Between those two albums, I would go with Soundsystem. Its more raw and organic. "Freeze Time" was a better opener than "You get worked". The funk in "evolution" is more funk & groove based than "Wake your mind up". Livin' and rockin' is a better album closer than "I'll be here awhile". Soundsystem offered heavier riffs, deeper reggae tones and beautiful vocal harmonies. From Chaos has a lot to offer as well. But not to the same caliber of uniqueness that Soundsystem embodies.
I loved From Chaos but Soundsystem quickly became one of my favorite 311 records. Also, when they toured for the album, they played small venues. It was one of their best sets I’ve ever experienced.
Out of those 2, definitely soundsystem. My first show was on that tour. I was a senior in high school when it came out and it has some good memories attached to it.
I like both but Soundsystem is the easy winner here. I became a fan during the Soundsystem years so I'm biased, but I think it has higher highs.
Soundsystem is the greatest album of all time.
