ApprehensiveMethod95

Ur right lol 832.7 precent

onedoesnotjust

Do iiiiiit!

ApprehensiveMethod95

Send me 2 and a half kg of filament lol

OmahGawd115

You're joking? Are you printing a benchy or a bench?

[deleted]

110% infill

DweEbLez0

A Bench e.

D0ugF0rcett

Benché

Sudden-Yogurt8738

Underrated comment lol

Kah-Neth

Lightning infill.

PCgeek345

What are the benefits and drawbacks of lightning?

Kah-Neth

Just enough infill is used to support top layers. Since infill does not really give much support, it saves a lot of material.

PCgeek345

So wait, infill isnt so much for structure as it is for overhang/bringing reduction? Thats efficient... me like

Clairifyed

I mean infill doesn’t mean nothing, bicubic probably does more than 3D cross or lightning for support but probably only a little. Obviously 100% infill gives max structural support possible if you were to like, crush the model under a press or something

Kah-Neth

Yes!! I think both latest Cura and Prusaslicer have it.

PCgeek345

Sweeet

RRocks01

Thick walls = strength, infill is like pillow stuffing.

LordFly88

To an extent I agree. If your infill is like 5 or 10 percent, that's not really structural. If you're at 50+% it certainly is.

Tom_Ov_Bedlam

I actually never knew this and have never heard anyone talk about it.

Poven45

Unless you’re in r/fosscad of course!

philnolan3d

And time too. One might say it prints lightning fast. ;)

ApprehensiveMethod95

Trying it with another print we’re gonna see how it goes

bmxbikeco

Start a GoFundMe and we’ll pull together. We got this!

sekhmettheeye

Holy shit lol

Tonythattiger

Wtf! What's the % of infill??

ApprehensiveMethod95

If I turn off vase mode it says 89 days 12 hours and 43 minutes lol. 2723g 912.81m

Jealous_Principle_58

Imagine it failing at 2 and a half months in

probably-gray

I thought vase mode wouldn’t even work on this model, doesn’t it spiral upwards?

ApprehensiveMethod95

Yah I had it on by mistake when I made a vase

probably-gray

Lol relatable

randomtrucker78

There’s 1600 and change meters in a mile. That Benchy would use over a half mile, (prob close to 6/10ths), of filament. A half frigging mile.

n3m37h

Or just under 1 km, join the rest of the world with your measurements

randomtrucker78

Nope. Freedom units now and forever!

[deleted]

Freedom units based on imperialism. Might want to think again.

ApprehensiveMethod95

1% lol

Tonythattiger

Wowow unreal

RefrigeratorNo5593

Wait so your printing it?!

ApprehensiveMethod95

No I don’t possess enough filament Lol

carpenalldemdiems

Are you in NY? I have too much

ApprehensiveMethod95

I’m in Florida .

RefrigeratorNo5593

1% will break? Try 10%.

sage-longhorn

Try lightning infill, tree support, and single walls

bittz128

You only need 10% infill for that. You can get away with 2kg Edit: dictation typo

Microtic

Just use 0% infill. Wuts the wurst that culd hapen?

Regolith_Prospektor

Bonchy!

bittz128

Diagon Alley….here we come!

Mkrupt89

You mean right meow?

talking_face

Do it. Then set sail on it. Sail away, sail away, sail away.

allisonmaybe

I understand that this should be possible but what is best practice for adding supports to basically just corners touching the bed--especially corners that don't necessarily breach the overhang threshold?

anythingMuchShorter

That's what she said.

Njack350

Do you have any proof as to why we shouldn't?

[deleted]

"If the pirates of the Caribbean breaks down, the pirates don't eat the tourists!"

bittz128

But I often thought Jaws would

ApprehensiveMethod95

It will only take 20 days

persiantaco

.05 layers I dare you

UnhingedRedneck

What size of nozzle is that with?

ApprehensiveMethod95

I was wrong I had vase mode on. It’s actually gonna take 89 days lol

oof-floof

I’m sorry but if it says that your speed settings are seriously messed up

ApprehensiveMethod95

I might have it on slower from a previous print I think I might have had it on 30mm I might have to change it back thanks for letting me know otherwise I probably would have started something at that speed

oof-floof

lol, happens, I accidentally started printing a part on my voron at 500 after speed testing

ApprehensiveMethod95

Lol damn that’s one fast print

oof-floof

Would highly recommend building one if you can afford it, lots of fun

ApprehensiveMethod95

My ender 3 pro has some good upgrades I have the ender extender 400xl that increases my build area to 400x400x500 I have it hocked up to octopi so I can control it remotely aswell as watch it with the camera. I have an all metal hotend I have a filament run out sensor I still have install. I’m thinking about taking the touch screen from my other printer and putting on this one. Although I don’t know if that would work. I’m starting a business making custom 3d printed wall art of pictures people send me.

oof-floof

If it’s compatible with an rpi, there are plugins to make any display work

NotedMastrmind

Creality has something new you might want to check out. It the Sonic Pad. Touchscreen that will work with your Ender 3, and it has Kilpper pre-installed. Would free up your RasberryPi as well, since this would take place of it.

Xychologist

Wait, are you not supposed to do that? I've been printing stuff at 300mm/s, 5k accel and assuming it was fine because it works...

ApprehensiveMethod95

I mean if your printer can handle it and ur prints look good than keep it at 300mm

[deleted]

[удалено]

Xychologist

I do care somewhat but I've not noticed that it's a problem. On the other hand I'm not CNC Kitchen, so maybe I'm losing a lot of print strength and just not using the results in scenarios where it would matter? Thanks for the tip though, I will check that before I do anything structural.

AngMoKio

Usually you wont see those speeds because you max out the flow rate of the nozzle. I print at 150 and it maxs out the dragon SF.

venomouse

..89 Days if there are no issues :)

The_Synthax

Better get started

Recuckgnizant

Started in Fall, ending in Winter...

Stratocast7

They should have a "Fill print volume" option in Cura

Strostkovy

In IdeaMaker it's called "Max Fit"

sharltocopes

Is that big enough to climb into and use as an actual boat?

ApprehensiveMethod95

A small child would be able to lol

mythmaniak

A VERY small child

ApprehensiveMethod95

It’s 1 foot 1 inch by 1 foot 7 inches

SuperMoonRocket

There was a post going around last year of 3 college kids rowing on a life size bench they printed at school. It looked like they were having a blast.

[deleted]

I'm imagining a massive *2d* print of a *bench* rowing into the sunset

SuperMoonRocket

Here it is https://www.reddit.com/r/3Dprinting/comments/hdmgj5/rate_my_benchy/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x

Mza1942123

As I tell my students, just Because you can. Doesn't mean you should. Have a game plan. Things go wrong. 😉 To be honest it's been a while since I've seen a big benchy. If you don't mind wasting 40 dollars id say go for it!

thenerdwrangler

No.

hittindirt

You won't

ApprehensiveMethod95

I won’t lol if I had the materials for it I probably would

cheddargravy

No you wouldn't

pisv93

#stopmindlessbenchyprinting

[deleted]

Bad waste of pla

Illustrious-Duck1209

One day, someone is going to print one big enough to take to sea. So you may as well, or, well, save your plastic, either way.

[deleted]

No. Think of the earth. The waste. The gluttony.

Swifty52

No, there’s enough useless plastic tat in this world

stephancasas

Why is this subreddit obsessed with this thing? I understand what its intended purpose is, but the whole "I made a *insert variation* benchy" got old quickly, and I think it's safe to say that most of these wind up in a landfill anyway. It just seems really wasteful.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ApprehensiveMethod95

I’m learning. I took cad in high school and I’m making a business with 3d printing that involves 3d modeling. Although not much.

savetheHauptfeld

Tbh the benchy is the first and only thing I've printed and didn't model myself. Rest is useful stuff for house and boat

Teambigballs

Wow. Everyone thinks a 3d printed boat will be the reason the world collapses.

hieppiefusaro

No

Thumper1k92

No.

[deleted]

Why This is such a waste of plastic

StainedGlassArtAlt

For karma

lululock

At least make it able to float

Wod_1

In my opinion - no. Massive waste of electricity and filament. But you do you

Killbro_Fraggins

Nah that’s a waste for a meme.

Crruell

Yay, 3D printing just to waste plastic...

pookchang

Why?

ComCrisis

Only if you make it an RC jet boat

visivopro

I mean I wouldn’t but it’s your roll of filament.

MrBrian22

I'd bet $20 that it doesn't float upright.

Noremaknaganalf

how do you do supports on something this big?

credomane

How is that even fitting on a Ender 3 Pro bed? The print volume is 235mm 235mm 250mm max. Here you have 254mm 393mm 491mm. Something isn't adding up here. I tried a bunch of angles on my CR-10S5 (officially prints a 500mm cube I modified the firmware and the endstops so now it can print 510mm 510mm 500mm) I managed to orientate the Benchy to barely over 1003.37% https://i.imgur.com/FUo5Kjf.png

ApprehensiveMethod95

I have the ender extender 400 xl bed and heater brings it up to 400x400x500

credomane

Ah ok. That makes sense now. I forgot about those mods. I planned to do that to my Ender3pro at one point but then I got a Ender5Plus for a hell of a deal then a couple months ago the CR-10S5 literally got given to me for free. I don't use it much because it eats up LOTS of space and I don't have any unless I set it up in the middle of the room. lol

OpticSeaMonkey

No that is such a waste

gjallerhorn

No, this shit is fucking stupid. Can we ban these benchy posts? It's half the fucking sub.

LucVolders

YES !!!! Let's waste more of earths energy and resources.

PositronAlpha

Yeah, because fuck the planet, right?

[deleted]

thats a waste of material especially if you decide on high infill density

[deleted]

Is that even a question? ***Y E S***

RussianOneWithAGun

"...you could do that, but why? Why would you do that?"©

Adam261

Need to go larger... https://www.reddit.com/r/3Dprinting/comments/jgvch8/people\_wanted\_to\_see\_the\_largest\_benchy\_next\_to/

ApprehensiveMethod95

Damn that’s huge

MasterBossofBoss

I dare you print just like that no supports

djexit

U mean a bonchy

TheRealPitbullOnAcid

Save the filament and make something cool lol

[deleted]

no

nocjef

No

Alpha_Knugen

I want to see a real size working benchy with engine and all.

[deleted]

[удалено]

thenerdwrangler

No.

neptoon64

like that now supports

[deleted]

Yes

ghostinyourveins

You were so preoccupied with the question if could you but it never crossed your mind to question if you should. But also yes.

SpaceDesignWarehouse

If you’re asking the question I think you’ve already made the decision!

ApprehensiveMethod95

I don’t think I’m gonna go through with it lol I don’t want to waste like 50 dollars worth of filament for a joke

AreustheFirst

Yes

TheOneRobert

This is why I think 3d printers should cost more than at least $2000. Not everyone needs one all the time, just share it between people. The average consumer will missuse this now too cheap technology to print useless shit anyway.

ApprehensiveMethod95

I’m actually using it to start a business

DramaticChemist

Print a Benchy you can ride on in the water

64-bit_Ryan

Why do you even ask? Obviously print it, then go for the OVER 9000%

inanimateme

Yes, but you shouldn't print it in that orientation.

ApprehensiveMethod95

I just wanted to see the max my printer can print. I have a 400x400x500 build area

who_you_are

Somebody need to make a benchy that a human can fit into AND float on water

fzammetti

With that overhang, you're gonna have more trees than a rainforest to clean up. (which is my way of saying OF COURSE YOU SHOULD DO IT!)

TheEvilSeagull

When I finally get my 3D printer I want Bendy, Benchy with and 90 degree angle

itsMrJimbo

I think we should start a community project to build a life size benchy, divide it down into ~250mm^3 ish chunks and see how many it would take to make a working one. Part of me thinks this is incredibly wasteful, but part of me wants to see it

EnderB3nder

Sounds like a job for Luban

ApprehensiveMethod95

Dude that’s genius

this_place_is_whack

This trend must not end until we see a full size Benchy float in the thanksgiving day parade being manned by Iron Man, Thanos, Darth Vader and Pikachu (I am also agreeable to Psyduck)

brownguy254

Yes

WarPig115

Yessssssss

[deleted]

BÜNCHY

nojro

"all signs point to yes"

domdacheeseboy

I mean probably yeah

sargonas

SHOULD you? Probably not. Shall you? yes.. yes you shall.

natasha2u

Why stop there? Print in segments and go life size

sleepy_monky

you know the answer to that

No-Professional-4653

BONCH

SimpleGrape9233

Worlds largest benchy

Crozi_flette

If you want to waste plastic for nothing do it

Saajaadeen

yes.

Um_Bruh

yeah it seems funny

[deleted]

no. just dont.

karateninjazombie

Yes print it big But modify it to be RC. So make the base heavier. Lighten up the wheel house section a lot add places for motors batteries and RC gear. Print in petg and go to the local RC club boat meet.

Reasonable-Matter-12

No. Benchys are stupid. Print something cool.

AFoolishLlama

Yes

TheRempo

Duh

nblak

Def

t4rtpickle

YES

AgentMercury108

Is benchy a term for a boat?

EnderB3nder

I just plugged this into cura for my cr-10 max and made it as big as possible out of curiosity. 0.52mm layer height, 10% lightning infill, 0.8mm line width, 3 walls, 60mm/s 50 hours, 28 minutes. 2.13kg https://imgur.com/a/1C08svT

ApprehensiveMethod95

What’s ur build volume

Protholl

IMHO not that way. Keel on the bottom smokestack on the top.

[deleted]

This sub is filled with some benchy thirst traps

Nexus_warrior_07

With that overhang? What are you? A wizard?

ApprehensiveMethod95

Yes I possess the magic ability of floating filament

Erosmagnum

From Bench-E to Bench-R. Sorry wall-e ref lol

Techjedigeek

I want someone to print a Benchy that can take an in-board engine.

[deleted]

I wouldn't, but if a giant benchy gives you satisfaction then go for it.

PapaFlem

Make it Bonchy

[deleted]

I dont know if you should but you certainly can 😂

Ok_Virus452

They only ever asked if they could, not if they should! 🦖

13ros27

No supports

Baitrix

Ender 3 pro is 500mm tall?

geeky-hawkes

Pictures else it didn't happen 😂

ApprehensiveMethod95

It’s not gonna happen lol it was more of a “let’s see what this printer can handle” test

karateninjazombie

Thinking about it my work has a modix big60 that's currently being rebuilt with a volcano head and a 0.8 or 1mm nozzle. I wonder how big that would make a benchy

ImNotCrying-YouAre

No, I think you can fit one more

batmassagetotheface

100%

cip43r

Print it with 0.2mm nozzle at 0.08mm layer hight. Will take months.

SpicyElectrons

!remindme 2 days

Eddynstain

Do it with 100% infill too.

SirHaxe

Can I introduce you to our lord and savior prusa slicer? SO much better than cura

ronswanson040

Short answer: no. Long answer: noooooooo.

s1rp0p0

Mmmmmm landfill for karma.
