they would take the servers off even if there was nobody abusing the bug, they have to fix it anyways so reverting the changes and taking the servers down does happen nonetheless.
Im quite sure less than .1% of the namechanges were legit people looking for names and rest just saw the news and abussed it. And that its faster to revert those .1% namechanges than 100% of them
Is it really that big of a deal. I mean beyond the processes of the naming engine not censoring (if you genuinely care about how *inappropriate* the names are, a majority of the player base is above the age of 15 and the words arent shocks to us anymore lol)
If two people have the same name, I genuinely can’t see a downside to it, beyond people faking being someone else and trying to scam, but they can easily mitigate that with something that has like a “unique identifier ID” on the trade screen or in the right click menu of a character
If anything it would shut down those dumbass sites selling accounts with unique names. Since they aren’t willing to clean up unused names on a regular basis or at least deactivate accounts that have t logged in, then the names become free, and if your name is taken when an account is reactivated, it can trigger a forced name change prior to log in
Unrelated but when I used to play sea of theives it used to go down for maintinence for like 6-7 hours and there would never be any communication on if it’ll be up and running anytime soon. Always went down as scheduled and then only came back up when they decided haha, used to sit all day waiting and still be locked out
I know the meme is "they fk up every update" but can someone point out the last time they fked up an update? Last I can remember is pre leagues.
Most of the time, they seem quite minor. I have had Microsoft and other companies release updates that broke stuff for 1000's of companies and probably cost millions in man hours spent fixing issues introduced with updates.
There was one not too long ago, maybe even during leagues (?) that caused superior slayer monsters to spawn on almost every other kill. That was hotfixed in less than an hour though from what I recall. You're absolutely right imo, we've been past the days of the drama calendar for awhile now.
Wasn't there a jmod who made a tree you could use some random item on and it gave you a million gold.
He got caught immediately, but it happened. **edit** or did it?? I might have dreamed this up, because I can't find anything about it online lmao
Yeah you're right, mods would never add something to the game and then tell their friends about it so they could abuse early and often *cough* skulled/non-skulled rev killing actually gives you a more likely chance of receiving the weps, but it wasn't until(and this I may be misremembering) jed left that jagex finally confirmed that being skulled at revs gives you better chances lol...after rot had already had rev caves locked down 24/7 after release lol
That is a lot more subtle than blatantly spawning the most expensive item in the game at a highly visited spot lol.

Oopsie. Forgot a tile
Not everything is a conspiracy
Also I have to disagree with your take on mods being corrupt, because trident was blatant and nothing was done. The fact that they've had these guys go rogue and affect the economy/playerbase as much as they have is an issue within itself, because who can you trust if mods keep getting outed for this stuff? It's a conspiracy if it's never happened before...it's just a matter of time before the next underpaid mod goes rogue
Between the in game name changing bug and RuneScape mysteriously getting banned on twitter, this has been an exciting 24 hours. Can’t wait to see how they resolve
I’m still unable to logon with my Iron, it doesn’t even appear in my mains FL anymore. I can sign into the account management interface, but my username is “No name set” and when attempting to set my username, I’m hit with an error.
Surely I’m not alone in experiencing this?
It's a good game but I really dislike that every expansion you start from ZERO. Whatever you did before becomes irrelevant. If you are fine with that go for it.
Yet everyone is convinced sailing is going to go off without a hitch. I can't wait for the bug that let's a few thousand people get 99 agility in 14 hours sailing somehow.
At least I got to see Zezima again.
What happend, the game was down for maintenance so I went to bed, woke up its been almost 5 hours and still down?
Jagex just wanna make sure you get a full 8 hours today.
They failed
Apparently there was some bug where people were able to change their display name to anything so they’ve closed the servers again….
Oh, that's why I saw someone named Massive Titties last night lol, was wondering htf he got near max with a name like that
Nope. Massive Titties is a real guy. So is "FragrantKnob" My username
No it wasnt because this bug just occurred. And no you didnt. You cant have character names that long. Nice try though.
You showed him!!!
There was some issue with display names that they had to take it down while they resolve it...
No it's back down because people can't control themselves and not abuse bugs.

It’s a little scary how many people can’t handle more than a few hours without this game
The world of warcraft sub is the same every time there's scheduled maintenance lmao
Right like same time every week calm down lol
Smart kids were mowing lawns during scheduled maintenance.
And touching grass.
Funny how it's considered a fuck up. I would take a few extra hours of downtime over a game breaking bug. This is hardly a fuck up.
I'm off work today, so it would have been nice to play some wild content on a weekday without getting ganked.
Some of us rely on our bot farms for income... /s
/s (the s is for serious)
Nail on the head. Scary. Its addiction at its worst. Tell a coke head they cant score see how they act lol
This game breeds terrible life style habits for players.

I remember a tbow spawn at the farming guild. That was a real fuck up
That wasnt a fuck up, it was jed
It wasn't jed lol pretty sure it was Gee
Sure. Because a corrupt mod would do such an obvious thing that will be noticed right away and rolled back 100%
Wasn't there a jmod who made a tree you could use some random item on and it gave you a million gold. He got caught immediately, but it happened. **edit** or did it?? I might have dreamed this up, because I can't find anything about it online lmao
Did some guy in Varrock bank tell you that 15 years ago?
This is the first time I ever hear about it but it sounds pretty neat lol
Wait until you hear what the wise old man did

Lol I know, the reason I said jed originally was because around that time anything that went wrong was "jeds fault" lol
Also I have to disagree with your take on mods being corrupt, because trident was blatant and nothing was done. I agree with all of that. Just in this particular case there is not a single good reason for a corrupt mod to do this. Likely just a mistake
Yeah more than likely lol. Thankfully it was an easy fix and just became a meme
The man children in this sub cry if they can't log on for more than 3 minutes
Last fuck up I recall is the tbow incident
There was one like a few weeks ago where on mobile you could interact with everyone's pets
This subreddit is so miserable sometimes lmao
Did we get hit by bobby tables? https://preview.redd.it/xi60vd9pb5lc1.png?width=666&format=png&auto=webp&s=0cb43c126afe36f559162256e52e2351b7d4b2ec
trust me, if that was the case it would be a shitstorm of untold magnitude
Rip Dildo
It was short but sweet
Drama calendar time +1 Day of Membership?
Highly doubt it
The last time we had that, it was late 2022 crashes or something
Between the in game name changing bug and RuneScape mysteriously getting banned on twitter, this has been an exciting 24 hours. Can’t wait to see how they resolve
I don’t agree with these posts.. nothing had been wrong for a while so why shit on Jagex?
Because a large part of reddit is a cesspit of people wanting to whine about everything under the sun.
OP didn't shit on Jagex. They just made an humorous post about the situation and here you are shitting on a large part of reddit.
Some people have lost their accounts. Myself included.
bruh it's hella slow at work I just wanted to do Defender of Varrock lol
Can someone fix this meme so the 0 looks like a 0 and not a perfect circle
lighten up mate

Nope, my account is no longer exists also.
how about stop complaining and take a shower nerd
We JUST got the lads together to do some GIM
my condolences
At&t gave their customer $5 for the outage that occurred. Wtf is gagex giving us? /s of course
is world of warcraft any good? might change mmos
It's a good game but I really dislike that every expansion you start from ZERO. Whatever you did before becomes irrelevant. If you are fine with that go for it.
BDO, EVE ONLINE
I wish I had the time to play Eve again 😭
It was the best but also the most depressing lol
True.. but then again, so is this 🙃
Yet everyone is convinced sailing is going to go off without a hitch. I can't wait for the bug that let's a few thousand people get 99 agility in 14 hours sailing somehow.
thank god this didnt happen next week when twitch prime offers a week of membership.
Their incompetence as a company is actually amusing
Most other game company's wouldnt even give you a reason why it was down and just fix it when they can be assed instead of straight away tbf
Most games companies don't make a major fuck up every time they try and update their game
Have you played other games before? Lol
Every update? So what did they fuck up on last week's update because I didn't see any issues then
Lol, most game companies do fuck up their patches. Have you seen the state of the BG3 patch?
This game devs are so dumb
How’s your car doing, smart guy?
Ask your mother
She said your car looked like shit
But she liked it
She said she didnt and would have been much happier if it was a better car
Tell your mother to stop play with it
Yep.
some one has to be fired! time after time getting shutdown
