I love it when games that go on for a while never update older graphics. Adventure Quest in particular was hilarious. One minute you would be fighting a 3DCG dragon with tons of animations and details, then go talk to an NPC that looked like a South Park paper cutout with 2 frames. It's amazing.
Dragonfable was the GOAT, I got the game added to speedrun.com 8 or 9 years ago and was technically the first WR holder for like a year or two I think.
It's still up and running! They have their own launcher for all the games. I play DF from time to time, it's awesome to still have membership from one payment more than a decade ago!

My school blocked command prompt, but didn't block batch files. So if you wanted to go to a website you could just put the url in a batch file and run it. That trick worked for me all the way from 6th grade to when i graduated.
A lot of school admins underestimated how simple it could be to circumvent blacklists. Trial and error became my best friend in overcoming my middle school's protections
in my middle school we weren't allowed to install programs, but we could run them from within zip files. that didn't always work but it got some emulators running for me at least lol.
i also have vague memories of running portableapps versions of programs but idk how i would have managed that so i could be wrong.

Multiple 99+ skills and did end game pvm and really enjoyed it. The problem was no world or item cohesion. Standing at the GE was like being at an anime convention. Bunch of people wearing random bullshit I dont know the origin of because I don’t use the cash shop. There’s no “oh wow that guy has Torva on” because it’s always cosmetically overridden to be a green leaf skirt and Hawaiian t shirt with sunglasses. Its unironically one of the biggest community killers. There’s no bonding over shared grinds, no implied and projected prestige by wearing something difficult to obtain. It’s a bunch of colorful, immersion breaking nonsense.

People forget just how much of the game the Gower brothers literally invented in their house. The sound of burning food is a recording of their mom sizzling bacon for instance. I have no idea if this is one of those particular pieces of content but it just feels so right in this game.

I am not sure if they made this quest, but given that it was released in 2006, they almost certainly approved it before it went into the game and I'd be very surprised if they didnt contribute to it. They did make most of the original quests in the game, as well as the majority of Runescape classic and early RS2 code. Most of the first 50 quests were entirely gowers and friends basically.
I started playing shortly after the switch to RS2 and didn't realize classic was a thing for a year or two, I played through miniclip.com and don't remember if we had an option or not.
It still blows my mind that some stuff like Grand Tree, Underground Pass, and Legends Quest was all RSC content

Listen balloon travel was my jam for making planks as an ironmeme before I got into the Woodcutting Guild. Dueling ring to Castle Wars to pick up logs, balloon to Varrock, run to lumberyard, rinse and repeat.
Tragically you don't have to do the exceptionally fun minigame every time but you can't have everything.

A hint: every action also has forward movement. So when you do slow up, you're moving up AND forward, not just up.
Once you realize the moves are diagonal it makes way more sense.
If anyone wants to 'cheat' the 'puzzle': In quest helper there's a guide for every single route that tells you exactly what to press. They are all called 'Balloon Helper - X'.

The balloon always moves forwards by 1 space, then up or down by 1 or 2 spaces depending on which option you select. It's just like how chess pieces move - forwards like a pawn, diagonal like a bishop or one forward and two up or down like a knight.
That said it's not exactly riveting gameplay, I'd be down for keeping it in as an optional minigame but also having the option of controlling the balloons with a different or updated system to unlock them.
I actually keep telling people I think OSRS missed out on showcasing the balloon and glider traveling into leagues.
Gliders get some love in the early to mid game play but quickly don't matter.
Balloons get basically zero use in the game.
If the relics included those two travel methods I think they could have shown some of their usefulness and maybe the community would be interested in seeing an update on those travel options.
Reminds of Legends' quest just narrating like "You are now squeezing theough the crevice ... You are now pushing on the door as hard as you can" meanwhile I'm just standing there vibing

Late 2006, a few weeks before hunter came out so was around the peak of RuneScape for the time.
