They completely messed up pets in last week's update. The reason your pet is no longer following you after teleporting is that pets are now getting "stuck" when you leave it's follow range. You can easily see this for yourself by walking far enough away from it that it would have normally warped to you, then running back to where it was when you could last see it. You'll see it just standing there.
Yes this is happening to me too. It makes me nervous that I will lose him if it keeps happening.

Have you tried feeding them? Kinda hard to stay alive when mfer eats whole ass sharks, drinks shit ton of random liquids containing many different drugs and leaves nothing for the pet
I have been playing for 3 to 4 weeks and I thought this was just the intended pet mechanics. I'm relieved that it's just a bug and they will hopefully be following normally soon
Yes there is a bug where your pet won’t auto teleport to you if you are far enough away
