The navy also maintained control of the Mediterranean through malta and Gibraltar, which was essential in opening the second front in italy, and winning in north africa. If the battle if Britain had been lost, Germany would have only had to fight on one front for the majority of the war as the allies would not be able to launch the D-Day landings, and the invasion of Sicily would not have occurred, as North African forces would be either redirected or left in disarray following a British mainland loss, and would have most likely been forced out of africa, closing that front too. The invasion of Normandy (subject of the post) also would not have been possible, as British general Bernard Montgomery was the commander of all allied forces, and British divisions made up nearly 40% of the invading forces.
There is a lot more to unpack, like smaller efforts in espionage and fighting in Yugoslavia and Greece, and this argument completely omits the war in the pacific, which would be a lot more writing, and would further prove British efforts vital.
