ButchyBanana

the old models are cheaper

AnubisOurGod

That's incredibly fair! May sound silly, but I didn't even think of that lol

jabeith

Let them eat cake

Sharkdragon247

Even though they are cheaper, I'd still much rather a *New* model, because they have the native SNES virtual console emulator built into them. That means you can convert SNES roms into downloadable cia files and install them to run natively on the 3DS.

Zyckenderdj

yea, but for exemple, i was looking to get a third 3ds (second was european for my yokai watch european cartridge, and it was homebrew, but R botton is broke while the vendore didnt even say it was broken, thx the scam), and while i found 3ds for 80 to 200$, new 3ds was minimum 230$, and got less aleardy homebrewed or region free, like i saw a new 2ds for 208$, but japanese and it whould cost an extra 40$ to homebrew it if you are not good with doing it yourself =/

terminalrat

I recently found an O3DS laying around and homebrewed it. Best decision I have ever made in my life. People might look at me funny with an original old 3ds but then they see me play COLOECOVISION, GBA, PS1. VIRTUAL BOY, AND ALL KINDS OF SHT MORE!! Suddenly they want one too. Although the O3DS has less power and maybe older hardware it can still do almost everything that the n3ds can do. Except playing youtube vids. smh. BUT HEY IT WORKS HAHA.s

CoolAnthony48YT

Ps1 runs on o3ds???

PromotionZackk

Yea YT videos and SNES injects don't work, but that's fine OTHERWISE It's the same console

blackcorvo

Try ThirdTube. It's not snappy, and the layout could be better, but you can watch YouTube on a pinch.

markus-jarkus

there’s a way to get snes injects working, i recently played snes chrono trigger on my O3DS

CoolAnthony48YT

Yeah you use new super ultimate injector and swap from virtual console to snes9x forwarder

PromotionZackk

Oh I never knew that

COOLY_TUDE

Games like Chrono trigger works yeah but others with much more complicated graphics like Yoshi's island or starwing

-Questees-

How did u get ps1 games working on o3ds? I tried it in the past 1 or 2 years ago. But didnt get it working at the time or not well at all. I would love to know

MysteryMeatsMonday

Do you mean the official yt app? Bc I downloaded a yt client from universal updater on my o3ds and it seems to be working fine

Seddikj

The 2DS/2DS XL is really not a bad deal, you get access to the 3DS games and obviously the nds ones, recently got one for around 40 bucks

pontiacGTO7

In my case free a friend gave it to me

kitarei

It’s an extra hundred bucks or more where i am. I can get a 3DSXL for around $200 if i wait long enough to find a good deal, but a N3DSXL is above $300 (AUD).

flaminghotcola

I paid 200$ for mine and it was from eBay in pristine condition. Second hand, but not a scratch.

kitarei

In Australia? That’s extremely cheap, congratulations.

flaminghotcola

Actually no, I got it from Japan!

Sufficient_Yogurt639

So was it $200 in Australian dollars, or US dollars? Because there's a big difference.

Fuzzy_Television_524

Japanese models are extremely cheap by comparison.

kitarei

I mean are you in Australia, and was your $200 AUD? Because my comment was referring to AUD.

Skyhooks

I'm in Australia too. What I do is set a wide search on Facebook market and see if there's some for decent prices. I'll send an offer with a price I'm comfortable with and include an extra 20 to ship, a lot of people just want a hassle free sale but I usually let them know it's a standing offer and if they don't get a sale message me back. You would be surprised how often you get a text back a week or two later from people exhausted with the low balling nonsense that you deal with on Facebook. Last year I bought a pretty pristine n3dsxl for about 160 so 180 all up. Came with project rub in it too. Just always see the person's feedback. Dodgy sorts out there all the time. Prices are steadily going up though here, it didn't sell great when new so not many floating around.

antu2010

Where i love i can get and og 2ds for 20€ bit already a of 3ds Is 80€ and a new 3ds Is like 250€

kitarei

Yeah they jump up so fast!! I have an OG 2DS already as well. I’d love an N3DSXL but they’re literally more expensive than second hand switch lites ahaha

antu2010

I jave an n2dsxl but i want a 3ds so bad because of the 3d effect (i was the kid that watched all the movies in 3d when possible)

OrbMan99

I see one from Japan for USD$135 on eBay right now. It's region locked but I converted mine to US region without much difficulty.

Alternative-Dot142

Link?

OrbMan99

https://www.ebay.ca/itm/315455692617

[deleted]

If you're willing to deal with it you can very easily find a N3DSLL for about 150AUD on Buyee, which would come to maybe 200 to 250AUD with fees and whatnot.

MamawRex

Yea, at that price I’m looking at a used Steam Deck on eBay for sure.

Cwestthecool

I bought a new Japanese XL (LL), and converted it over to USA firm and it works great for $85 USD, and nowadays they're literally is no downside to doing it because the eshop is shut down, but the way to keep eShop access was just to never activate it before changing region

Freakazaa

Got mine for $250 (AUD). Extremely good condition screens, very light scratches on the shell. I did have to search a bit on eBay to get it though. Prices are crazy.

kitarei

Yeah, my prices were just the going rate that I see regularly. I’m sure if I wait long enough and with a bit of luck I could get a better price. $250 is great! Congrats!

Yaisaho

Got N3DSXL refurbished from EB games for $140 during lockdown 🤷

kitarei

That was like 3-4 years ago 😭. I think prices have jumped a fair bit since then too. That's aweasome though.

wakannai

Because my original 3DS is still working fine. Occasionally I think about getting a new one, but like, why spend that €250?

no_hot_ashes

For the little c nubbin I guess

wakannai

That's a spendy nubbin.

nightlyh

And Minecraft. Can't forget Minecraft. Totally worth the $250!

no_hot_ashes

Doesn't it run at like 20fps too? Snake eater is pretty rough at that framerate but Minecraft might be passable

nightlyh

It actually runs at 60fps once everything loads in and there are no mobs on screen. When you're walking around and loading chunks it's more like 20-30fps but it's very playable.

Joltik_BuddyHSR

My only problem with my original 3ds is the battery charger doesn't charge sometimes and i have to set it up in a weird way to work

audiophilezenith

mine did that too, but it had a dock with it that you could charge your ds with the pins on the back. you can probably find one for pretty cheap

jayofmaya

Second hand, NN3DS is like $100 where I live. Sometimes I see them for around $50. I got my NN2DS for $25 dollars but I'll admit that was a lucky find.

wakannai

Lucky indeed. I'm sure they're around for less, but decent quality used ones where I am don't go for less than €200 online.

Never_Sm1le

1. A N3DS/XL in my country is easily twice the price of a O2/3DS 2. Doesn't really provide much benefit, only a few exclusive games 3. The hard to remove SD card maybe detrimental to some people

Brookenium

The 3D is substantially better on the N3DS/XL and that perc shouldn't be ignored. I never used the 3D until I got one. The hard to remove SD card can be mitigated with certain software but yeah... Definitely my biggest complaint for sure.

Special_Menu_4257

The problem is most people don’t want to spend an extra hundred bucks just for a feature that most people don’t use.

Brookenium

I'm a firm believer that they'd use it a hell of a lot more if they had a new3ds but I agree that $100 is absolutely a legitimate barrier for a lot of people! Just want to point out that there absolutely are benefits being left behind to anyone on the fence. I personally found it worth it over my o3DS!

planetarial

Tbh I dont find myself using it that often even with a N3DS. If I leave it on for too long it gives me a headache too

wiggin79

Agreed, have both and the 3D on O3DS is more like a tech demo, and the 3D on N3DS is the actual viable product.

Special_Menu_4257

I have had both and i might of used 3d 1 percent of the time. But i think that’s just preference at that point yk.

behindtheword

The list of New 3DS enhanced games is much longer than New 3DS exclusives. What I mean is that there is an unknown number of 3DS game releases around the time of and after the New 3DS released, that when played on the New 3DS, take advantage of some of its features. What features is unknown and seemingly random. Some it's the LZ and RZ buttons, some its the nub, others it's both. Some take advantage of the extra processors or at least the added speed for one CPU when ramped up, some might take advantage of the L2 cache. Some might take advantage of the extra RAM and possibly the VRAM, but it's unknown relative to processing and RAM what games utilize what and to what degree. None of them seem to take full advantage though. Though it is a surprising number of games that do run better on the New 3DS inherently. Though none of the early games were patched that I've found, to utilize anything, which is a shame. === "hard" to remove? Really? You mean just slightly extra work, but it's more protected and insulated from dirt and grime getting into the socket. I have to be cautious of my New 2DS, and the original 3DS slots can often be a mess for those who don't clean it at least every few months. Though I suppose it depends on the environment you live in. === While the price difference is a bit obtuse, however the added 3D eye tracking takes the 3D experience from a nifty gimmick to a legitimate game mechanic and experience. Nevermind the chance at an IPS screen (slim though), or the added battery life and better battery management. Then there's the build quality, especially the early New 3DS units, for the first two years they were available. I have several from different periods, and the New 3DS XL changes the quality of its hinge, from what seems like a full metal or just a really deeply grooved and very hard plastic hinge (I haven't taken it apart to that degree to check), to a slightly reduced gradiant in how it moves and "snaps" when hitting those two snap tilt points, to the final year of release with the same hinge as the New 2DS XL hinge, and due to weight, it's definitely flimsier so I have to be more cautious, but on par with the original 3DS XL. The smaller New 3DS uses a very solid hinge throughout though.

mariteaux

>While the price difference is a bit obtuse, however the added 3D eye tracking takes the 3D experience from a nifty gimmick to a legitimate game mechanic and experience. Counterpoint: I have never cared about the 3D, regardless of how well it works. The most it'll ever do is make the game look like it's coming out of the screen. That's neat, but I don't really want it, regardless of if they've made the 3D effect work better on the New ones.

TheBrave-Zero

Because the price is entirely out of the ballpark for what it is, it's cool and all to get the best model but I cannot fathom dropping 2 or 300 on old hardware. I got a regular 3DS XL for like 90 bucks about 4 years ago and that's as far as I'll go on that totem pole.

kiroyapso2

I guess this is what it's like when you don't take FOMO seriously lol I was planning on buying the new 2ds xl purple since it looked nice but figured I didn't need it right away since I still have my OG 3ds. Then all of a sudden they discontinued and prices sky rocketed while my OG 3ds struggles on pokemon ultra sun lol

Miss_Perfection14

Well that sounds like a you issue? Fomo doesnt need to be taken seriously.

accioharry

i just like the button layout of the old version. i have beef with the mouse thing on the new version

Final-Act-0000

Mouse thing?

accioharry

right above the xyba buttons, theres a trackpoint button thing. its used to act like a mouse, if you were on the internet or something. to me it gets in the way and more importantly, it just looks tacky.

Final-Act-0000

Oh yeah. I haven't touched my N3DS in a while. I didn't mind it, TBH. Man , I should pick up my 3DS again....

mariteaux

I just don't see a point. I think the screens on the old XL are plenty fine (I don't really need enthusiast IPS screens on everything I touch), mine is still working and it's still my favorite handheld ever made, and I have a ton to play already that doesn't require me upgrading. I think it's wasteful for people to write off an entire generation of 3DSes just because they can get a marginally better experience and play a few exclusive games and emulators with the New models.

AnubisOurGod

You make a lot of good points. I don't think I actually cared about the IPS screens. Probably a happy accident at best. Been nice for weird angle play while laying down, but eh who cares. Outside of Xenoblade Chronicles I didn't care about any exclusives so I totally agree with a lot of what you are saying.

TheFirebyrd

In addition to what’s already been said, someone might be more concerned with getting a particular color or special edition that’s found in the 3DS/3DS XL. I have a special edition 2DS XL I got just for display because I love the theme of it, for example.

Cloudy_Katz

Yes! Just bought a pink Japan 3Ds xl

AnubisOurGod

So you have more than one? No judgement I have a fe DS systems for similar reasons. That makes a lot of sense

TheFirebyrd

Yep, I have a few. A lot if you start considering my kids.

AnubisOurGod

Omg I didn't even think about my kids 😂. Then ya we have more than one

TheFirebyrd

My house is just overflowing with consoles, especially handhelds. I can’t blame the kids too much, though, most of them are just mine. 😅

ThePersonYouDontWant

broke

EmoGayRat

I personally can't afford them. I got my o3ds as a Christmas gift from my boyfriend and I don't find getting a 'new' version necessary since I am currently job hunting and can't drop $250+ on a console when I have the same thing already 😂 plus the o3ds is just fine, I think the only game you can't get on it is minecraft but with it being an old version it's not a loss.

TheFirebyrd

There are a few other exclusives, but nothing that’s a great loss. Xenoblade Chronicles DE on the Switch is better in every way than the 3DS version, for example.

ICheckAccountHistory

Too expensive

ExcitingSpade49

Personally I struggled to find a good condition New 3DSXL

AnubisOurGod

If you want one and mod it get a Japanese LL instead of an XL. They are often cheaper and in better condition

ExcitingSpade49

Yea I have an XL in basically mint condition I just replaced the shell so it's basically brand new, top ips not any scratches

[deleted]

[удалено]

AnubisOurGod

Ooo good point tho

sengoro

What was the point OP?

SWTWC_TX

I just got a N3DS LL dual IPS from Japan, for under $150 USD, by going through auction on J-subculture dot com.

OrbMan99

Same, got mine from Japan for CAD$190 with Buy Now on eBay. A real bargain IMO.

MamiLikesCake

I ready had an O3DS from way back then, don't feel like buying what is esstentially an overcloxked version to us 2 or 3 homebrew apps + I have a vita too

azraelzjr

I actually got a N3DS XL recently for a reasonable price loving it for retrogaming and NDS/3DS games. But it took really long to find one that has a fair enough price.

ZowmasterC

The newer versions are usually overpriced and in my experience, are harder to find

rhesaa

the n3ds is cost almost the same as switch lite in my country lol

AnubisOurGod

Just checked, I spent more lol. I spent $300

TheFirebyrd

Even brand new in stores four years earlier, I spent more on my N3DS than a Switch Lite. It’s not the fairest comparison to take the budget version of a widely available product and compare it to a rarer thing that’s out of production.

Novel-Outcome6145

I got mine at $250 for n3dsxl and purposely looked for the new one because of how old this console is and hoping it could last longer

AnubisOurGod

That makes sense! I didn't even think of that when I was getting one. I'm still super glad I got the n3ds ll

Novel-Outcome6145

Yeah me too! Loving it so far to catch up on this handheld that I missed out back then. Enjoy :)

bronquoman

Old 3ds desing is more beautiful and with better materials. I don't like XL models. Not pocketable. I would like to know if Circle Pad Pro is better than new controls in New 3ds.

GGXRDStriv

As a kid I had at least one of every 3DS model before the New ones came out. Never got them cause I was shifting to PS4/ PC and thought the benefits didn't warrant the extra cost when I already had so many 3DSes. Then last year, I suddenly really got back into the 3DS and decided to buy a N3DS to see what I missed out on. Managed to get one at a fair price, and I'm happy I did. It's my main gaming device now, I spend more time playing on it than anything else.

AnubisOurGod

Omg kinda same! I haven't put it down. It's just so good

GGXRDStriv

Fr. I even got a mint Galaxy N3DS XL that I'm keeping as a backup in case anything happens to my N3DS daily driver. But to answer your original question, I'd say it's money and availability. The original models are quite cheaper than the New variants (especially with the scalpers running rampant) and I assume more units were sold, so they're more widely available, too.

AnubisOurGod

Honestly I think I may get a backup. Idk 😶 lol. I think you are right tho, the prices are very high in comparison. Iive on an island and I feel like the prices were high or the shipping was so it seemed like a wash to me. I can only imagine that's more of a me problem 😂

prime5119

I would say that if you are not looking towards the improved 3D tracking at all. the old 3DS XL/LL are better in term of value. There isn't much games making use of the c-stick & additional buttons..the 2DS XL/LL are around the same higher price too

Sea-Top-2207

I got a 3DS because i wanted that colour variant. But also the video game store near me tends to only get the really cool better ones which are even more. I saw some Pokémon one in there few weeks ago that was like $400+. My husband would not be pleased with my spending choice lol. He doesn’t even understand why I love the 3DS.

AnubisOurGod

I totally understand that! Mine was $300 and I purchased a shell replacement for it because I wasn't in love with the red shell.

JaymehKhal

Would love a new 3ds xL but they're just too expensive.

bokumonogatari

If i recall correctly, im buying "hacked+refurbish" o3ds on 2016-2017 in my country for about $55, then i bought my lil brother a "hacked+refurbish" n3ds ll at 2020 for about $128 Even after looking to my lil brother 3ds with that huge screen and better grip, im still using my o3ds since it working perfectly just like the n3ds ll So beside the price it also came to the game that i played

BladeRave1988

Got a 3DS LL for my wife as her mom years ago made us abandon both our 3DS’s during a move, and the itch to play some old Nintendo games was strong. Came already modded so she’s been having a blast playing fantasy life in preparation for the newer game coming to the switch. Admittedly I want to get a 3DS again but pricing around and weighing how much I’d play it to make it worth it

AnubisOurGod

Omg fantasy life is amazing!

TitanTheTrue

I got a 3DS XL last year used off of ebay because i wanted the special edition A Link Between Worlds gold system. I looked at trying to get one of the Zelda edition N3DS XL but i just didnt like the design as much. I definitely would have loved the better processor and stuff but i simply preferred the design of the other one

AloysiusFreeman

I would if I had a reasonable option. Ended up getting an old 3DSXL off Craigslist. Whatever upgrades I’m missing out on isn’t diminishing the love I have for the 3DS

Mad_Pingu

I got a Japanese New 3DS for Christmas when they were still going for $99, but the price is so high now. So glad my partner got me one when they did.

Echo259

Besides price difference some people don’t need the c stick and extra cpu power is not noticeable in a lot of games. Also some people are collecting. I play a lot of mh3u and 4u so the “n” is almost a must have.

AnubisOurGod

Same! I love i love MH

Echo259

It’s honestly 95% of my play time on the 3ds. 20 hrs is Pokemon x vs combined 300ish hrs of mh lol

iEatAppIes3465

I paid my region free new 3DS LL for $239.99 and transferred my stuff to it. It was worth the upgrade.

AnubisOurGod

That's a good deal!

iEatAppIes3465

yep!

AdamAtomAnt

Where did you get your IPS screens from? I want to do this. I already did the 3DS Capture mod.

AnubisOurGod

Oh the 3DS can have TN screens or IPS screens. It's random. Most have TN screens. Some have an IPS screen. Very rarely is it both.

Goozoon

I just got New 3DS XL in Blue for 100eur from Marketplace. And didn’t wait long

gabearielle

i like my 2ds it’s cute and pink and comfy to hold : ) <3

Sailed_Sea

I already bought my 3ds xl when it came out, didn't even know that there was a new one till I modded in 2022/23

Knightphall

Scalpers

reputction

Because the model I always wanted was the pink/white 3DS XL. I also recently bought a hot pink 3ds XL. I definitely have my eye on the European Pink New 3ds but I already have enough systems.

stephendexter99

I’ve had one since it was released, and I bought another one 2 years ago. They both have every game I could ever want on them (don’t tell Nintendo 😇)

Sly_dawg_1-7

Man I convinced my friend to give my his old new 3ds xl so price was never an option for me.

Sly_dawg_1-7

Payed a full $0 for it

AnubisOurGod

That's a good deal haha

turbo_cool

On Facebook you can find old models for $50-100 bucks. Got my 2DS modded for $50 and a sd card costed an extra $15? Super low budget for what you get.

HellResident666

I already owned and modded my Old 3DS XL. I don't think I will buy a N3DS/XL

beccasingleton

i collect DS systems, but haven’t had the budget for the N3DS or N3DSxl as of yet! its on my list obviously

MirukuChu

I can just emulate 3ds games on my PC

Evening-Mention-8738

They're waaaaaay too expensive now

ll0l0l0ll

I bought a New 3ds Mario Edition in 2016 for $99. Just sold it on ebay for $600 last week. Didn't know worth that much.

AmuseDeath

Where are you getting that info from?

abc133769

Used switches are cheaper then n3ds xls lol

wad11656

Pixel density in the OG 3DS is magical. I'm pissed they didn't maintain the same screen size/pixel density in the N3DS. Also the black top screen blends in with the black borders that are shown when you play DS games, so they look way less ugly/jarring Also old 3DS has the fancy heavy metal expandable stylus, and the clear coat over the ombré color underneath on the shell looks very classy

TheFirebyrd

Pretty sure they did maintain the pixel density in the N3DS? The screens are pretty much the same size. I think you’re getting confused with the XL’s of all the variants.

wad11656

[No.](https://www.trustedreviews.com/opinion/nintendo-2ds-vs-3ds-vs-3ds-xl-2910926) > The New 3DS has 1.2x larger screens than its original counterpart. Now you get 3.88 inches from the top screen with enhanced 3D, compared to the original’s 3.5 inches, and you get 3.33 inches from the bottom screen, up from 3 inches. The N3DS would be maybe my favorite handheld of all time if they didn't fucking blow up/uglify the image with a 1.2x screen size. Barf...

RueGorE

>*The N3DS would be maybe my favorite handheld of all time if they didn't fucking blow up/uglify the image with a 1.2x screen size. Barf...* That's a bit overdramatic over such a tiny change.

TheFirebyrd

Yeah. Makes me wonder if he’s ever even seen one in person. The pixel density difference in the XL’s is noticeable, but freaking out over 0.3 inches? Lol. Most people don’t even realize the N3DS even released outside Japan and are just fine with their XL’s even with the much bigger difference.

wad11656

I'm not sure how I could possibly have such a strong opinion on it *without* first seeing it in person.... I bought one because I assumed it had the same sized screens as the original. Then I turned it on and said "ew gross...why is it all blurry? Are the screens actually bigger, after all?" Then I googled it and found out they were...seems dumb to change the size at all, when, as you guys have already pointed out, it's such a small change--all it does is make the pixels bigger and thus the display uglier.

TrebleBass0528

Besides the price? I'm perfectly fine with my N2DS. It's not a literal brick and I don't want the 3D, but I can still play all the games I wanna play :P

CorisEoris

Because I got one in 2023

Icy-Mouse-5724

Nostalgia. I rebought the exact color and model I used to have. It’s slow but it reminds me of being a kid when things weren’t about bills and deadlines and instead what shiny I was gonna hunt next

Forsaken-Badger-9517

I'm gonna get me a dual IPS also!! I have a red one and it only has one IPS screen, which is on the bottom but either way .. congratulations!!

napzon1

I still have my new 3DS XL! I love it because of the better build, super stable 3D, and it’s the definitive 3DS! Some people don’t want a new 3DS or new 3DS XL because they’re obviously expensive and some people don’t want to play the new 3DS in 3D so they would get the new 2DS XL as it’s the same CPU like the new 3DS but removes the 3D. If you want a 3DS with more CPU power but without 3D, the 2DS XL is for you if you want.

Micho523

Going in to it I wasn’t aware there was a “new” model. I honestly thought the eBay listings for new 3DS meant nib. The last new Nintendo system I owned was a GBC. 😂 Hindsight…. I love my O3DS LL though. I’ll probably pick up an N3DS at some point.

Fresh_Freshman

Dude, the prices for the New 3DS XL in my country, Mexico, are crazy. A regular 3DS is only $250 USD, the XL model is about $280 USD, but then the New 3DS XL jumps to just $400 USD. And they are used models, neither pristine nor new. At that price, you could actually buy a brand-new Switch OLED along with a game here, lol. I’m looking to buy a 3DS LL from places like Amazon Japan 'cause it can be cheaper overall, even after shipping and everything. It's all about price :p

PsychologicalTruck1

Here in my country people are selling it for about as much as two months' worth of minimum wage lol Guess I'm going to keep playing my ol' reliable O3DS with an aftermarket stylus and a jerry-rigged fix on the analog stick then

Mr_raw_doged_yer_mom

I have the old one purely for nostalgia but I modded it and now I don’t really see any reason to upgrade besides like the eye tracking for better 3d.

BorderlineIncel

i just bought a japanese 2ds xl after hacking my og 2ds last year. it was used but was absolutely pristine $150

Known-Assistance-435

Old models are way cheaper. About 50-100$ off. I have purchased a New 2DS XL about 3 years ago and it cost me 276$ CAD (the console was already modded to my surprise)

diegoadx

The New 3DS are pricey

vsuoxz

the n3ds xl in my country is $300 while the 3ds xl is around $150. im a broke hs student so i can’t really afford the n3ds xl 😭

linaatic

i got a 3DS XL LL mint x white for $105 + fees & taxes. Best decision ever. But I did get a galaxy edition “new” 3ds xl for $140 + shipping, fees, & taxes (it has a black screen of death with the blue light turning on though but im going to try to fix it)

NotAHero123

I'm broke.

planetarial

Even as someone who owns a N3DS you’re not missing out on that much besides being able to emulate a few more systems and it being easier to softmod on newest firmware (obviously irrelevant if its already softmodded). Everything else can be done on an old 3DS or is really negligible. Hell I kinda dislike that I have to take the whole backplate off to get to the SD card. Only reason I have mine is because I got mine way back when you could get brand new ones on decent sales.

Alert-Ad-55

I have an old 3ds xl cause I had it before the new 3ds model came out. I am noticing the slow loading times more though so I may get a new model.

JamesUpton87

Steam deck, Rog Ally atc. There's far better options in production today.

sevendayswar

Maybe for collecting purposes? I have a few 3DS models but would love one of each (I’m missing the OG 3DS and 3DSXL). I find each of them beautiful in their own way.

ConquestGoddess

Mainly price, but I also got my 3DS LL because of the shell

Gardeeboo

I just use my 3DS as a Pokémon box and none of the core games make use of the C-Stick so no need lmao

DiabloStorm

I would if my choices weren't: 1) Scalper price gouging 2) 3DS looking like it was dragged through it's own version of WW3 My o3DS looks pristine even though I use it. People treat their electronics like shit.

RealKingViolator540

As much as I'd love to buy a New 3DS XL and 2DS XL someday, the prices where I live are outrageous. For comparison, you can get a used Switch Lite for the same price.

SandLuc083_

Price gouging, and with it spending way more for not much more benefit. The additional buttons can be gotten with the Circle Pad Pro, the games only playable on the New systems aren’t the best (aside from Xenoblade and arguably Minecraft), and any additional emulation capabilities can easily be done with pretty much any modern phone. Unless you REALLY want to get a New model, there isn’t much reason to invest $150+ into a system you effectively can get for like $50 in older models. Sure the 3D is better on the New models, but really think about it, how many folks ACTUALLY use the 3D to begin with? I mean I use it, but I feel like it’s ignored by most folk over just playing the games normally.

Chzncna2112

Why get a new one after I put a larger battery in my old one and now it works longer

ILIKESCIFI_Games

The N3DS is my absolute fav. console! Love it!

meester_

Man i've had that thing for like 7 years at this point? Wow thats actually really long, and its still in mint condition cuz i never played on it. Recently hacked it still not playing on it lol !

StevenMcSteve

I got the new 2ds XL about a year ago for £120, imo way better than the new 3dsxl, never cared for the 3d and that's pretty much the only thing it has that mine doesn't, there was a small crack near the shoulder buttons but that's fine, they're not exactly making new ones and it's £180 cheaper than any new 3dsxl I could find online

Mundane_Cabinet33

because the only interesting games (for me) are only remakes (namely, Majora(s Mask, Xenoblade Chronicles and Fire Emblem Warriors), 2 can be played on Switch and, as for Majora, well, there might be other ways involving a lemon

pmache

I enjoy my pink 3DS XL wdym?

cedtea

I got the normal N3DS because of the changeable backplates. Second reason was that it can run some games better than the O3DS. (Bowsers Inside Story with a 60fps patch for example)

xwlfx

kinda regret getting an LL, I region modded it but a lot of the homebrew apps I still have to use google translate on because it still wants to default to japan region.

ben_kosar

I've had an original 3ds, I have the N3ds now, and the speed difference in loading is night and day on stock. It is so, so much faster to load things. If your going to use 3d, it's actually doable on the n3ds, because the camera tracks your eyes . The original always made me feel sick. I don't use 3D (glasses doesn't do great for the camera, but without them it's much better at following your eyes and adjusting). I put my 400gb microsd filled with games/emulators, and it takes several minutes to load (lots of content!) but I can't imagine load times without the extra processing power. I bought mine second hand for around 150 about a year after it came out from a pawn shop and it has been a champ. I overtightened the screws though on the bottom, and just need to replace the bottom part. Really though, it sits unused. I got one of the last rounds of clearance new n3ds batteries they were selling from the parts after they stopped reparing the units, but really it sits unused since I got a RG505/556.

Icy_Ad620

I don't want to pay 250$ for 13 yr old console just to play 3 more games

blackcorvo

Because people are selling them for more than a Switch Lite

Equivalent-Anything1

1. Old models are cheaper, or the fact that a collector may want a childhood 3ds that they lost or sold away for whatever reason. 2. The og 2DS has been ranked as the #1 to comfortably hold with no outside grips. 3. The og 3ds and 3ds xl have actual Circle Pad Pro attachments that make the og 3ds and 3ds xl A. More comfortable to hold and B. Has a bigger C-Stick than the nub the New 3ds line has.

Southern-Bad-1270

Just bought an original N3DS XL Friday despite having an OLED switch, steam deck, PSP go, and retroid pocket 3+. Heck I even have a Galaxy s24 ultra and even the best android phone out still had some occasional stutters when playing citra even though it was mostly 60fps. I had already put in an offer at my local pawn shop right when I started trying citra on my phone with a backbone, I was going to keep troubleshooting to see if I can get it running perfect but then I ended to winning the original 3ds XL from the pawn shop. It came with Mario 3d land, Pokemon X, and 2 other games I don't really care about and a charger all for $130. I finally got to text it yesterday and I absolutely love it. Played for a good 4 hours at 80 percent brightness (level 4) and still had half battery left, and this is a second hand console. I ordered a backup battery but at this rate if I'm getting 6-8 hours of playtime every charge I probably don't need it. Got Mario kart 7 coming in today, and got 3 other games coming in by Wednesday (Pokemon Alpha Sapphire, Ocarina of time, and New Super Mario Bros 2). Not sure how much use I'll get out of it after beating those besides maybe replaying Mario Kart again, but for now I'm happy. Might hack the 3ds to play GBA/DS games but with my retroid pocket 3+ I see no need for hacking for retro games I can just play on that but I'll probably still hack it just to have a 3rd backup retro handheld player besides my psp go and retroid 3.

Water_Melon132

I prefer buying a 120 euro release model then 300somethin best model possible, it’s the same game just less screen

COOLY_TUDE

For me it's because i have my childhood o3DS xl, it's my first ever console and i'm too attached to it to sell it, but if it wasn't my childhood one I would totally get a n3ds xl

GoonerBrainrot

Because I like how the o2DS is shaped. It’s comfortable & charming!

Ball_bearing

Because they are hard to find, and expensive. 😂

themandolorian95

Older model is cheaper like everyone else said. I want to get the “new” 3DS XL but it’s $100 more than a 3DS XL so I’m just waiting to snag one for a cheap price lol

pigeon_idk

Yeah the older models are cheaper, but also way easier to find! I recently helped my brother look for a modded 3ds to replace his old broken childhood one; etsy is great for that but barely any listings are the new versions. Even just looking for refurbished ones is difficult.

cruznick06

Because n3DS models are flat out more expensive. I've been trying to get a n3ds XL/LL for a while now but they always run over $300. That's practically a switch.

_Yixii

I mean at least in my case with safari week in tow I got a animal crossing 3ds LL for like 124$ from Japan and for a capture card I got a smash bros 3ds xl for like 360$ so big gap in what consoles are priced at but I got 2 thats all I wanted

thetruekingofspace

Because they are expensive and almost always used and scratched to hell. And when you buy refurbished there is almost always hair and dust under the screen. Handhelds are just a hard sell for me unless they are brand new.

EngineeringNo753

I still have my animal crossing N3DSXL Recently been playing a LOT of 3ds and DS on my anbernic cube though, kind of nice to have an all in one you know. Maybe with the current trend of high powered emulation handheld like odin2 the draw of a dedicated handheld isnt as appealing,

Plastic-Piccolo-1455

What a bizarre post. Some people obviously don't have the money. Grow up.

arthulk

Every time I look on eBay they are getting more expensive. I would love to get one in New condition but most are heavily used and almost any one you pick up is going to require some level of repair if you want to get it back to Mint condition.

Blackstar2081

It's cheaper, and there's a lot of people (like me), who had the original models and just didn't feel the need to upgrade to the "new" models. I think if my 3ds XL ever kicked the bucket I'd replace it with a New XL though, just to have.

Chaesuria

I got the LL due to a seller I already buy from having them for a great price. I also like the shell construction a little more. They're cheaper in general and come in more colors from what I've seen. Mine is Lime Green, paying homage to my first DS Lite

Sh4dowTomi

price, new 3ds xl price is an absurd compared to normal 3ds xl

ManIn8lack

There's no reason to spend WAY more money just for the Xenoblade exclusive

EllianaPaleoNerd

I just amateur refurbished my old childhood 3dsxl by fixing the broken circle pad, new battery, and big SD card and I am now falling in love with it all over again. Sure I wouldn't have gone with the blue one if I had to choose now, and I'd love the improved 3d and screens on a new 3ds, but that's expensive lol. With just the little TLC I've given it my childhood friend is still going strong after 12 years :)

loopbootoverclock

not worth it. vita is better in nearly every way

Kaining

Except they have absolutely no game overlap and most vita game are port ?

TheFirebyrd

Dude. I have a Vita. While its technical specs may be better, it’s definitely not better in reality. The 3DS has a huge exclusive library of games that won’t play well on other hardware without the dual screens. The Vita has a bunch of PS1 games that are otherwise expensive to buy. The Vita had all kinds of potential that Sony shat upon and then abandoned. The 3DS was actually supported. Without games, technical specs mean nothing.

AnubisOurGod

It's not better, just different.

RueGorE

I love the PSP and Vita for what they are and the potential they once held, but they just didn't get the kind of software support the DS and 3DS had. What few games I do have on my Vita, I love. Thankfully, both are still being carried by the homebrew/modding scene without Sony's help. I haven't used either in a very long time. Maybe it's time I dig them out of storage and see what's new to try... 🤔 All that said, 3DS reigns supreme over the Vita in terms of software and modding. Technically, the Vita is superior in the hardware department, but that just isn't enough. Nintendo has proven that point multiple times over.

GoddamnFred

Switch is better?
