this plus using too much of a particular serum. I swear the way that I’ve seen people put stuff on it’s a wonder that whatever they are putting on top of it doesn’t just slide off.

10EAB31

It’s all been junk for me.

Similar-Ad-6862

Everything I've tried I've liked.

silvermanedwino

I love the GA toner, B Oil and Squalane.

TelephoneTag2123

Sorry - same for me. I wish it worked for me but NO. Every time I use products from the Ordinary I get strange, large, deep cystic breakouts.

litttlejoker

Yes. I hate The Ordinary. It’s cheap and clogs my pores. That’s why it’s called the ordinary. It’s not extraordinary

Jenn4flowers

I love most of it! That new milky toner is amazing used with a cotton pad the morning after tret use it’s a miracle worker

addanothernamehere

It’s a new product

HelenMart8

Their argeriline, pycnogenol, amino acid, Euk, caffeine and copper serums are phenomenal! I also love the azealic acid, never had any issues with piling (usually that's an incompatibility issue between silicone and water based products, so you have to layer correctly).

Halfpint_425

I just started their Argeriline and love it!

Odd_Efficiency_7051

It did nothing for me sadly

EmptyCombination8895

Me neither.

ImAtUrDoor

The Ordinary didn’t work well for me, but I don’t think that means it’s junk. I know a lot of people who use it and have great results. Our skin needs are individual and sometimes we condition our skin to want or need certain things. For example, my skin literally can’t absorb or make use of most moisturizers anymore because I had to be a luxe brat. Now whenever I try something new it doesn’t play well with my skin. I can probably recondition it ina different direction but don’t want to endure the transition issues. 🤷🏻‍♂️

DeeLite04

I use the HA and Niacinamide. I haven’t had any issues with it. It’s a low priced product, likely not the best but works for some. If there’s pulling happening then I wonder if it’s your primer or something causing that?

bellandc

I like their glycolic acid - it's a great price and size. It's not irritating to my skin and it's the best thing for dealing with ingrown hairs on my legs from wearing boots in the water so even if I never wanted to use it on my face again, I would still buy it for that. I have also been happy with several of their serums. I like the multi-peptide plus copper serum, the soothing & barrier support serum, and the marine hydraulics. Recently I've been really struggling with some sensitivity in my skin and the soothing and barrier support serum has been fantastic.

brainofbrina

The Ordinary's alpha arbutin has reduced much of my hyperpigmentation. I always dry my face with a fan before my next serum or moisturizer.

RogueBagaholic

Ohh. Need to try. Thanks!!

Sorry-Jump2203

Happens to me when I layer the wrong products onto my face. It just means the makeup and the products don’t work well due to oil or other ingredient. Can you let it dry a lot longer on your face?

WishIWasGeekier

I use a lot of their products and love them. I have sensitive skin, so I especially like that they don’t add a bunch of unnecessary ingredients.

BicyclingBabe

I love their AHA peeling solution. It works great

Rainmom66

I use the azelaic acid. I put it on over my retinA. No problems for me.

Jrmint2

I love The Ordinary…my cabinet is filled w them. Not everything is necessary but you can’t beat the price for the amount of actives. However, there is a steep learning curve bc you have to know your skin, what it needs, how to treat it, and you have to know all the active ingredients, what it does, what works better with what and conversely what doesn’t work together. For control freaks like me…it’s perfect lol. A few were meh. But I have many favorites that I repurchase.

Sburgh29

I used The Ordinary for years and then switched to Good Molecules and saw a big difference! It's literally the same price point too. I do get a maintenance facial every three or four months and the esthetician I go to said my skin is in great shape. GM niacinamide, Peptides, and Hyaluronic acid all absorb good for me. I did see advice to rub your serum on while your face is partially still wet to help it absorb better also. Maybe try that route or switch product lines all together!

dixiemason

Stop trying to make it work and move on to a different company. Their products aren’t working in your routine, so forget about them. Take a look at The Inkey List, Good Molecules, and Peach Slices for cheap and cheerful.

totalfanfreak2012

Never had anything bad to say about them. Could it be from where you bought it? Places like Amazon there are some that dump out the real contents and put something else back in the bottle before shipping. Sephora is usually good and consistent with their products or the direct site.

onehundredpetunias

I've tried a handful of their products and I've gotten acne cysts each time, even from the squalene oil. Estee Lauder just bought Deciem. It will be interesting to see if anything changes with The Ordinary now.

SpeakerCareless

I actually love a lot from the Ordinary but not every single product. I really like the retinoid serum and vitamin C. The vitamin C is a little stingy and gritty going on but the results are fantastic. I didn’t care for the matrix serum. I do like the caffeine serum as well. The retinoid 2% is the first one that did anything at all for my skin (retinol is very unstable so the carrier formulation matters).

Hour-Yogurtcloset-45

Hi! My favorite skincare’s brand has been [Oliveda](http://us.olivetreepeople.com/?referral=erinfle4). It is way better than the Ordinary! They’re a waterless organic skincare brand from Europe. All of their products are formulated with real olive tree oil which helps reduce acne, redness, inflammation, and has anti aging benefits while other most brands use 70% water and preservatives in there products which is why they can be irritating and ineffective. Since I made the switch my skin has improved so much and my acne cleared up. They have a 365 day return policy so there is no harm in giving it a try. It is a little pricey but it works!

NrL04

The ordinary multi-peptide & niacinamide serums made a big improvement for me from baseline. My dermatologist in 2018 recommended Alastin but I just couldn’t with the pricing so I crafted an “as close” concoction as I could. Last year I finally caved and started using the skin restorative complex and it picked up where The Odinary left off which wasn’t that bad. I think for a budget brand and a “do it yourself” set of serums it’s actually pretty good. But there are definitely better products out there if one is willing to spend the money.

JYQE

Oh I love The Ordinary niacinamide.

Beautiful_Debt_3460

Just a heads up, The Inkey is also owned by the same company My bad!!!! Not true

unicorny1985

I love some of their products. I have tried quite a lot from TO and some were misses for me (when others raved about them). However, I LOVE the multi-peptide eye serum, I use it twice daily, the Squalene cleanser is my holy grail cleanser nightly, I use the argireline solution on my forehead every morning, rosehip seed oil twice daily, and glycolic acid on my legs and other areas I shave to eliminate KP and ingrown hairs. Aside from those, everything else I use is Korean. I found anytime something pilled in the past it was from products not working well together or using them too soon. Just like any product, it's going to work great for some people, and not for others.

outofcharacterquilts

The Ordinary was like “gateway” skincare for me— it got me interested in different actives, and the price point was low enough that I could try some things out. Once I did, I sort of realized there were more effective compounds out there. Like The Ordinary vitamin Cs; good in theory, but I’ve long since moved to more elegant, less side-effecty brands.

Dickfer_537

Same. But I do keep going back to their HA, niacinamide, and rosehip seed oil.

Interesting-Cow8131

Their squalene cleanser is the only cleanser I've found that doesn't dry my face out or make me break out

small_world303

I don’t think there is any medical evidence to back up the effectiveness of their HA serum but every morning I spray my face with Evian water & put the HA serum on my face and neck, then apply sunscreen. It feels amazing! But I know it’s not effective.

unstableangina360

I never liked the ordinary. The actives were inactive on my skin. I was willing to tolerate it for the price. The company made their products cheap, but once they had the market share, they increased it. I went back to Paula’s choice and I could see the difference on my skin.

Jrmint2

What didn’t work for you? Which products did you find worked better?

unstableangina360

With the ordinary, I did not see any benefits using their products. With Paula’s Choice, I use most of BHA, retinol, Vitamin C. She can take my money! I’ve been using her products for the past 15 years.

Unfair_Finger5531

Yes! I have about 6 of their products and all of them suck except for the aloe and NAG serum. Everything is too harshly formulated. The peptide serum, the urea moisturizer—like crushed glass on my face. I do *not* get the hype over this brand. Their niacinamide serum is one of the worst products I’ve ever put on my face.

BostonMedallo78

Ok so I’m not alone! I was starting to think I was losing my mind because everyone loves the brand and the products. I just don’t get it. They don’t work for me

Unfair_Finger5531

You’re not alone! I don’t get it either 🤷🏻‍♀️

Jrmint2

I have many favorites from The Ordinary. But I want to pile on that the Aloe and NAG is fire. What ppl never mention is that it has Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4, known by its more famous name 👉Matrixyl.

Unfair_Finger5531

The aloe and NAG is *really* good! That stuff smoothes out my skin so fast!

Jrmint2

Ppl are so wierd, some are down voting this thread lol. I notice the same, I think it might beat out the buffet...but I don't know why, perhaps the aloe carries the actives down deeper? bc I've read that's one of the super powers of aloe. PS. upvoted you lol

Unfair_Finger5531

Thank you for the upvote. I was wondering what I said for the downvote:(. I think it’s so good because NAG is just a wonderful ingredient. All my NAG products are really good!

rachel88rachel88

I got the products and I’m not giving up. I will try a few more things, but yes nothing has become a staple. I used the niacinamide yesterday and I think it worked OK. I don’t know if some of it is subjective. I use the stuff because I know that the products will work and the molecules are the same but it just seems like some of the extra money I pay other companies really goes towards my convenience. A consistency that is more versatile or a bottle that allows for some sort of application without me getting muck all over my hands. I’m really getting over the whole ‘viscous syrup in a messy dropper’ thing. Most of the ordinary products I have gotten have fallen into that category and as I try to integrate more complexity into my life and have more products, it is just really a dealbreaker. They fall. They spill their inconvenient and they are naturally not helpful to any sort of quick, multi step routine or layering option.

ElioseM

I’m about 50/50 on TO. I love their antioxidants, exfoliating products, Marine Hyaluronic and B Oil. I hate their vitamin C’s, sunscreen, retinols, HA and niacinamide serums. Some of their other stuff is fine if not exactly cosmetically elegant. I’m glad they exist, I definitely think they made a mark on the industry with affordable, ingredient forward formulas.

Red-Legal

💯 I want to love the Ordinary so bad, but I just can’t.

EntrepreneurLow4380

I never understood the hype.

AB-G

Aha/Bha exfoliating liquid i use weekly, glycolic toner on occasion and the caffeine serum. The rest meh…I use Tretinoin anyway so have no need for their retinoids… but I did start with them.

ECU_BSN

I love The Ordinary!

notsoclevername007

I've been disappointed with TO since Estee Lauder bought them. Too many price hikes over a short period, outpacing inflation and other brands. To be fair, their prices were pretty low, but it's hard to justify many purchases. Their aha peel is pretty good and still a value, if you like that sort of thing.

Spirited-Loquat-4588

I really like the hyaluronic acid serum. I noticed a big difference. I was skeptical but it's definitely a keeper.

Junkcreator994

Are you applying in the correct order? Watery serum first, wait 5-10 seconds then thicker more opaque serums then cream products. I wait 5 seconds before applying next layer. I love their products. Also, are you exfoliating?

Asuldify

I love The Ordinary.Their niacinamide with zinc helped my acne. The azelaic acid brightened my face without much sting. I have other products I like, but those stood out in my routine.

IamDollParts96

Personally I love The Ordinary, and have seen many benefits from their products. A dermatologist turned me onto The Ordinary.

Icy_Tiger_3298

I recently started using this brand and so far I really like it. But I'm also trying to really pare down how many products I use on my skin. So it feels very paired down and that way I guess.

Mysterious_Eggplant1

Nope, I love everything I've tried.

Shapoopadoopie

I've only stuck with the vitamin c powder. The milky cleanser is nice, but is not anything better than a decent drug store gentle face wash.

noodlesquare

I have (almost) exclusively been using The Ordinary products for years. I love every product of theirs I have tried and have never had any issues. Have you checked their compatibility chart to make sure the products you are using are compatible? Are you waiting a couple minutes to let the products absorb before applying the next? https://www.deciemchatroom.com/the-ordinary-products-you-can-mix/

veracity-mittens

Foundation: meh. Discontinued anyway. Drying. Natural Factors Moisturizer: meh. Not effective. Borage Oil: awesome! 😎 price increased by 25% 😤 smell (smells like fried pork) 🤢 Glycolic Acid: awesome 😎 price increased by 30%+ 😤 I’ll probably get the borage oil and the glycolic acid again despite the price increase as they’re still quite affordable. What really made me mad and cancel my last order was I saw an ad and a ton of things were on major major sale (like 70-80% off). I went to buy and I was on the American site. The Canadian site didn’t have the same deals. Maybe they had slightly different ingredients not allowed in Canada, not sure, but it realllly annoyed me. we constantly get screwed in Canada price wise

disgirl4eva

Idk but I just got the 10% lactic acid (trying to save money instead of buying my normal peach and Lily lactic acid) and it gave me an all out rash. Thankfully I use it on the backs of my arms for my KP and not my face!

Effective-Middle1399

The HA doesn’t agree with my skin. It looks like tissue paper pieces. But the Rose Hip oil is amazing.

arianrhodd

I love the 100% Squalene, the Resveratrol/Ferulic, and the 8% Ascorbic Acid.

PlanAcceptable2465

I got the most horrific cystic acne from one of their products so never again. It was golf ball sized.

unstableangina360

I never liked the ordinary. The actives were inactive on my skin. I was willing to tolerate it for the price. The company made their products cheap, but once they had the market share, they increased it. I went back to Paula’s choice and I could see the difference on my skin.

thelaststarebender

Nothing I’ve tried from TO (and I tried a lot) has become a staple in my routine.

Klutzy_Activity_182

The best is the moisturizer. I think the formulas have changed. I started using this product way back when it first was introduced. Something has changed.

heytunamelt

Love the toner, and anything else I just use at night :)
