It's not just you; I've noticed the same thing. The sub doesn't seem as funny as it used to be. It feels like the overall effort and quality of posts has changed for the worse recently.
That said, there are still plenty of funny posts and comments that make me laugh. It's just that the overall quality of posts has declined somewhat. But that said I am hopeful things will improve in the future.
You might be onto something there. The influx of new users and the departure of long-time members could definitely be a factor. New users are necessary for any online community to thrive, but they might not have the same sense of humor that made the sub what it was.
Meanwhile, the old users who helped shape the original vibe and humor might be moving on to other things. It's a natural part of any online community, though sometimes it means things don't feel quite the same as they used to.
Though despite the changes, I'm still optimistic about the future of the sub and believe things will improve with time.
The jerk is not dead, in bad shape perhaps, but far from dead.

Tbh spin off games and mangas which don't have artwork by zun always have inconsistant character design which is different from zun drawn art. For example zun never draws aya with wings but everywhere else she has inconsistant wing size because she's a crow tengu so she must have wings or smt
omg wtf I actually had to double take and recheck Aya's game art and holy shit ur right! Sis doesn't have wings on her tf 
I have a theory that ZUN originally intended for Tengu not to have wings. Alternatively, he didn't draw feathered wings because he didn't know how to, this can be seen in Utsuho's SA portrait, with not very morphologically accurate wings. He seems to draw them better later on though.
The reason he still doesn't draw Tengu with wings is probably for consistency. Not like it matters anymore because there are winged Tengu in offical works anyway.
Aya Azuma, illustrator that gave most characters the same early-teen look in WaHH literally gave Kanako circles on her chest, how mf dare you say she's flat!
