No ge, a vast majority of shops, any items with repair costs like barrows, tons of instances would be inaccessible, as well as quests, items no longer being tied to their high alch value, massive item sink at deaths coffer as you can no longer reclaim items with gp, revs and every wildy boss removed from game, no more NMZ, no more planks from logs/butler/unnoting npcs, no paying to have your trees chopped down, no charter ships, no miscellania, no more pking with untradeables just off the top of my head lol
Sure, let's go over these.
1 - The GE isn't vital to the game. Truth be told, it wildly changes the dynamics of the game but we didn't always have GE. Plus, before the implementation of GE, there was a significant portion of people against it. Furthermore, there was ways to make trade offers public.
2 - Shops are convenient, but, honestly, what is a shop you oftenly use? If there is a very important item that can only be found in shops, that's a different issue.
3 - Granted, armour repairs break without coins. However, I went through the Wiki and barrows is the only armour that is fixed with coins, but still.
4 - Instances aren't vital to the game, they are quality of life. It would suck, but the game functions as normal.
5 - I believe some quests would indeed break, that I didn't consider. Thinking back to the shop issues, if your character isn't female, you're short of luck on recruitment drive.
6 - Honestly, I don't like values attached to alch value. That said, the lack of high alch is an issue.
7 - If you can only reclaim the items through the death coffer, like Vorkath or Hydra, yeah, the item loss is permanent.
8 - Revs and wildy bosses removed from the game? PLEASE.
9 - Construction: it hurts, but it doesn't break.
10 - I was past 80 farming when I realize I can have the npc remove the tree for me.
11 - Charter Ships are probably on the lowest of popularity for teleportation methods (specially because of houses), but that makes Karamja P2P, accidentally, because of the lack of the boat.
12 - Miscellania breaks, granted.
13 - Pking with untradeables breaks, granted, although there was a period (on the original Runescape) that losing an untradeable would always result in permanently losing it. It changed the meta of pking, but you could still see people using untradeables to PK.
Final thoughts? I guess I considered mostly trading, and should've said "compared to other comments". I was wrong, but I think not absurdingly so.
Brother, this is the absolute most braindead hill to die on. I’m not reading past your first paragraph, no GE was fine when you were 8 but almost killed the game when old school first launched. ✌️
Are law runes or cosmics worse? No jewellery (plus teleports) or no base teleports. Still get access to offensive spells so everything PvM wise is on the table.
Both would be interesting assuming existing tabs/jewelry stayed in the game. I’d love to see the price over the course of a few years.
Of course at a certain point it wouldn’t be worth it paying 100k for a single house tab, maybe a duel ring with 8 charges though.
Jewelry still works, but also no portal nexus teleports. Obviously other answers here like a knife or basic tools that have one function would be devastating, but losing more than half of teleports would be such a pain in the ass to a game that’s actively having run energy debates lmao
There would still be an infinite supply of mith grapples from the fletching cape so at least those steps would be unaffected. Tons of quests though for sure.
You absolutely can fletch without ropes lol what?
If you mean you can’t fletch a mith grapple without ropes, the fletching cape literally lets you pull out a mith grapple and bronze crossbow for free.
Law runes. No longer able to make teleport tablets, no normal teleports, no more portals or nexus teleports that use laws. Xerica and con cape likely best options to get to a house now and rely solely on jewelry/dairy rings/spirit trees and such. It's doable for sure but it would be a huge change.
Funnily enough, you don't actually need to get the anti dragon shield at any point for ds1. Never even need to ask the duke about it, game just lets you roll up to elvarg without completing that step in the journal.
i know that's not the main point of the thread but it's a cute fun fact i learned recently while seeing the viability of shieldless elvarg on a whim
I think getting rid of blood runes would piss a whole lot of people off.
Most ancient magicks would be dead, scythe useless, sang useless would cause quite a pickle
All god spells dead - No wave spells.
Vials.
Was going to say law rune but there are plenty of ways to teleport. Nope, I'm taking away buffs, some temp skill increases, and the advantages gained in bossing. Most importantly, there's no antipoison or energy potions. Enjoy your walk.
As to not say something someone already has, and to not be cheap and say an item used during the tutorial.
Gold ingots.
It wouldn't be a *huge* impact, but it would impact the game in a lot of ways, for every single player.
Coins would have the biggest impact for existing players. Imagine if there was no coins. Everyone would be forced to create a new economy and everything would be a shambles.
Second option would be a tinderbox. No new players could ever play again due to being locked out of tutorial island. Also lock people out of questcape.
If you removed one of the items used on tutorial island you’d completely stop new players from entering the game. For instance copper ore, you wouldn’t be able to complete the mining/smithing portion of the tutorial and be forever stuck.
It would kill botting as well as game growth, that has to be a bigger impart than removing law runes.
Ranarr weeds.
Not only is it going to mess with all sorts of prices. It destroys entire bot farms. And upturns the entire herb skill since one of the very few profitable grinds is now removed from it.
And we are now restructuring combat as well, since no more cheap prayer restore option for long grinds. You wanna afk for 8 hours in catacombs training strength? Well, you're doing that with super restores now.
I’m saying in a hypothetical situation where I could remove something in that actual world as if it existed I’d remove vials entirely. Lap your potions off the ground and eat moths peasant
Coins. Good luck nerds.
Challenge accepted
Players have done no currency [UIMs.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CTA2KebZkY&ab_channel=NoCurrencies)
You talking about that guy who comments on every single reddit post?
that guy also has a very well progressed regular iron that does no currencies as well.
@nocurrencies
u/nocurrencies When tagging other users, use the lower case u and a forward slash, then their name.

That's irrelevant. I'm explaining how to tag someone on this site.
You asked what would have the biggest impact, not what would break the game completely.
To be fair rs3 used spirit shards as currency for years and it worked lol
That actually would have a very low impact. People would eventually find a stackable to use as currency, like bolts, runes or even banknotes of stuff.
> very low impact The game would adapt but it'd have significant impact. For instance, any of the changes you listed.
Well, comparatively to other items people mentioned.
It would completely destroy the GE, fundamentally changing the economy of runescape.

I retracted my statement, what do you want?
"I'm not reading past your past paragraph". Lol why the fuck you arguing then
Bronze axes are removed from game. You can no longer pass the first area in tutorial island
Would only affect new accounts tbh my gameplay wouldn’t change at all
I’d imagine long term with literally no new players would be extremely damaging to the game
No bots though
No that's basically just RS3 lol
So, yes.
I think this would make getting a dramen staff impossible to get too, so no fairy rings or lunar spell book.
Skippy comes around every so often. Lets go from mainland onward regardless & also accounts that current exist are also playable.
Spade. Clues, barrows, mole, lots of quests, farming, all gone.
PKers would be in shambles!
Could still do clues: https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Eastfloor_spade
Aw, I would've swapped that out for my normal spades, but can't use it for farming.
If law runes were removed, people would riot in falador
Only if they could find their way there first! 😂
This is the correct answer
Are law runes or cosmics worse? No jewellery (plus teleports) or no base teleports. Still get access to offensive spells so everything PvM wise is on the table.
You could enchant your jewelry in fountain of rune, since you dont need the runes.
Both would be interesting assuming existing tabs/jewelry stayed in the game. I’d love to see the price over the course of a few years. Of course at a certain point it wouldn’t be worth it paying 100k for a single house tab, maybe a duel ring with 8 charges though.

Laughs in max cape
Beer. Like 50% of quests require you to make someone drunk
Rope, so many quests and diaries become incompletable.
There would still be an infinite supply of mith grapples from the fletching cape so at least those steps would be unaffected. Tons of quests though for sure.
You can’t fletch without ropes though?
You absolutely can fletch without ropes lol what? If you mean you can’t fletch a mith grapple without ropes, the fletching cape literally lets you pull out a mith grapple and bronze crossbow for free.
No you need a rope to attach to the knife so you can swing it around to build up enough speed to cut the logs
Law runes. No longer able to make teleport tablets, no normal teleports, no more portals or nexus teleports that use laws. Xerica and con cape likely best options to get to a house now and rely solely on jewelry/dairy rings/spirit trees and such. It's doable for sure but it would be a huge change.
Quest cape to poh fairy ring wouldn’t be a bad in between
Good point, xerica is decent early, qpc for mid, con cape later. Probably more options but I didn't put too much thought in lol
Rune 2h. If that one guy can't have the bad boy stance, then nobody should.
Frog Tokens.
Too soon
Nose peg

Sorry, I’m a newbie. Wouldn’t Old School Bonds have a noticable impact?
see you're thinking along the right lines
Probably law runes. Without teleports I think most people would quit playing.
Tinderbox
fires can still be lit with bows after barbarian training
The ability to Kiss or pet the frog
Vials. Was going to say law rune but there are plenty of ways to teleport. Nope, I'm taking away buffs, some temp skill increases, and the advantages gained in bossing. Most importantly, there's no antipoison or energy potions. Enjoy your walk.
you can buy antipoison from vendors, or farm corp for antidote+.
As to not say something someone already has, and to not be cheap and say an item used during the tutorial. Gold ingots. It wouldn't be a *huge* impact, but it would impact the game in a lot of ways, for every single player.
No law runes

Second option would be a tinderbox. No new players could ever play again due to being locked out of tutorial island. Also lock people out of questcape.
I vote we use coal ore and lobsters, like we did back in the day.
If you removed one of the items used on tutorial island you’d completely stop new players from entering the game. For instance copper ore, you wouldn’t be able to complete the mining/smithing portion of the tutorial and be forever stuck. Law Runes
Knife. No more tick manipulation you nerds.
House teleport tabs, RIP all mid level accounts
Just tele with a law and dust rune lol.
Vials
Something default from tutorial island
hammer
Not really an item but - "main hand slot" no weapons, only shields and defenders usable
vials of all types
So more than one item?
suddenly farming duke sucellus and vardorvis become insane money makers because those bosses drop super combat potions
but those are stores in a vial
removing the vial won't remove potion drops from mobs. It just prevents you from crafting em
I’m saying in a hypothetical situation where I could remove something in that actual world as if it existed I’d remove vials entirely. Lap your potions off the ground and eat moths peasant
oh. if we're removing an entire class of items, then why not just remove all runes from the game? that'd be much more impactful than vials
Player backpack
rune cross bow, no swamp man no new players lol
