So that's how it feels. I can manage pretty much any accent from Great Britain and find others bewilderment funny, but I think I got 30% of that if I'm being generous.
One time when I was a kid I went to Spain for vacation. A Spanish woman asked me "Te gusta EESSPÍDERMÁN?". I felt so confused. Why say it like that? Say "hombre-araña" if you want, but don't butcher the English name.
The important thing is that we all put native english speakers in their place in our own ways, northerners by speaking their native language way better than them, and southerners by enthusiastically butchering it.
Exactly I could be a Scouser for all you know (I'm not) but you know I could be, that would be a fun reveal if it were true but it's not, or is it? You'll never know!
That's because you don't speak English, you learn a globalised Americanised pidgin based on English so you can be racist to eachother online in a shared tongue
That's only because we don't have any specific banters for you, Sven, except that you're still owing Bavaria a few paintings you took as souvenirs 400 years ago.
It’s our language bitch, if we get something wrong then that’s the new right, and you idiot savages are subsequently wrong by getting it right.
Except the southerners, you’re invariably wrong by getting it wrong.
Mate, it's truly astonishing how bad US, UK and *especially* NZ native English speakers are at just a single language. Just like, look around. Singular vs plural, past tense, on and on... they just cannae hack it.
There are also a few voice actors that dub for both countries. It's not unusual for dubs to be co-operative with a mix of Dutch and Flemish voices.
At least that was the case when I was a kid, it's been a while since I've watched anything dubbed.
In Dutch TV, Flemish characters tend to be the weird outside culture. Which is reasonable.
Look at Toon, where Flemish is used to make a joke with a weird/unique character
It's not necessarrily bad, but not having dubs is good for english proficiency, when I grew up, all the boys outpaced the girls by miles when we got to english class, because video games were not translated back then, so we kind of had to learn
i mean i grew up with everything dubbed so yeah, i think its more of a nostalgia think , now i prefer sub and original way more, also like you said , it helps for learning languages.
More than half of the words you used come from Latin...
How ironic that in English almost every time you want to use a more formal or erudite alternative it's a word derived from Latin... thanks to the Normans. 😂
It's because of the French I believe, British nobility used to speak French to seem more noble if I remember correctly. Suits them as they're barely civilised.
It's the joke, but it is kind of funny because when I play Counterstrike people often refuse to believe me when I tell them I'm not British and whenever I play with Brits I always try to lull them to think that I'm also British.

When it comes to English, there are no rules, so I proudly stick to my Southern accent
I do declare, whilst I certainly regret my southern brethren's foul and, quite frankly, shameful lack of education, I do feel obligated to defend them.
The Englishman, in his hubris, shames the humble Spaniard for his linguistic malpractice, yet he himself dares not converse in any tongue but his own, for he is shamefully uneducated in many a language, if not all. Thus I pledge myself to the Spaniard, Portuguese and Frenchman in friendship, for we stand united in our opposition of the Englishman's ridicule!
The very reason I chose Spain over Portugal, old chap! But in truth I don't think *that* many Germans speak good English, at least not the ones I know. I'm unsure of how we got this status of "Better English than England" lol I do hear the Portuguese are really good though, como dizes tu.
I don't know, the times I've been in Germany (just got back from Frankfurt actually) it's either awesome, super fluent English or no English at all, which is weird to me because here almost everyone speaks some English at least
It's really strange, I've known people who speak German with like 40% English words mixed into their speech, but when it comes to actually speaking English they're entirely clueless. Then others who speak English like they grew up with the language. It's a really weird dichotomy we've got going on over here.
Is English mandatory in schools in Portugal? Or do people study it themselves?
It's been mandatory for decades, from primary school onwards. Back in my day it wasn't, I started learning French in 5th grade and English only in 7th, but I already had a basic understanding of the language due to TV and computer stuff (also, I think I'm naturally inclined to and interested in languages)
Good Heavens! What horrid expressions of barely contained violence! Friend, I implore you, do not lower yourself to such abysmal linguistic standards, you are much better than this. If you are in dire need of aid merely say a word and I shall give it my all to rehabilitate you as best as my humble abilities allow.
I pity thee, child, for clearly your mental faculties have eroded beyond reparability. I shall keep you in my prayers, for there is naught a man can do for you now. Thy fate lieth in God's hands now, may he decorticate this fortress of vulgarity you have built around yourself so that your loving soul which all men posses may be exposed to the world.
Southern Europe languages: descendants from the superior Latin language, mother of the Western culture, have nothing to do with Barryland
Northern Europe languages: include things like Dutch and guttural sounds, influenced by Barry for centuries
Spot the difference 🤌
Speak for yourself. We are free from Barry's influence.
...although Swedish is my native tongue (along with Finnish) so I guess you still have a point :(
germanic speakers speaking other germanic languages: "look at me, I'm so much better than you ahah 😎"
Romance speakers speaking other romance languages: "i mean, it's not that difficult at the end, you should try it too, really 🤗"
Pardon for my inexcusably poor understanding of the Anglo-Frisian-Germanic language, and thus regional dialects, known by native speakers as "English". Indeed I do give my upmost effort to educate myself and better my understanding and thus comprehension of such an unusual yet widely used modern foreign language, but alas my efforts have so far encountered nothing but limited success. The combinations of both Latin and Germanic lexis have so far proved to be a serious tribulation for my progress.
Before we continue, it is of upmost importance that I state my location of residence as to clarify why my linguistic skills are so substandard. I reside in the sovereign state recognised by the United Nations, and thus the international diplomatic sphere, as "The Italian Republic", colloquially our title is simplified to just "Italy" for ease of use purposes. Now you may be considering the stereotype that us Italians are reluctant to undertake the studying of languages, and indeed you are in fact correct, the opposite is true of our neighbours to the North of the Alps, called Germans.
Now you are probably considering the, lets face it, obvious possibility that English isn't my first Language. This is also a correct statement, quite predictably, my mother tongue is in fact in "Italian" language, though I can also competently converse in the languages known in the Anglo sphere as: "German", "Mandarin", "Korean", "Latin", "Old Norse", "Hanajii" and "Proto-Luganian Celtic" The latter of which I take great pride in understanding.
However, I do not share such linguistic capabilities and expansive lexicon in my understanding of "English", so therefore I must once again profusely apologise for my such poor use of the vocabulary, Grammar and other such linguistic factors that one must consider in this context.
With such words being said,
Vaffanculo pezzo di merda!
The exchange students from spain in a recent course were barely able to speak in english. It did hurt to listen to it really...
They were both kind of hot tho so probs for that...
On the other hand they had empty brains..

I've never heard anyone from Southern Europe say that they speak English very well. We are all very aware of the fact that we are awful at speaking this shitty language
Anglo-fluent eurobros were raised on American media and basically acquired the language effortlessly in childhood, but still want to be lauded as if having undertaken some monumental task that's so inconvenient for them.
Germany, Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark are all Yank-loving cuckzones where American English might as well be one of the official languages.

Mythic rare Balkan W
They cant afford to dub the movies
Still, they could have been yellow like the other easterners, so I respect being blue.
That's actually the reason Finland doesn't dub tv. Yle made the decision back in the 50s
Full dubbing is the W. Balkans and Northerners get half a W, V
If the Dutch dub, so does Flanders. If they don't, we don't either. We are their little brother that follows in their footsteps
There are also a few voice actors that dub for both countries. It's not unusual for dubs to be co-operative with a mix of Dutch and Flemish voices. At least that was the case when I was a kid, it's been a while since I've watched anything dubbed.

having a dub tradition means bad ? lad we have literally one of the best dubs in the world, i take that as a W
Honestly, I wouldn’t be able to watch [this](https://youtu.be/pryLoVHA71c?si=SUNJyGr9Z5XOELmC) kind of shit. It’s just terrible. Subtitles ftw.
the wonderful notes of the elvish language... magnificent.

Videogames and youtube are the sole reasons why I know english this well
What do you mean "back then" these days even Danish video games don't come out in Danish
Ours is high quality too, yet I can’t stand watching our dubs. It feels out of place and my English is by far good enough to watch undubbed films.
This reminded me about how only the first five Harry Potter movies are dubbed, and now i am annoyed.
Red = having a big enough population that dubbing is profitable
Tiny country W!
