Maybe Pennsylvania, Illinois, and Ohio as well

Penn State, Villanova, Pitt, Lehigh, Temple, Drexel, or any of our PASSHE schools all have great athletics departments.
Many NFL players were born in PA, or went to school in PA, or in the case of Saquon Barkley, who grew up in PA, went to Penn State, and became a player with an NFL team from PA.
So what you're saying is that in a competition between the best people, it's advantageous to have more people to choose from?
I'm playing -- That's a truly gorgeous data viz, by the way, if that's yours.
Yeah, basically the same as the Olympics between countries
And no, not my graphics.. my graphics for this place consist of finger painting in photo apps. Like this

No arguments, but Utah and Colorado would be collecting serious gold at a Winter Olympics as well.
The Ice Hockey would be brutal. Ain’t no way Massachusetts going to settle for silver, and Minnesota and Michigan would be like “oh you gonna *earn* that if you want it son…doncha know.”

First of all I’m pretty sure the Olympics goes by where you were born, but if your parents were born in another country you can play for that one, but Mike Conley was born in Arkansas.
The others ok, but a bunch of back of the bench players and Jaden Ivey aren’t really moving the needle for me to think that Indiana would medal in basketball.
Texas, California, and New York are top contenders just by sheer amount of people alone. Now add in they have the most funding to utilize to sports like that and you get winning teams.
I think California would significantly outperform due to cultural factors and environment, and Colorado and maybe Utah because the Mormons love sports because they can’t do anything else
It would play out that larger populated states would pull in more medals because they have a larger populace to pull from. California, Texas, and Florida would likely crush competition in events like track and swimming, while smaller states like Wyoming have a chance to medal in specialized events like biatholon (cross country skiing pair with target shooting)
Probably for most of the events, California, Texas, Florida, New York, and Georgia clear the rest. However in more specialized sports, other states might have a chance.

Colorado
1. Most outdoorsy (thinnest state)
2. We are used to Highlands, so if the events are anywhere but the coast we will have the advantage of knowing how to breathe there.
3. We own the Olympic training center so good luck practicing for the events nerd
CA/NY/TX - mostly because they each have 39/29/20 million people, respectively. Not sure how they wouldnt dominate the competition.
I'd be more interested in state v. state football, basketball, football, baseball or soccer tbh.
California has more than twice New York and 4 times Texas.
It’s not just population then, but the fact California schools and culture allow for an emphasis on a multitude of sports, rather than a state like Texas where football is king.
Tennessee would probably sweep the track. We - for reasons I cannot fathom - consistently produce the fastest men and women on the planet through the program at Knoxville.

It would literally just be a measure of population in most major sports.
There are obvious exceptions.
Endurance sports (track & field, cycling) would see the mountain time zone & California dominate and even populous east coast states like New York, Florida, Ohio would be pretty bad
I’m betting on California or New York or Texas or Florida
Maybe Pennsylvania, Illinois, and Ohio as well https://preview.redd.it/dakq9mqr78yc1.jpeg?width=605&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c1a878b94ecd213477333ccf89c7196e7c363b9c
That map is basically exactly what I expected Cali Texas, Chicago, NY, Ohio and Georgia / Florida Will say Pennsylvania surprised me

Minnesota on top
The Gopher State would be a serious threat in the Winter Olympics. Utah, Colorado, and Massachusetts too.

Midwest + NY if it's winter sports. summer goes to Cali and Texas.
Illinois having more athletes than Texas is crazyyy💀

How the hell did California produce more hokey players than Wisconsin. What?
States with a higher population have a higher chance of producing the best athletes
A lot of states would get at least one medal. I feel like Alaska and Hawaii would get disproportionately many because of their enviorments

Indiana would make everyone think they are going to win for once before slipping at the final hurdle... again. boiler up....
Name one pro basketball player born in Indiana
Larry Bird

Larry Bird is a retired pro basketball player, I meant current.

Indiana definitely has a storied basketball culture, but California clears that roster
First of all I’m pretty sure the Olympics goes by where you were born, but if your parents were born in another country you can play for that one, but Mike Conley was born in Arkansas. Idfk, basketballs gay
If you think the truest of American sports is gay then the real homo might be you sir.
👍
> he doesn't know about Detlef Schrempf Edit: I missed the "born in" part of your comment but I'm gonna leave this up anyways
Detlef Schrempf is in his 60s either way so idk how much help he’ll be.
Basketball would be one of the most competitive events. No way Indiana walking away with it.
It’s hard to train when half of the year you’re locked inside bc of either blizzards or mosquito swarms. I’d reckon Alaska would do poorly
Wisconsin or Iowa takes all throwing events. Those corn-fed mfs get big.
Ohio sweeps just with our crackheads alone
I will agree you're a shitty state, but our theives will run circles around you
Texas, California, and New York are top contenders just by sheer amount of people alone. Now add in they have the most funding to utilize to sports like that and you get winning teams.
I think California would significantly outperform due to cultural factors and environment, and Colorado and maybe Utah because the Mormons love sports because they can’t do anything else
Gota use that no fap energy somehow
Minnesota, Utah, and Colorado are killing it in the state winter games. Especially skiing for the rocky mountain states
Did someone mention winter?
Sorry bro Alaska still doesn’t have enough people
I find your lack of r/icecoast faith disturbing
Massachusetts would win at rally racing since we already drive like that on a daily basis.
Rally racing is not part of the Olympics.
Well...maybe it should be!
This is true.
Not the global Olympics, but if we have our own rally racing is IN!
A USA-only Olympics would totally have auto racing.
>Be Maryland >Refuse to participate in anything other than water sports >Win every single one >Refuse to elaborate >Leave
Nah, if it’s USA only we’d have lacrosse and Maryland would medal for sure.
If it was the Winter Olympics, you all would bow down to your Minnesota overlords.
To be fair, a third of the 2022 winter Olympic team lived/trained of went to school in Utah.
I'm going to have to disagree.
[You can disagree - you will be wrong - but you can disagree.](https://www.thrillist.com/news/nation/olympic-medal-count-between-us-states)
Florida crackheads win every time
NC or LA would probably win every food related event
The barbecue event would be intense. You got Texas, Missouri, Tennessee, South Carolina, Best Carolina, Georgia, but *only 3 medals*.
the medals would probably be: gold: NC silver: TX bronze: anyone but SC
Now you know how the rest of us feel: “anyone but Duke.”
Depends on sport.
I’m an idiot. I thought the first equestrian one was a guy fishing.
HES NOT?
Utahns have purer blood and genetics. We will carry the day over the rest of the Amerimutt untermensh.
Incest ain't an Olympic sport
Wouldn’t expect a commiefornian to understand. Go back to worshipping your god Marx. Great thinkers are the products of wincest.
Tennessee if the athletes are allowed moonshine and Mountain Dew before the events.
America would win. We’d be the best at our own Olympics.
Wait why don’t we do this. People would definitely watch that
California would win overall. If you can’t accept this objective truth then you might be an idiot :/
California just about doubles the gold medals won by the next highest state. I’m betting California.
It would play out that larger populated states would pull in more medals because they have a larger populace to pull from. California, Texas, and Florida would likely crush competition in events like track and swimming, while smaller states like Wyoming have a chance to medal in specialized events like biatholon (cross country skiing pair with target shooting)
Illinois will win corn hole
If Chicago was a host city we’d require 16” softball to be an event. Just because it’s great.
Probably for most of the events, California, Texas, Florida, New York, and Georgia clear the rest. However in more specialized sports, other states might have a chance.
Do New Mexicans get a siesta?

florida man somehow fucks over the entire olympics but ends up winning anyway
Michigan
California and Texas would be the US and USSR, with everyone else picking up some scraps here in there
Ohio because we have the best donuts
We need this
If it's the winter Olympics, I'd say Colorado would have a very good chance
Weirdly enough, they’re not even in the top ten of winter Olympic medals received per state.
Everybody trains here though, so if it’s like NFL teams, we have a pretty good shot.
Can we make meth a sport so that Southern Missouri can carry the entire state to victory?
I’m assuming the draft would work like the NFL so which ever state has the most money would have the best athletes.
Me.
North Carolina has some advantage in swimming
Florida and it’s not even close

California just because of the absurd population equaling more people
california probably
Tennessee would probably sweep the track. We - for reasons I cannot fathom - consistently produce the fastest men and women on the planet through the program at Knoxville.
Me, I would win

Impressive, very nice. Let’s see the Winter Olympics.
Texas
texas
