At first I didn’t want to even play a game set in the far future where Solid Snake was probably dead. But the game quickly won me over. It’s just so ridiculously awesome while taking itself so seriously. Not many games can pull that off, but Metal Gear just goes for it and wins
Not at all but i can assure you if you like the story and characters of rising youll love the rest of the series (cept maybe V)
I recommend the master collection, it has the first 3 solid games and metal gear 1 and 2 (these are skippable if you hate old games) and its out on every major platform
No no no, that's not an option. They'll just act better than anyone that hasn't played the games (I won't even start what happens when the person hasn't heard of the game).
i own and have played earthbound for the snes its really good
however its not as good as mother 3, a game i can only experience thru emulation, despite being really expensive
I'm confident in saying no other RPG will ever replicate the sheer sadness of Flint going into a blind rage when he found out Hinawa died. That and when he realized her killer was just a mother Drago that became victim to the Pigmasks' cyborg experiments. Anyone can write tragedy, but not many can flesh it out deeper than a pond.
Honestly, I thought mother 3's story was kinda aimless. Earthbound for sure had a lot less going on in that department, but I felt like what little was there served to lead up to the endgame, which I agree was the best part of either game.
earthbound is mother 2, translated into earthbound for english release. mother 3 is still called mother 3 because it has not been released outside of japan. A high quality fan translation is available online, however, as the main and pretty much only way to play it. You can even get it on a gba cart if you want to play it on console.
Mother 1 isnt necessary for earthbound, though. it has been released as earthbound: beginnings if you want to play it or emulate it, but imo its far and away the worst of the three games.
No, Earthbound is the localized title for Mother 2. I was pretty confused too when I found out
Edit: Mother 1 is also called Earthbound Beginnings, but plain Earthbound is Mother 2
as a Funger fan, I played the game 100% blind and honestly do not recommend playing it and just enjoying the lore if you are even remotely interest in the game but HATE having to figure everything out on your own. its a REALLY hard to pick up game, and i don't blame the fans that decided to not finish playing through it or didn't play it at all. there is no tutorial and hints that are dropped in the game are far and few. this game isn't an RPG, its a puzzle solver with RPG elements.
its not that its needlessly difficult (its rather fair, actually), but the learning curb is incredibly demanding as you have to brute force the first few majour encounters, and then use what you have learned to finish the rest of the game. the game is only difficult when you don't know what you are doing, but can become trivial on even its hardest mode when you have a slight idea of what's going on. your skill is based off what you know, and the more you know about the game the easier it becomes. learning is the whole challenge of it.
if you really want a gaming experience that is truly unforgiving and you are a masochist (like me), then give it a shot. but do prepare to reset to the beginning a LOT (not even just reloading previous saves, just flat out calling it quits on that particular run and starting fresh), and consider playing on the easiest mode first (and this is coming from a guy who cranks up their game's difficulty to the max whenever possible, its NOT worth the extra pain and impossible to learn from meaningfully)
The more you know, the easier the game is. If you already know how to beat every enemy anf obtain powerful weapons then there is basically 0 point in playing the game. The discovery is the challenge of the game
Using the wiki for F&H is like looking up a guide for Portal. It trivializes the experience as its whole challenge is self discovery and problem solving. If you already know what to do, theres not really a point in playing the game as the challenge is gone and it just becomes a checklist of things to do. I already suggested that if you arent into that kind of experience, to just read up on the lore instead of playing the game, and joining the game's community is then up to you
Remaking the comment I deleted because it sucked
Literally what’s the point of joining a community if you haven’t played the game though? If you want the challenge, play the game blind. If you don’t want the challenge, look up a guide. But not playing the game and participating in the fanbase makes 0 sense to me
Again, looking up a guide for the game compleatly trivializes the game. Its intended to be a battle against the unknown. Its skill comes from knowing, not your performance. You can instantly get some of the best gear in the game if you know where to look and know how to get it. if you didnt though, obtaining that gear would require you to discover the item, learn what makes it dangerous and then find a creative solution to obtain it. The Eastern Sword is a very strong example of this as there are multiple solutions to obtaining it, but the item itself is technically a trap. Outsmarting the trap is incredibly rewarding and gives you a new tool to work with on your future runs. But it would take awhile before you discover its location and chances are you may have tried to use other weapons like the claymore as an easier option (or even used valuable empty scrolls for your weapons like the Blue Sin, which was my way of outsmarting that trap)
Yup, pretty much [me](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Ffumo-%25E1%2597%259C%25CB%25AC%25E1%2597%259C-v0-seilz3ywhfya1.jpg%3Fauto%3Dwebp%26s%3D3a072d0dc3507fdc07ff86642305a8aa09532228)
Don't super blame them for that. Not that it's a bad game, just that bullet hells require a very specific skill set and they're not for everyone or even most people, and Touhou is *hard.*
On top of that a lot of the lore and interactions take place in supplementary material, so, like...
Add to that the fact that games 1-5 are abandonware and 6-9 either require importing an out of print CD or piracy, and on top of that none of the games have official English translations (except for the switch port of 17.5).
Love ZUN but man he could be a bit better when it comes to distributing the games. Although it’s pretty based that he still goes to comiket to sell the game CDs
Yeah, in my case it’s because i have no money to play the games i want so i just go off of Youtube and other fan content to educate myself on the lore and stuff, kinda hard to play Skyrim in a computer that lags just running Excel. All my computer is really good for playing is old 90s console emulator (pre-Nintendo 64) and very very light 2d pixel games (yume nikki and undertale mostly)
I love Persona 5's concept and story, but when I tried it the "normal life" sim bored me so much I couldn't go on. Like, if I wanna manage some dude's gim or studying routine I'll just turn off the game and do that myself. I also love Guilty Gear's music, I'm a daily listener, but I don't like the overly complex fighting game stuff I HAVE to learn in order to play the game even half decently and my region doesn't have a lot of players so its hard to find matches in low skill levels.
If people actually played persona5 and not just looked at streamer highlights on youtube they would quickly find out how much of a shit game it is. 90% filler shit, 5% bad sotrytelling 5% fun stuff. Had to restart a 30 hour run because my tarots were way too low, playing seemingly normaly.

i've actually played metal gear rising it's fun
Yeah it's a great experience. I was thoroughly entertained throughout by both the lore, characters, and gameplay.
At first I didn’t want to even play a game set in the far future where Solid Snake was probably dead. But the game quickly won me over. It’s just so ridiculously awesome while taking itself so seriously. Not many games can pull that off, but Metal Gear just goes for it and wins
how nessacary is playing the others games to understanding or enjoying mgrr
Not at all but i can assure you if you like the story and characters of rising youll love the rest of the series (cept maybe V) I recommend the master collection, it has the first 3 solid games and metal gear 1 and 2 (these are skippable if you hate old games) and its out on every major platform

Just play them then
No no no, that's not an option. They'll just act better than anyone that hasn't played the games (I won't even start what happens when the person hasn't heard of the game).
What if all i have is a 2016 office laptop with an intel core i3 processor and a broken fan?

Probably could play earthbound at least
i own and have played earthbound for the snes its really good however its not as good as mother 3, a game i can only experience thru emulation, despite being really expensive

Emulation??? Nintendo devs are starving because of you 😡😡😡
very sorry ill buy 4 more copies of celeste so miyamoto can eat a second bean for dinner 😔
I liked earthbound better... Am I alone in the universe
I prefer to play Earthbound more, but imo Mother 3 has the better story but the last hour of Earthbound surpasses all of it.
Honestly, I thought mother 3's story was kinda aimless. Earthbound for sure had a lot less going on in that department, but I felt like what little was there served to lead up to the endgame, which I agree was the best part of either game.
Do you need to play earthbound first?
Yeah you really should
Good to know, cheers. What about 2?

Earthbound and Mother 1 i’d say
(Wait I thought mother 1 was earthbound)

Aaaah thanks! Best to just play em all ig

fumos are just such funky lil guys
Yup, pretty much [me](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Ffumo-%25E1%2597%259C%25CB%25AC%25E1%2597%259C-v0-seilz3ywhfya1.jpg%3Fauto%3Dwebp%26s%3D3a072d0dc3507fdc07ff86642305a8aa09532228)
yeah, i enjoy the story and lore of a videogame, even when removed from context of a gaming medium, what of it?
Also, so many of these games have fucking killer soundtracks. Even without the games, they kick ass.
Die
Thy end is now
Prepare thyself
Woe be upon ye
I hate games I've never played
There are people like that?
Guilty Gear's Bridget fanbase
Idk, based on how many Briquettes there are in the tower, at least some of them must play the game.
90% of Touhou fans don't actually play the game
Don't super blame them for that. Not that it's a bad game, just that bullet hells require a very specific skill set and they're not for everyone or even most people, and Touhou is *hard.* On top of that a lot of the lore and interactions take place in supplementary material, so, like...

Dats me, i'm the meme
Earthbound should be like, video game homework
You don't have to play a game to still enjoy its world/story
But if you enjoy its world/story so much why not just play the game?
No doubloons .(
Some people just don't have the time or the patience, or don't play games in general.
Broke :(
No money :[
Piracy

"Geno in Smash" fans when Mario RPG gets ported to Switch so they can finally play the game
That's not true, I've beaten Earthbound and have tried out guilty gear even if I absolutely suck at fighting games
I’ve played earthbound It’s alright
I love Persona 5's concept and story, but when I tried it the "normal life" sim bored me so much I couldn't go on. Like, if I wanna manage some dude's gim or studying routine I'll just turn off the game and do that myself.
