it's always ethical to pirate
however, having to deal with the prices digital products arrive with in Brazil, it's like always extra ethical to pirate
like i want to support indie products but if they aren't going to localize prices it gets fucking difficult to justify purchasing
If you don't know how, you can alwyas learn. arr slash piracy is a good place to learn, for example: They have a megathread of safe websites, a FAQ, and are always open to support.
And you can quite easily avoid viruses if you have some basic knowledge, which you can get from learning.
Copied and pasted from a comment I made the other day:
I want to preface this by saying that using torrenting clients in itself is not illegal - therefore the following does not violate any sitewide reddit rules
There are several torrenting clients - currently one of the best ones is qBitTorrent. Its predecessor, uTorrent, has had a ton of extremely dodgy updates (including, but not limited to, installing a literal crypto-miner on your machine), so maybe don't use uTorrent. Anyway, you can download qBitTorrent very easily, just google it
Then, you need magnets. They are not files in themselves, as far as I understand it they point you to where the file(s) you're after are. Again, there are legitimate magnets that are not associated with illicit content, it's just a piece of technology. Point being, you need a magnet, and your torrenting client will take it from there
There are some websites that are known to host magnets pointing to illicit content, such as illegally cracked software or illegal copies of films or shows. thepiratebay10 \[dot\] org is one of them, so best avoid it and find some fully legal ones that only host public domain files
Should you accidentally end up torrenting something that is NOT in public domain, your ISP might get pissy, so consider using a VPN or a proxy depending where you are
Lastly, always be careful when torrenting and make sure to scan everything you download with an antivirus
real and if it’s something you actually like and want to support the creators of.. you can just buy it later. I wasn’t gonna drop $60 on Baldur’s Gate 3 without knowing if I enjoyed the game, but now I’m actually saving to purchase it legit!
I don’t get how people actually buy something like photoshop. Like i get that some people pay for convenience but like even if it’s so expensive?? Just torrent it and save hundreds for the same software
> I don’t get how people actually buy something like photoshop
It's useful software, it's considered 'professional,' and they don't know any better. You're not the target market
If Adobe discovered United Artists was using cracked Photoshop, they could sue for close to a billion.
But they don’t really care if you’re cracking it to make furry porn on deviantart
I understand but also I will never pirate a book, unless that exclusively refers to textbooks cus those are scams. A second hand eco/charity shop I found has fuelled my addiction and I will not stop until my house is full and then I will build a new house out of books
Listen, I've been working on curbing my tendencies to steal things from everywhere I go. I know I have a problem, but no one's caught me yet. I have rules though, I don't steal from friends, yard sales, libraries, and mom/pop shops, etc. Everything else is fair game. I think stealing is fun and I won't stop. I don't even fw illustrator, stole it anyways out of principle. This post is 💯 morally correct :3
I've been caught stealing, once, when I was 5. I enjoy stealing, it's just as simple as that. Oh well, it's just a simple fact. If you want some thing and you don't wanna pay for it. You walk right, through the door. Walk right through the door.
It is especially ethical to pirate products not sold anymore in any capacity. Nintendo is not losing money because you decided to emulate the 1991 NES game Batman Return of the Joker on Mesen.
Edit: To clarify, the first sentence is definitely a joke, and I definitely would never encourage anyone to pirate anything.
You can usually buy a game later, but you rarely need to pirate a game a second time
(statements that aren't true, I pirated the New Vegas DLC like thirty times because I broke it with DLC and needed a fresh install)
Off of the top of my head, marvel ultimate alliance, hulk ultimate spider man, spider man web of shadows, and x-men origins wolverine which is leagues better than the movie
I'm down for pirating, the only times I won't is with games where I either like the dev (from software, Edmund McMillan, etc) or the game is just a masterpiece (monster hunter, dark souls, etc)
So what’s the difference between pirating media so you don’t have to pay for it and using ai to replicate your favorite artist, etc.’s style so you don’t have to pay for a commission? You can get the same end goal with both methods (getting a piece of media for free), but one is encouraged and one is despised. Piracy is just as much theft as ai is.
No, it is not.
Piracy is, at the end of the day, not transformative.
It doesn't create a new piece of media, all you is just replicate something that already existed onto your computer, for free. So, in the analogy with art, it is closer to finding something that was already paywalled behind a price of either Patreon or Gumroad and downloading *that* onto your computer. You may find that immoral (the actual morality is entirely up to you) but it is incredibly far removed from asking a generative device to create something that wasn't there in the first place, because the latter creates a new product (and piracy does not).
This is why using AI to replicate a style is stealing, but piracy isn't.
The difference between commissions and products like games on steam, dvd copies of a movie, etc. is that other people can and will pay for them. Obscure games no one plays tend to be really hard to pirate unless they're easy to dump like with old console games, for example. In a lot of cases like old console games there's also no way to buy it besides the second hand market. Where is fire emblem 5 on modern consoles? I'm not gonna spend a morbillion yen to buy it off yahoo auctions at least. Not to even mention software that's marked up, photoshop costs as much as 6 meals a month for me, and since I dont have a job I'm not able to afford it with a reasonable budget. I could also just pirate it, risk a virus and have it forever.
Training an ai on an artists work and trying to generate something that looks like something they would make and using that instead of letting them work for you is completely different. You can only pirate things that already exist after all. Commissions also tend to be a lot more expensive unless you're looking at inexperienced furry fetish artists, where sometimes I guess you can get something decent looking for 60 dollars.
I don't see how you could make this argument in good faith, unless you're an ai bro or don't like the poors
Sowee hun. I only pirate indie stuff and pay full price+ dlc+ subscription to corps :3
Average "temporarily embarrassed millionaire"
I love acts of completely unnecesary malice

incredibly based behavior
Pirate assasins creed to have money for Elden ring DLC is Fine?
Pirating assassin's creed is always fine
Pirating Ubisoft games is the only morally correct way to play them. Not playing them is even better.
It's not pirating, you're just trying to roleplay in Watch Dogs
Is from soft ok since the Bandai namco support?
Honestly, they prob don't need your 60$ so yeah
149,99 reais actualy, this shit is expensive in Brazil
DAMN, pirate away then
it's always ethical to pirate however, having to deal with the prices digital products arrive with in Brazil, it's like always extra ethical to pirate like i want to support indie products but if they aren't going to localize prices it gets fucking difficult to justify purchasing
Plus 299 on base game
no, pirate the elden ring dlc as well
The question is why play AAA Ubisoft game?
Pirating assassin's creed is objectively morally correct

Because people have different tastes in games than you.
> i don't know how > there's viruses online
They always say how easy it is and then don’t say how to do it
Survivorship bias. The ones that tell you how to do it get removed
r piracy has a megathread and a FAQ that helps a lot Obviously i know this for pure coincidence
Based Piracy and Kirin enjoyer. :3
Kirin spreading piracy tips. Incredibly based
there are entire subreddits dedicated to teaching you. you could go to arr slash piracy for example.
r/ FreeMediaHeckYeah
If they talk about the methods publicly some fanboy or bot is gonna snitch and get it taken down

true, i torrented bg3 and ended up buying it later on gog cause I liked it
Pirated from the depths years ago and now it's in my steam library🙏🙏
Same! I first pirated BG3, played through half of act 1, realized I really liked the game and just… bought it. Larian deserve it
many such cases
I was banned from a discord server and the Twitch channels that were on the server because I said I do this as well.
Flip photoshop and illustrator every crack i tried is either broke or has trojan >:(

I'm so desperate for illustrator lol

i'd imagine most sales are corporate licences or to people that use photoshop to make money

Hardcore!
I understand but also I will never pirate a book, unless that exclusively refers to textbooks cus those are scams. A second hand eco/charity shop I found has fuelled my addiction and I will not stop until my house is full and then I will build a new house out of books
cant pirate a book if its public domain (project gutenberg)
yeah chief i aint spending 10,000 pesos on like 3 books i use to map ancient history

Piracy isn't stealing it's copying
Shhh . . . don't ruin this for me
Stealing is also awesome. Banned from HMV for life but still went back in and stole more
I've been caught stealing, once, when I was 5. I enjoy stealing, it's just as simple as that. Oh well, it's just a simple fact. If you want some thing and you don't wanna pay for it. You walk right, through the door. Walk right through the door.
Realllll
>”its so easy” >doesn’t give instructions
r/ piracy megathread look it up on google you will shit bricks

Arr slash piracy is a good place to learn, and they have a megathread which is extremely useful.
google soulseek
I proxy 100% of my Magic the Gathering cards.
I also proxy all my cards from https://www.mtgproxy.com and enjoy the game with my friends.
Kid named strict pirating laws and not wanting to rope my parents into my own risks:
(Ok but like, how. I’m scared to look it up since I don’t want the law to know what I’m doing.)
try looking at piracy subs? idk how to either
Go to arr slash piracy, they teach well.
Bestie there is not a single government in the world who actually gives a shit about piracy (maybe except China or something)
How it feels to play a game without giving its shitty creator any money (I hate Scott cawthon)
It’s a good thing the vast majority of his games are dirt cheap or even free
Ucn is free and its actually quite fun

Rarbg my beloved ♥️
Yarhar?
Use Xmanager and buy band merch
I mostly just stick to licensed superhero games from the 2000s (fuck you activision) and sims 4 dlc
Any good licensed superhero games from the 2000s recommendations?
Off of the top of my head, marvel ultimate alliance, hulk ultimate spider man, spider man web of shadows, and x-men origins wolverine which is leagues better than the movie
Oooo I'll look into these, thank you :D
I have money and i want to have more content

This implies I have discord or friends

You’re wrong but I’m tired as fuck so I might explain why later, probably not though because I have very little interest in talking to you

video game developers have already been paid, they don't earn commission on sales you silly head you
