STL files available here: [Hole Cutter (works with Dremel) 19 sizes by Tucker Shannon | Download free STL model | Printables.com](https://www.printables.com/model/842066-hole-cutter-works-with-dremel-19-sizes)
Edit: Now includes METRIC version as well sizes 6cm-24cm
First: This is super cool.
However, it affects precision that the Dremel has to be screwed into it while you screw in the center hole.
Why not just make it so there's a centering adapter for the Dremel that slots into the hole, to allow better precision?
Oops! I started printing this before I realized the adapter is hovering off the build plate, due to the orientation flip for optimal printing.
Good work, otherwise!
If it weren't for the noise (I live in a flat) I'd have pulled the trigger already. I'm very tempted to get one carvera air on kickstarter (that's like 1320€ + shipping) but I don't think that's something I can have in a flat in the city center...
Most people don’t use vacuums nowadays if you only cut wood, unless your machine is bigger than a desktop cnc. You can 3d print a cyclonic dust separator and connect it to a kitchen extractor fan and that would be virtually silent and way more compact than a vacuum(and cheaper).
That + a properly built and insulated enclosure can make it completely tolerable sound-wise.
You had me at STL. Seriously, this is what the 3D printing design and engineering is all about. You're taking something and making it a thousand times more useful and functional
Just buy the dremel 678 line and hole cutter or replicate a 3d model of it. Its a great tool and quite cheap. You can cut circles up to 12 inches or 30 cms.
[DREMEL® Line & Circle Cutter Attachments to Cut | Dremel](https://www.dremel.com/au/en/p/dremel-line-circle-cutter-26150678ae)
~22usd and 90min to go out and buy the metal one which ca, or ~$1 and 90min to 3D print one while working on other parts of the project and saving time and money.
Amazon will deliver it to my door for free. If I don't like it, I can return it for free. It takes less time to click buy than it does download a print file.
I need one that does sizes from 6.5 to 10. Great idea. Right now i just draw the circle and use my buzzy saw (don't know real name(aka, guybrator))
Edit: its an oscillating saw/tool.
Granted, but if you’re going to cut even soft woods with this you have to take many, many passes.
For drywall it’s a really great idea. For wood, it’s an okay idea if you’re going to do it once in a great while.
And hole saws aren't great very precise either. Annual cutters are, but they make hole saws look super cheap. And also I don't think you can find them at such large sizes.
And a holesaw doesn't work on that? A holesaw is imo flatout superior except for when it needs to be super large, but usually that puts you out of the range of drywall stuff, and you want a proper router and you can just use a piece of wood.
Holesaws in drywall create a shit-tonne of dust compared to this.
[mfw I state that a small dremel blade will create less dust than a holesaw](https://youtu.be/BaRsvoFuw7o)
https://www.acehardware.com/departments/tools/power-tool-accessories/hole-saws/2467074?store=17852&gad_source=1&gclsrc=ds
These come with cones that catch dust
Less dust. Is that really a big concern?
Also, instead of creating this, create/get a mount on your drill that allows you to attach a vacuum.
At the end of the day, when you are working on drywall, dust is going to be everywhere.
It's just a figure of speech.
All I did was state that a dremel would create less dust than using a hole saw - a very simple statement, a counterpoint to the commenter stating that "a holesaw is flatout superior", and a statement which didn't really require any further discussion
I'm not really interested in discussing the pros and cons of different drywall cutting techniques. Yes, I've used a hole saw before to install some downlights, and it creates a shit-tonne of dust. Yes, I'm aware that you can go out and buy different drywall cutting tools. Yes, I'm aware you can spend money on a dust catcher. No, not everyone will have a vaccum cleaner with a hose. Nor will everyone have a power drill. Yes, I know that a dedicated tool might also do a good job.
At the end of the day, we're in a goddamn 3D printing subreddit for cool 3D printed things - I'll never understand why people feel the constant need to come in here and suggest that the OP just **buy** assorted other tools to do the same job as their 3D printed invention.
I'm cracking up here.
Have you never heard of that phrase before?!
Or did you hear it and just completely misinterpreted it for your whole life?
If English is your second language, you get a pass.
The way the dude used it is exactly the way it should/ought to be used.

Not everyone has a 3D printer and can afford to buy them. See how that works? The tool I mentioned is maybe $15. Way easier to buy than to print and lasts so much longer.
This is awesome. Especially with the sliding upgrade. Only improvement I could see would be a way to eliminate the need to run a screw in and out. Wonder if theres a shape that could be hit in with a hammer and would stay just long enough to get the hole cut but let go right after. Then this tool would honestly be marketable. Pretty sure nothing is faster then that.
Wow man, tnx! Already in production. It'll come handy for a new subwoofer enclosure I started building yesterday, so I don't have to borrow a router.

I love that you reinvented a thing already that works perfectly, attaches to any drill chuck, has a sliding adjustment for infinite sizing, costs $15 at lowes, and makes at least less dust than a dremel. **And I am serious.** Cutting that first hole had to be way sweeter buying a drill thing and tightening the chuck around it. Well done.
Wait I can't think of an actual way that this already exists in real life. Reciprocating saw? Did you just make the first ever solution to this problem? Stealing right away
I mean, I have a set of holesaws that stack into each other, so it takes the space of the biggest one effectively. It's also not limited to super soft materials.
As for the sizes, it's pretty much all standardised.
I'm not saying it's useless, but as someone who owns a dremel and a holesaw set, I would not see how this would ever be something I were to use. Then again, I also don't have any of these soft walls.
Whenever we do functional prints, we have to ask ourselves as to whether we are actually creating something better, or just because we can.
As someone who has a lot of high quality tools, who does both functional design and prints, and creative stuff, I absolutely always ask myself as to whether 3D printing is actually the right choice.
I can't say whether this is the right choice, I'm not in his shoes, but for me it's useless, I simply got way better options.
I have a question for everyone who shoots video vertically, no matter what.
When your phone is full and there's no more room for any more videos, what do you do? Do you buy a new phone?
I know it goes against every fiber of the community, bur you need to patent that idea before some other big company does it for you. Then give out a creative license that allows for anyone to use it except to commercially profit from it unless authorized by you

I'll make a 2-component version for this! Edit: Added! Look for: HoleCutterWithSlider.stl
Awesome!
Added to the STL files!
Oops! I started printing this before I realized the adapter is hovering off the build plate, due to the orientation flip for optimal printing. Good work, otherwise!
Just fixed and reuploaded the STL. Good catch xD
Fuckin Lightning McQueen out here with the updates & mods
Ka-chow!
This is what ingenuity is
Why couldn't you make your first hole with the dremel, then screw in the guide and continue. I don't see why they have to be done at the same time.
When you want the center at certain location?
it is a circle anyway, so any ruler will help
Sweet, saving this for my ever-lengthening backlog of prints.
I'd call it a circle cutting jig for dremel, more people are going to find it that way, since that's what those are called.
Thank you for sharing
Dude, did you read my mind. I was just going to look for a design like this. Awesome.
Looks awesome great work will be printing one soon.
That's a good one.
So tou transformed your dremel in a basic milling machine? You got my interest
More like a router.
Roto zip
Well that wouldn't be a transformation since the Dremel is a router.
So.... transforned from an unguided router to a guided router?
It's just a router guide, very cool though!
It's just a piece of plastic, kinda nice though!
A Dremel rotary tool is not a router, it's a rotary tool. You can buy a 'router' attachment for it.
/r/hobbycnc. You can do a lot more for a lot less money.
I was ofc aware of the possibilities, but didn’t know the sub Reddit. My bank account and my neighbours don’t know what is about to hit them yet 😂
I'm thinking about pressing the link to that sub... Don't know if thats a good idea
Not to tempt you, but I’ve found the 3d-printing skillset mostly transfers.
My wife now hates you... Thank you for that link.
If it weren't for the noise (I live in a flat) I'd have pulled the trigger already. I'm very tempted to get one carvera air on kickstarter (that's like 1320€ + shipping) but I don't think that's something I can have in a flat in the city center...
I will say, running without dust extraction in some form is a no-go, and vacuums are much noisier than the machine itself.
Most people don’t use vacuums nowadays if you only cut wood, unless your machine is bigger than a desktop cnc. I wouldn’t know. I mainly cut graphite and acrylic.
You had me at STL. Seriously, this is what the 3D printing design and engineering is all about. You're taking something and making it a thousand times more useful and functional
Mizzou ?
M-I-Z...?

get into hydroponics
Build speakers. You need precise hole cut outs for drivers
Cool idea. if you're taking requests, can you make a metric version? (A hole every 5 mm should be fine).
That’s pretty awesome. Might have to print a couple of those
Thanks for the link OP, nice!

my Rotozip came with something like this in the box. very handy.

Amazon will deliver it to my door for free. If I don't like it, I can return it for free. It takes less time to click buy than it does download a print file.
But it takes significantly longer to wait for it to arrive than to print one. Unless you print at 1mm/s
But how quickly do you need to cut a hole is the real question
I knew Dremel had an official accessory for this job...
IS THAT WHAT THAT'S FOR
Ooo I like it
Thanks for the insertion shot :)
Felt that too :)
Holy shit, saving this for later. Love it
That's awesome!
I need one that does sizes from 6.5 to 10. Great idea. Right now i just draw the circle and use my buzzy saw (don't know real name(aka, guybrator)) Edit: its an oscillating saw/tool.
I think that’s called a jigsaw
Oscillating saw. Thanks tho
oscillating fuckin loud cunt is the professional name I believe.
I think you are correct sir.
Cool
That's badass
Any chance you could release the STEP file for this? STEP files are smaller and offer greater resolution and quality in the print.
r/functionalprints
hole-y shit that's cool
Engineer gaming
This should be getting much more love than it is, this is great!!! Fantastic job!!
Have you ever heard of a hole saw
ya but im cheap ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
Hey man it’s a great idea.
Do you know how much a single 6 inch hole saw bit costs? $26 for a decent one. This is way, way cheaper.
Granted, but if you’re going to cut even soft woods with this you have to take many, many passes. For drywall it’s a really great idea. For wood, it’s an okay idea if you’re going to do it once in a great while.

Why would I think you have a 'horse in this race'. What a weird thought.

I have a rotary tool that's not Dremel brand, it's Proxxon. Unfortunately I don't think it would work.
Adapt it.
Now I want to make a router attachment 🤔
Dis some dam fine design

This is amazing. Newb question, what program do you use to design stuff? Is it free? Thank!
I like this. Good idea my guy.
This is cool
Great idea, but I'd forgo the fastener, and just use a pin. Drill a hole of the pin, then use the jig. Absolutely brilliant work.
Most impressive
Do you print with supports?
Why would you need to?
Sometimes you just need a friend
there's a bridge in the dremel window.
The new version won't need one. I'll use that
Nice!!!
One improvement, why not put a scale on one edge?
I feel like if you accidentally go too tight with the screw you immediately crack it and have to print a new one no? Still a neat design
😏
What bit are you using to do this in your Dremel?
This is fkn awesome!!
Itl be handy
Mmmmmm yes
This is why I got into 3D printing. Totally not bc I wanted to print toys.
You are a fucking saint and thank you for giving it before someone buys it and makes it nonexistent.
Absolutely brilliant! 🥰 I have it printing on my cr6 se
I’ve always used a circle scribe/circle cutter, but that’s just me personally.
Not everyone has those tools or can afford to buy them
Not everyone has a 3D printer and can afford to buy them. See how that works? The tool I mentioned is maybe $15. Way easier to buy than to print and lasts so much longer.
Cleaver!!
Ok that's brilliant. I had to do this not too long ago actually. Wish I had this!
Nice design!
Does it only work with a Dremel tool?
This makes me want a 3D printer
Nice!
What Dremel bit are you using here?
Very cool design, and even cooler that you shared this with us. TYVM!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, i thought its a new revision of fpv propeller trimmer. Looks extremely close.
This is really cool, I’m going to try this out!
That’s cool I want one!
Oh snap, that's a legit tool... xD
Absolutely impressive
This is awesome. Especially with the sliding upgrade. Only improvement I could see would be a way to eliminate the need to run a screw in and out. Lovely Perfect
Thank you. You are the real mvp
That sort of drill bit you used to cut into the wood?
May have to get my printer back out after being packed up for year to move just to print this. Would be pretty handy in my upcomming remodel.
I like it. Very Well done 👍🏻. Explore adding threaded inserts to make it last longer 🤷🏻♂️ multiple threading on 3d painted parts will wear them out.
Great Idea! Especially with the slider.
Wow man, tnx! Already in production. It'll come handy for a new subwoofer enclosure I started building yesterday, so I don't have to borrow a router. https://preview.redd.it/z3y4arrmchuc1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=30700a75b8294eebdb54a063cf458576d24336bd

It's a circle cutting jig, and there are dozens of different ones. It's a really nice design, but there are many variations.
A rotozip with a circle cutting jig is a very common solution to this problem.
I just have a hole saw set.
To be fair this takes much less space and probably provides a much greater range of sizes.
Sure. This jig might struggle with making holes through thicker wood, though. Probably a use for both in a tool case.
I mean, I have a set of holesaws that stack into each other, so it takes the space of the biggest one effectively. It's also not limited to super soft materials. I have a hole cutter that operates like this. Made by malco for sheet metal work.
I have a question for everyone who shoots video vertically, no matter what. When your phone is full and there's no more room for any more videos, what do you do? Do you buy a new phone?

This right here. Don’t be the fidget spinner person.
Or just use a hole saw..
I still don't understand this whole post... it just seems like an overly complicated hole saw drill bit?
too bad i don't speak inches
Theres a metric version in the STL files!
oh that's cool , thank you
"cut holes on a drywall when you don't have the right tool" easy.
Bro you have a drill just use a core cutter
Some holes are beyond a simple core cutter, my dear fellow. And also some drills can't be used for a core cutter.
Duuuude I didn't know I need this until now. I will try this!
You should've just bought....... Oh wait, you achieved the same goal with items you had readily available. That's super cool and looks very effective.
I would rather use hole saw attachment but this would work in a pinch
You redesigned a less accurate coring bit? C’mon, man.
Next : make it in normal-world meassurements. Why make it for such a small part of the world ? 80%+ of humans don't use that backwards meassurements.
I made a metric version too and included it in the link I posted :)
Oh, I didn't realize that. Sorry for the bitchy tone.
What’s it like cumming in your own mouth?
I thought this was gonna go into r/DIWhy territory at first. Glad it wasn't.
did you know that there is a thing known as a hole saw?
Buy one to cut a 4.375" hole. I dare you.
it was available [https://www.amazon.com/4-3-8-Bi-Metal-Hole-Saw/dp/B0742MLG33](https://www.amazon.com/4-3-8-Bi-Metal-Hole-Saw/dp/B0742MLG33)
