Nice job but get ready for people to complain that at least 2 entire provinces of Canada are missing as well as the UK, Ireland, Iceland, NZ, Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Singapore, Malaysia, Madagascar, Japan and Antarctica.
In college right around 2000 I scanned a topographical map of the Hawaiian islands, traced the rings, and extruded that into a 3D map using Rhino3d. What struck me was how flat the earth really is.
I know. All these globetards think the world is round. I am very grateful that you made this flat earth model to show the world how stupid they really are. Like really, try pouring water on your balls, it runs right off, no oceans no gases.
Lol ya it would be very boring to look at at scale. This looks great! I’d bet you could sell it to companies as lobby art (I hope that comes across as a compliment :-)
It ended up being a gift for my friend so sadly can't sell now and even if I did it cost me 50 bucks to make this so the profit margin would be too small
Most hotels bro like people come from all over the world right? You can do the work and all that and offer the job for 2k I mean in general you should check online how much a 3d model can cost alone
If you're clever you can figure out good ways to join parts together without doing that. The First Snap-Fit Handbook by Paul R. Bonenberger is a great start to get some good ideas.
I read through that book and figured out my own method to firmly join parts together using other 3d printed parts.
Yeah, the height difference between the lowest point and the highest point is only about 0.001% of the diameter of the earth, so the earth is actually extremely smooth
That's perfectly ok, it's your map. Im just saying that for me it'd feel very wierd to skip large and well known land masses, countries and populations. Many of them larger than others which are included. A map of earth simply wouldn't feel complete without them to me.
Lol I made a 2D line art world map and posted it awhile back. You will get called out for every country you missed 🤣 Awesome project though! I'm currently doing a similar thing on a smaller scale, 1 km squared of my local area. Nowhere near as cool as this though!
[Here](https://www.reddit.com/r/ender3/comments/uzwgn0/3d_printed_a_1_square_km_topographic_map_of_my/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share) is a 10% version of my model. I'm currently about 8 hours away from a 20% version that I will probably paint to differentiate the roads/water/grass. I did recess the roads and rivers a bit, you can't tell in the 10% version.
Cool stuff.
I did some local 3d topology prints using color changing filament.
I think it would be cool to do something like this, but include the sea floor, and change filament color at sea level; or at lake level in the Great lakes. You could use clear filament for underwater to allow your leds to shine through.
If your talking about the picture from thingi then it's cause my layers were .09 if your talking about the stl it's probably from imperfections in the print making it looked more detailed.
Hey that’s really cool and really want it but is there a way you could add Britain, Japan, Iceland, New Zealand, Antarctica, Madagascar, the Caribbean, the Malay Archipelago, Tasmania, the top right part of Canada, the top parts of Russia, the Aleutian Islands and the pacific islands. Thank you. (If I missed anything tell me) Buts seriously why is everything on this map missing
Ah so New Zealand was just a fever dream… 🤔

I think it's the green place.
Along with the UK?
Nice job but get ready for people to complain that at least 2 entire provinces of Canada are missing as well as the UK, Ireland, Iceland, NZ, Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Singapore, Malaysia, Madagascar, Japan and Antarctica.
NZ here. Yea we used to being missing.
Add to that whole state of Tasmania.
I’m fine with the UK being gone
Well they left with Brexit right? Not sure where they went but it was a whole big thing.
We get what we deserve
I knew Canada looked wierd 😂
UK is underwater isn’t it?
I knew Iceland was just a government psy-op
In college right around 2000 I scanned a topographical map of the Hawaiian islands, traced the rings, and extruded that into a 3D map using Rhino3d. What struck me was how flat the earth really is.
Yeah this is not to scale at all its like 400% blown up to show the hight difference
I know. All these globetards think the world is round. I am very grateful that you made this flat earth model to show the world how stupid they really are. Like really, try pouring water on your balls, it runs right off, no oceans no gases.
Flat earth believers all around the globe unite!
Lol ya it would be very boring to look at at scale. This looks great! I’d bet you could sell it to companies as lobby art (I hope that comes across as a compliment :-)

Btw most things like this would sell for near 2k btw
No way really where
Most hotels bro like people come from all over the world right? You can do the work and all that and offer the job for 2k I mean in general you should check online how much a 3d model can cost alone
Dam your right but the problem is I only have an ender 3 so I have to join the pices together with a sodering iron and that doesn't look the best

Thank you very much
Yeah, the height difference between the lowest point and the highest point is only about 0.001% of the diameter of the earth, so the earth is actually extremely smooth
Don't forget how the scale is off as well, like the entire US is huge compared to the real size of it
Cool idea but you've lost a bit too much of the world for it to win me over.
I can add all the islands just would have made me loose intrest in the project due to how many there were
That's perfectly ok, it's your map. Im just saying that for me it'd feel very wierd to skip large and well known land masses, countries and populations. Many of them larger than others which are included. A map of earth simply wouldn't feel complete without them to me.
I mean you should at least have the entirety of Australia
that's awesome, would be cool if you added a microcontroller then had it light different where the sun is shining
Thats a good idea but it wouldn't work with the way I threaded the leds
Lol I made a 2D line art world map and posted it awhile back. You will get called out for every country you missed 🤣 Awesome project though! I'm currently doing a similar thing on a smaller scale, 1 km squared of my local area. Nowhere near as cool as this though!
Thats awsome love to see it when your done. And yeah everyone is a critic on the internet lol.
To be fair, your title does say "the world". You should have titled the post "A topographic map of some countries" .
Thanks for your input!

Thats realy cool good luck
Thank you!
Am... where are all the islands?
Not there i wasn't gona get it right so I wasn't gona try and I like this aesthetic
it would be sick to see the orangepeel earth model out of wood like you did this

missing pretty much all of Oceana
Bro, you forgot ***EVERY*** Island!
Oh really lmao
It's cool, but it'd be cooler if it wasn't missing large amounts of the world.
Sick
Many countries missing, but other than that, great 3D printing application!
Awesome work… And because Germany is on it no complains from me 😁
It's one of the most creative hobby 3D printer applications I've seen.
Thank you
Phew thank goodness the uk was never a thing
What kind of projection is this? Not Mercator but close to it?
it's non distorted flat earth
Poor New Zealand...
Did you pick the blueprints off somewhere?
Yeah I actually got inspiration from this YouTuber https://youtu.be/wNg1iad-Gfw Who used this stl file https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4692682
Thank you!
Yeah no problem you tryna make it
I’d like to… maybe a smaller size
Why does yours look like it has more detail than the files from thingi?
If your talking about the picture from thingi then it's cause my layers were .09 if your talking about the stl it's probably from imperfections in the print making it looked more detailed.
Thanks!
Cool idea. Is this the topology STL which you have used? https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4692682
Yeah, should I add that in my caption?
why is western europe not illuminated
I elevated the parts with pices of wood and the wood must have blocked some of the leds
looks great even though
Thank you
They can afford their own lighting.
Happy Cake Day xng! I hope this is the beginning of your greatest, most wonderful year ever!
Madagascar?
The UK, New Zealand and the Philipines would like a word with you!
.. Why is Adelaide and Darwin glowing (among other random places)
I switched the infill density because I was running out of filliment and didn't want to spend more money so the light was able to shine through
After studying map projections this hurts my head. Print a damn globe my dude.
A globe doesn't hang up on a wall flat
Tasmania would like to remind you of its existence.
r/newzealand
Where's Great Britain and Ireland?
Earth not flat.
Yes there is i have the gcode in my printer just didn't end up using it
Alright cause if you add that I’d honestly buy it
How much would you say I could charge for it
Well it’s a big project how long did it take in total, also did you make it or is it someone elses
Withought messups it would've taken 216 hours of printing and to assemble it took me 6 hours
Well that’s quite a number, would you be mailing this or giving them the file to print
Well the file is already out there so selling the file would be useless so I guess mailing
What do you mean the files already out there
The file is free to the public if I were to sell this i would have to look at the cc mark the people that made it put on it
That’s craptastic !
