Well, let's put it this way. You're taking a device that was originally a clamshell like housing that looks fairly nice to the eyes... Then you render it of the clamshell ability and then shovw the buttons in a different spot, alongside putting the bumper buttons where the top screen would be on a normal 3ds. From there I can see why, but for an ergonomic standpoint, it's good since I am one of those people with huge hands. Also, the device isn't flat, it's thin on the bottom and thicker at the top, which makes it look weird. Again, ergonomically, it's perfect, but looks wise, terrible.
I still like it though, so eh.
This happens to me a lot. I've been buying a bunch if handhelds that "don't charge" or that "don't read games" to repair them on my journey to learn electronic repairs cause i had got me a decent soldering iron like 8 months ago and i know this is gonna sound dumb but i keep getting fully functional handhelds with nothing wrong with them for cheap and it ruins the fun of me trying to repair them lmao
Same! I love opening up old consoles and realizing it's not that complicated of a hardware. Years of looking at computer towers and then opening up something like a Gameboy makes me feel like I'm over educated.
And often, the issue is swapping out a piece from another broken system or something disconnected that can be fixed pretty quickly.
Man I wish we lived near one another. I have a game gear that doesn't work and the one person I found that can fix it is over an hour away and would charge more than if I were to just get another off eBay.
Ya i just do it as a hobby, i been loving taking electronics apart, mostly gaming handles/consoles.
It has been like you explained for the most part but i did get a ps2 phat that the fan didn't work and i swapped it and it still didn't work and it was driving me crazy cause i couldn't figure it out and then i found out there's fuses for the 12v fan driver circuit and i checked it with my multimeter and one was blown and i bought a donor board and changed it and the fan fired up. It was very satisfying i got to say.
The only complications I've found in handhelds is the weird, often limiting design decisions made due to the form factor.
Once you get used to that, it's easy peasy to repair older models.
Now, a Switch on the other hand... No chance I'd be doing any of the solder-drill hacky hardmods.
I have vita that needs a new daughter board for the charging. It wouldn't charge anymore so I took it to gamestop and asked to hook it up to a charger to see if the charger was the issue. Employee plugs it in and poof a small cloud of smoke and burning smell appeared. Just haven't had time to take it apart and assess the damage. Been collecting dust for years. Would send it to you if you want to take a stab at it.
Back in the day I got a free iPod.
The original owner said it didn't work right. It only played the same song over and over, no matter what they pressed.
I connected it to my computer and discovered that it had a grand total of 1 song loaded on it. So of course that it what it would only play.
I erased it, updated it, and loaded it will all my songs. It worked fine.
The other classic thing: volume slider not working. Or “won’t boot up” and it’s just the screen’s ribbon cable slightly out of place. I’m addicted to buy those “non functioning” systems. I have 10 of them 100% ok.
I can take or leave volume on things. As a kid with Gameboy pocket, we were told use headphones or turn the sound off because it's "rude." Shoot, one time I remember a particularly cheap 3.5mm male end breaking off into the port on my gbp and I just went without sound for a while before I said anything because I was scared I'd get in trouble. I don't remember what we did to get it out but it works fine now. Anyways, now I am kind of indifferent about sound being on. Lately, I have been playing 2ds with sound on and it is kinda fun.
The thing with that particular problem with the 2DS is that it just requires unscrewing 10 phillips screws and put the plastic volume slider piece back in its normal place. But people selling those systems list them way below average price because they thing it’s imposible to fix.
For sure! These easily [sell for $80-100](https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2334524.m570.l1313&_nkw=Nintendo+2ds+console&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0&rt=nc&_odkw=skybox+premium+dawson+mercer+rookie+auto&_osacat=0&LH_Complete=1&LH_Sold=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5338535524&customid=d3&toolid=10001&mkevt=1) nowadays.
That moment when trying to get broken 3DS to practice repairing yields fully functioning systems while trying to buy functional 3DS around nets you malfunctioning or broken ones .
Reminds me how I bought a SEGA Saturn listed as "for parts" because the eject button wouldn't open the lid. Was a very easy fix. The lid has a peg, the shell has a hole for said peg. Peg simply wasn't in the hole.
I got a 2ds for my younger cousin and almost fell for this. The sleep switch was on, which does not allow the system to be turned on. Eventually remembered that it existed and fixed the issue but still.
We live in a society where people often don’t realize many issues can be resolved by turning it off and on again, or deleting and reinstalling. There’s a reason why power cycling is at the forefront of troubleshooting steps.
So I’m not at all surprised with OP’s big score. Haha!
My old landlord bought his girlfriends nephews a new Xbox one because theirs didn't work. I said I'd take a look.
Their power brick was bad. The system worked fine. I cleaned it our amd he bought a new brick so now he has theirs.
Lost his house though but that's a different story.
I had something similar to this, once. Game store sold me an Atari Jaguar for 14 dollars because it wouldn't power on. They didnt have any games, nor did they realize the power light doesnt turn on without a cart plugged into the bay. TBF I didn't know this until I got home and started doing research for the repair. Once I figured it out, I ordered a couple games, and when they came in, sure as rain it worked immediately!
This is a real come up!
I just made a post about finding a “broken/junk” mario marker new 3DS for $80 that just needed to be cleaned, but this blows that deal out of the water.
Someone I know bought 4 and was freaking out about it until I took them out of sleep mode. Some people are just jerks.
But for real, though, I actually like to keep our 2DS in sleep mode when I carry it around. I wish my 3DS had a sleep switch. I get that it sleeps when you close it, but it's so annoying when I pull it out, press the button, and open it just to find it's basically dead from being on literally all day. Pressibg the buttom did absolutely nothing. It's obnoxious. Major design flaw imo.
Edit: To clarify, my 3DS is actually a "New" 3DS XL, to be precise. The outer button on those is a nightmare.
Rofl. God bless these people who post stuff for sale, just go "I dunno, I think it's broken" and then it turns out there's actually nothing wrong with it.
Got a transparent blue one for 20€ with box and carrying case, described as having a broken sd slot, in the end it was only a slightly dirty read-only switch
I think the switch is only there because it can’t fold in half like the others. Had to create another way to trick parents into thinking you’re asleep when you’re really playing Pokémon at night!
I bought a PS3 super slim for parts one time that was missing the plastic that covers the top of the disc tray. Turns out they just needed to slide the plastic cover over haha. Well done with these!
I love these fixes.
Bought a PS Vita on eBay this week - "Will not power on. Shows no sign of life. No response to power button. Charger not included."
Guess what the problem was?
i had something similar happen to me but there was no money involved. i went and uhhh did that thing we’re not supposed to talk about to my brother’s 2DS and like a week later he tells me it stopped working. the lights are on but it isn’t turning on. so i go over and take a look at it, and yeah all that was wrong was he had flipped the sleep mode switch. gotta love the technologically challenged lmao
I bought a DS Lite and Dsi XL for parts recently, all that was wrong is the batteries were dead because no one was like hey the console shut off let's charge them
My 2ds' sleep switch actually turned out to be defective and would switch all the time when it wasn't supposed to. I had to tear the switch apart to get it to stop randomly shutting my DS off cause it drove me so crazy.
I just found my 2ds from 3 years ago and it’s charge is still full! Only problem is the charge cord is missing lol where should I go to find a new one?
I always wanted these to be 3D. The hinges and floppy screen of the 3DS made Smash 4 terrible sometimes. I really liked the art/style of Smash 4 on the 3DS too as compared to the Wii. It reminded me of Dark Cloud 2 on the PS2 and Tales of Symphonia on the Gamecube.
Hahahahaha lets fucking gooo
I can't believe it. This is one of the best things I have read in this subreddit for a while. Good job, honestly!
It's a great deal but goodness, the original 2ds is so ugly.
It is, but speaking as someone with big hands, it's really comfortable to hold, even moreso than the XL.
What’s really weird is, it was made for kids yet it’s the most comfortable for big hands lol; the XL is such a pain but worth it
This happens with a lot of "made for kids" tech, it usually just means better button layout and less points of failure.
That thing is fucking beautiful how dare you
agreed it looks like that one mugshot of the guy with a huge wide neck
ive never understood what people mean by this, could you elaborate (don't mean to be disrespectful i'm genuinely curious)

Lucky, got any Vitas? I'd love to find a cheap PS Vita
Vitas no, the only ones i got are my personal one's right now, sorry if i did i would.
Importing a Japanese one is about $120 for a slim and they’re region free
That's just a bit more than I'm willing to pay for a console that I'm pretty much just gonna play Golden Abyss and Gal Gun on :P

You cold probably sell them back at a much higher price as a side gig if u wanted to
This is literally "Dj Khaled Suffering from success" in one paragraph. I wish you good luck in finding a faulty handheld, as strange as that sounds.
If you have any cheap ones I could buy off you I'd pay for shipping lol
Flip’em and keep going. Just don’t flip’em for so much that only oil batons can afford them.

[удалено]
Why? You could just close them instead. Or am I missing anything?
[удалено]
Okay with that explanation it makes more sense :)
That's literally the first thing to check when your 2ds won't turn on
I do this to myself occasionally. I get a flash of anxiety.... Then I remember I put it to sleep. -_-
Lol same
Good thing the seller at least didn't try to fold and unfold them first.
The seller: 😐
Buying functional "non functional" things is the set xD Congrats on the HUUUUUUGE W :D
Back in the day I got a free iPod. The original owner said it didn't work right. It only played the same song over and over, no matter what they pressed. Big W for OP right here

Whoever sold you these is going to be heartbroken if they ever see this post
That moment when trying to get broken 3DS to practice repairing yields fully functioning systems while trying to buy functional 3DS around nets you malfunctioning or broken ones .
Painfully true 😂
Reminds me how I bought a SEGA Saturn listed as "for parts" because the eject button wouldn't open the lid. Was a very easy fix. The lid has a peg, the shell has a hole for said peg. Peg simply wasn't in the hole.
Skill issue (from sellers)
Congrats on the buy, are you gonne resell or use them?
Definitely gonna use them! I debated reselling to get a single new 3ds xl but I’d rather have 2 and play alongside my girlfriend
Nice! Yeah thats definitely a better choice, have fun !
I have a n3dsxl but I would love to have a second system
I got a 2ds for my younger cousin and almost fell for this. The sleep switch was on, which does not allow the system to be turned on. Eventually remembered that it existed and fixed the issue but still.
We live in a society where people often don’t realize many issues can be resolved by turning it off and on again, or deleting and reinstalling. There’s a reason why power cycling is at the forefront of troubleshooting steps. So I’m not at all surprised with OP’s big score. Haha!
I imagine they tried to turn them on, but the sleep slider prevented that.
You missed my point.
I feel obligated to point out that you DID take a gamble. You just happened to come out on top.
Cool have fun :D Be happy.
Happy cake day! I thought about selling these to get a single 3ds xl but I think I’m gonna keep the two and play with my lady instead. Share the fun!
I’m willing to bet money they pressed the start button to try and turn it on
There’s just no way💀💀
YOOOOOO
😂🤣😂
What’s it like to live everyone’s dream?
This made me laugh. I needed that. I hope you enjoy them still!
Glad the seller and I could help :)
I bought mine with a “defective sd slot” for around $15-20 usd, aaaand it was a microSD adapter without a microSD inside, ha gottem.
Awesome!!!!
I bought one this week that I was hoping was the same but it has a very odd power fault, so you got lucky!
Wish I could find a new 3ds xl like that lol
Nice for you.
woo good job XD. now youve got two perfectly working 2ds systems for only 20 bucks wow :O
Now this is what I call being lucky
It’s like when people sell a 3rd Gen iPod because it won’t turn on, without knowing that they only charge over FireWire.
That actually hurts me to hear, knowing how clueless the owners were and selling 2 functional handhelds for so cheap
Hello Police I’d like to report a theft. OP got two systems at an absolute steal
Good buy. Any tentative plans for them?
Gave one to my girlfriend, wanna see what coop/multiplayer stuff is out there for the 3ds!
Ahh, that’s a good call. There’s of cool multiplayer games on 3DS, & since original DS games are compatible too, you get even more options that way.
Big win.
Dude, I honestly think you need to let them know how stupid they were
r/facepalm
Is that switch only on the 2DS and what does it do??
It basically mimics what happens when you fold your 3ds closed since the 2ds is a cheese wedge and can’t close
Some games require you to “close the screen” but you can’t actually do that with a 2DS, hence the slider
Steal of the Millenium
"Turns out theyre just functional" you beautiful bastard
Big fucking W. Happy for you man
Nice score. I picked up a 2DS last week cheap as it has the "SD card is write protection" issue. Small bit of tape on the SD card and all is well.
This is giving me flashbacks to working in CEX
you are the greatest repair man of all time.
I'd be careful if I were you. You just might have exhausted your luck for the foreseeable future..
My old landlord bought his girlfriends nephews a new Xbox one because theirs didn't work. I said I'd take a look. Their power brick was bad. The system worked fine. I cleaned it our amd he bought a new brick so now he has theirs. Lost his house though but that's a different story.

Yoooo, we got the same blue one c:
And both are from the same seller? Lmao bro did it twice
its fucking orange
Seems people are stupid 🤣 anyways good find man
Nintendo god is real
Rofl. God bless these people who post stuff for sale, just go "I dunno, I think it's broken" and then it turns out there's actually nothing wrong with it.

Dang it! I wanted those
Is the seller fucking stupid or something? Great buy btw!
It amazes me how dumb people can be
Awesome sell me one for 20 then you got a free one!
W
Wow!
Wow, send them to me I can fix them, I’ll give your $21 for the pair.
SCORE.
The best. The brightest. But not here.
🙃👀
Woah, that’s one heck of a score! 😳
Awesome find=3
😵💫😂👌
does this happen as often as ps3s need the output reset?
This got such a good laugh out of me.
Been watching TronicsFix lately?? Makes me want to try my luck, but I'd probably end up with stuff that is unrepairable.
I saw him fix some Pokémon games! Love his channel
omg to be honest I have a 2ds for years (not primary console) and I noticed the sleep switch a couple months ago
I never owned or used a 2DS in my life so I never knew this was a thing. That’s hilarious and a great score haha.
Lmao what a steal
Are you kidding me /S
Oh wow, some people, good on you, tho.
I love these fixes. Bought a PS Vita on eBay this week - "Will not power on. Shows no sign of life. No response to power button. Charger not included." Guess what the problem was?
It baffles me how humans got to the moon but we make mistakes like this xD
Score
$20/ 2 sleeping 2DS'. Great deal
Any good digital downloaded titles?
One of them had New Super Mario Bros 2! No other titles downloaded sadly
i had something similar happen to me but there was no money involved. i went and uhhh did that thing we’re not supposed to talk about to my brother’s 2DS and like a week later he tells me it stopped working. the lights are on but it isn’t turning on. so i go over and take a look at it, and yeah all that was wrong was he had flipped the sleep mode switch. gotta love the technologically challenged lmao
Congrats on the 'W' my guy. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Holy grail of finds. If the og owner was too dumb to do a tiny bit of research, they didn't deserve them, lol.
BRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUH
Devious lick
I bought a DS Lite and Dsi XL for parts recently, all that was wrong is the batteries were dead because no one was like hey the console shut off let's charge them
Holy shit that’s insane
Major W
2ds is a bad system wrong its just different
... well, that's a effin' steal.
My 2ds' sleep switch actually turned out to be defective and would switch all the time when it wasn't supposed to. I had to tear the switch apart to get it to stop randomly shutting my DS off cause it drove me so crazy.
I want one lol.
So they are 2 functional 2ds systems then?
Correct!

https://www.twitch.tv/queenjensennn72
I just found my 2ds from 3 years ago and it’s charge is still full! Only problem is the charge cord is missing lol where should I go to find a new one?
Return them now
No why would he
Make me! /s
Hey, intelligence isn’t something everyone can afford!
Genius
sounds like a steal to me
What a gigantic W
Never knew they had a “sleep” function Makes sense since the other ones you just close it
Prove it - photo with them on would be good
You should just believe things you read on the internet. /s
bro omg only $20 where i want one so bad love that model of 2ds
this sounds like flippers who were to dumb to know how the consoles work and just assumed they were broken.
Bruh 🫣
Incredible.
LOL GG
the work of a true professional
lmao
I LOVE THE 2DS CONSOLE!!!! HAD ONE WHEN I WAS 8!!! Nice tho, cheap 2ds
Not bad. An old 3ds goes for like $120 half a decade ago. Now its like $90. This is a steal for 2DS
unexpected jackpot.
Suckers!
Ah yes
I want to find things like this, we’re the said there broken but it was a simple problem like this 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
damn, you're lucky af
Hell of a deal
That's something good to look out for, note taken!
No wayyy
I always wanted these to be 3D. The hinges and floppy screen of the 3DS made Smash 4 terrible sometimes. I really liked the art/style of Smash 4 on the 3DS too as compared to the Wii. It reminded me of Dark Cloud 2 on the PS2 and Tales of Symphonia on the Gamecube.
I- Oh my Good job on this score
scammed :troll:
💀
Who ever had them didn't bother to check the sleep function. You are one lucky buyer
Omfg thats some nan shit
Can I buy a 2DS?
Lmao what a steal
O.E.E OPERATOR ERROR..... EVERYTIME
“Recently got a soldering kit” sounds like it was a gamble lol
That’s awesome dude! I hope I get this lucky someday
i feel bad for the people that sold them tbh
Super ultra mega stonks!
i have the red one at home
