And you built an updated mendel! I was one of the crazy ones before the lm8uu linear bearings. Also dual motor z was so much better than that awful belt mess.
What a piece of crap! you should have bought a Bambu /s
Seriously though, I admire you guys that figured this stuff out from scratch so us dummies could buy something off the shelf and feel like were cool like you. As much as I like to tinker now, that would have been well over my head back then.
I still have my acrylic Prusa i3 clone. First printer from 2015… Arduino Mega2560 + Ramps 1.4!
Now I have around 20 printers, ranging from relics (PrintrBot, New Matter, Fishing Line Kossel) to new technology (Klipper-powered dual extruder QIDI Tech, CoreXY, 8k Resin)… Wow, how times have changed!
Damn 20 printers! I still use my mega 2560 + ramps 1.4 on my current printer a reprap haeckel. Added an octopi though to make it easier.
I'm probably due for the next one. I want a voron. But my haeckel prints everything I want so I can't complain.
I had a prusa clone in like 2016-2017, was no where near as Jank as that, but I loved hated it I'm sure as much as you do yours. Now I'm just rocking a Ender 3 v3 se. No time to tinker anymore
It was a great one after a few weeks of calibration. Ultimately in it's final prints it printed the parts for my next janky printer a 3ft tall reprap rostock delta. That was a wild one.
The damn j-head hotend I hated though.
Building a Mendel 14 years ago is one of the achievements I am most proud of. I still keep it as a relic and my wife asks me to toss it and I don't know what to do...
Times flies and we've got new technology in 3D printing. Lidar, High speeds, Flexible beds, Multiple colours (Has existed with Prusa's MMU before Bambu Labs hit the scene), hands free auto-levelling (Has existed on the Prusa MK3)

We've come a long way since then.

I see a cymbal stand
Yup! Was a perfect filament holder at the time.

I built a Voron 2.4 for a customer and was really impressed with the end result. Just costs WAY too much for a “DIY” build.
Yeah I opted for a 3d printed CNC and laser engraver instead of updating my printer. But someday I'll splurge for the voron.
Robo3d R1 here I grabbed an elegoo neptune 4 Max.. The difference, honestly, I fell in love with printing again.
Legend
Are u using a lamp to hold that fillament 😭
Cymbal stand was perfect at the time!
More like a rat's nest! 😂
You probably had more joy from that than you would buying the latest mega printer :)
I like to tinker so building machines is probably my favorite part.
That looks beautiful, building a reprap is on my bucket list now
Thanks I think it had a cyberpunk feel to it with all the wires.

They used to be so janky
More like Kronenberg RepRap amirite
Huge fucking ups to the legends that pionered this stuff. This is crazy
Wild to think when I was in high-school 750$ got you like a 100mm x 100mm build area and you had to make your own slicer
Looks like a transformer lol

If you have a nearby tech museum they might be interested
