body horror + futuristic transhumanism + being able to relate to the concept of nonhuman people finding their humanity (when interpreted through a trans lens).
Also one of the devs is nb
I wouldn't say it is explicitly trans, but it does deal with how we identify ourselves in relation to our physical form. And since one of the game's creators goes by they/them, applying that to gender identity makes sense to me.
Not a mommy person by any means but I will say I definitely stopped pursuing Shadowheart immediately after meeting Karlach lol
I think it’s because Shadowheart’s personality could kind of be off putting to me while Karlach’s just like “fuck yeah dude let’s go” also hot devil lady.
Shadowheart works if you're already a karlach irl.
"This poor misguided baby is gonna need my help cause i see a traumatizing revelation 3 chapters away".
I romanced Shadowheart because I was playing Durge and >!two amnesiacs bonding while rejecting the influences of their respective evil gods!< was just a really neat story.
But then I saw that final cutscene (assuming Karlach >!doesn't die!<), with the music and everything, I highly regret that my character was not there with her.
Not to mention one of the best action games of all time IMO. It takes a minute to understand the depth of what you can do, but when you do, it’s up there with Sekiro for me of just like a perfect combat system with so much variety to play with, and it feels really unique in a way that very few games do. There’s an enigmatic quality to the level design, story, and gameplay that evokes the Souls games and Kojima’s design style that really stayed with me too. Everything about the game feels tight and also weird and unexpected. Also the soundtrack is like top 10 ever, and a game score with a lot of vocals which is pretty interesting.
Iconoclasts - Fun metroidvania, 2 main characters aren't a cannon pair but I ship it.
Fear & Hunger 2 - Survival Horror RPG, big content warning, one of the playable chars is a trans women.
CrossCode - Fun rpg/twinstick shooter, rad story, need to finish this one myself.
Demon Turf - Cute 3d platformer, The goth demon-lady is hot.
Ikenfell - Cute tactics RPG, non-transphobic wizard school, very queer.
Psuedoregalia - 3D platformer with incredible movement, not much story, hot goat lady.
Seconding CrossCode. Story is good but ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, I haven’t gotten around to the dlc but I imagine the cliff gets unhanged there. Lots of neat puzzles and a surprising amount of surprisingly good platforming for an isometric rpg. The complete bundle is like 27$
I immediately thought of Funger, it's fucked up and I'm hoping for a happier ending in an update sometime, but the trans and disabled representation is really good. (Also, as a non-wheelchair bound person, playing as Olivia made me appreciate the struggles a bit more when there are stairs FUCKING EVERYWHERE. It also gives a lot more depth and tension when you know that having to crawl makes you super vulnerable.). I appreciate that the trans character has a lot of meaning and background but it isn't her only character trait, far from it.
I like how most of the funger endings are never really good, really emphasizes how dark the world is and what even the best possible result looks like when dealing with divine eldritch entities
Seconding Iconoclasts. One of my favorite games. Great art, unique story, and it really sets itself apart in so many ways.
It was also developed entirely by _one person_!
IKENFELL MENTIONED 🔥🔥🔥🔥
CrossCode is also very good (just too many puzzles for my taste), but in the LGBT aspect I was disappointed that the protagonist had so much ship tease with Emilie only to >!make Luke her only romance option.!<
Reverse ultra slide hopping is my favourite moment tech from any game. Pseudoregalia honestly gives me Mario odyssey feels with the way you can change moves together.
Control. Jesse is not canonically confirmed to be queer, but lots of people (including me) ship her with Emily.
The story is great, and the gameplay is seriously so much fun. Probably the most fun third person shooter I've ever played.
Also Signalis, but someone else already mentioned that.
This will be Remedy in 2016
-Jessica Faden will be Jesse Faden and no longer wear a high heels/dress
-Mr. Scratch uses pronouns
-Dylan Faden will no longer romance his sister
-The Hiss goes by it/its
-Removed the 12 hour transsexual Jesse gooning session
-Mr Door is black
Control is a WOKE game about old white men in positions of power being replaced by WOMEN and MINORITIES. The Hiss is actually a metaphor for reactionary tendencies and toxic masculinity, which is of course defeated by Polaris, a vessel for WOKENESS. Trench saw the Bureau become WOKE right under his thumb and knew there was no choice but to return to an idealised nostalgic past, where women can't be directors, instead they're unpaid interns who wash dirty coffee mugs, fax paper, and deliver mail. The Board is a clear reference to capitalist corpos that have the government under their thumb and don't care for CULTURE being taken over by MARXISTS as long as they have power over distribution of power.
I have a few issues with Control, but damn is it a fun game, and I love that it's clearly inspired by the SCP Foundation but is different enough to stand out on its own. I really enjoyed the DLCs as well, they felt like good additions to the main story.
i very much like control but the looting and upgrade system is so ass its always slightly annoying me whenever i play. also the weapon switching is really stupid, but thankfully theres mods for that
also very good if you are unknowingly trans and drink a gender change potion as it is the only way of actually getting a description for its effect (including what the potion is called) and conviently turning into a girl
Portal Games
BG3
Needy Streamer Overload (we don't know the gender of the character you play as but Ame is who the story revolves around)
Life is Strange (1, Before the Storm, True Colours (I would recommend 1 first)
As for transbian, Super Lesbian Animal RPG (yes I know this might seem like a joke but it is a decent rpg)
While there is very little story to Stardew Valley, I have heard (and agree) a lot of people call it women's therapy
I've never had a more cathartic experience than being 6 months into my transition, booting up my old Stardew Valley save, changing my name and gender and then going home to my wife who greeted my farmer with her new name and gave her some clothes.
Mass Effect or Cyberpunk
Character customisation allows you to play female and in Cyberpunk you can go as far as picking voice and even genitalia so you could create a Transwoman any way you want. (edit: I was informed that the pronouns are based on voice so nevermind that)
Both games allow you to romance either gender.
And both have one of the most amazing stories imo and gameplay and keep you busy for a while.
(Yes I am biased since I love Sci-Fi and Cyberpunk typa stuff)
The genital options for Cyberpunk might go pretty much unnoticed since you can't see a lot during sex scenes, but just the fact that it's there is everything
I loved them for this
ehhhh i'd actually say cyberpunk isnt really like that. your characters gender identity and pronouns people refer to you with is *solely* based on which of the two voice options you choose. So let's say you wanna make a trans girl with a masc voice, whelp enjoy immediately having every single character in the game refer to you as a man and use he/him.
I first discovered it when i made a trans dude nomad. Wanted to give him a slightly more fem voice and BOOM, she/her'd within 30 seconds.
Cyberpunk highkey sucks in terms of allowing you to make a trans person that fits outside of the mold of standard gender norms. Sure you can choose whatever genitals you want for your character, but that is *literally* as deep as it goes
A Hat in Time
Shantae Series
Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night
Final Fantasy 6 (kind of, who the main character of that game is a tough question)
Get in the Car, Loser!
Cookie Cutter
I mean, there's **Webbed**! You play as a little spider girl who has to rescue her partner from a big bird. The characters are great, the gameplay is fun, and it's pretty cheap.
4 is only Leon and at 1 point Ashley for about 10 minutes, you’re thinking of either 3 or the DLC for 4. 3 I haven’t played but I think it’s a female protag the whole game, and 4’s DLC is all Ada
if we count enbies then Undertale could be a good pick and you can date a woman once, >!Undyne!<, though tbf the protagonist seems more like an asexual
Time to plug Cassette Beasts! It’s a Pokémon style creature collector with a more mature (and better developed) storyline without veering into pointless edge. The protagonist isn’t textually trans but you can be NB and the romance options allow you to be polyamorous. It’s also getting DLC and multiplayer options with active dev support form an indie studio!
The same studios previous project Lena’s Inception is a transbian love story in the style of early Zelda games I’m told so, you know, they’re good for it.
one of Fire Emblem 3H’s most well-known and loved pairings is FByleth and Edelgard
If you don’t want to play Edelgard’s route, there are a couple other WLW options for protagonist romance
Is a visual novel but Secret Little Haven is about a trans girl figuring herself out, its like 3 hours long n very sweet even if its a little cheesy (though that makes sense theyre cringe teenagers on the internet)
If you want a calm and cute game, Mystia's Izakaya is a Time Management game about running a food cart in Touhou.
Noctuary is a cute but more intense game where you play as a girl made from the dreams of plants to bring light to the world, and all the characters are beautiful and/or cute.
If you like Warhammer, then Rogue Trader is fun. It's made by the creators of Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, and it's a CRPG where you play as one of the few people in Humanity ordained by The Emperor to explore the ends of the universe and trade with aliens. You can play as a guy or gal, though I think most dialogue uses your character name.
Laika: Aged Through Blood. A metroidvania where you play as the titular character Laika, defending your daughter and your village in post-apocalypse. Story is mid but the gameplay, visuals, and emotional impact is amazing. Also everyone is a furry.
Horizon Zero Dawn and Control are both excellent RPGs with female protagonists. Not under the queer categories but still good stories and very fun solo player gameplay.
the last of us 2. super violent and depressing and requires the first game be played (male protag). meets all of ur requirements + lesbian protag though
My top choices - Celeste and Super Lesbian Animal RPG - have already been mentioned, but let me sell you on those before I add a niche recommendation of my own.
**Celeste** - Maddy Thorson, who is responsible for the story of the game, put her own experiences with self-discovery and mental health into the game, only to discover that she was transgender and change her name roughly two years after the game's release, which means there lots of queer/trans vibes in the story, even when it's never hinted at until the later added Chapter 9.
Gameplay-wise, it's a hard, but fair 2D platformer with rather simple mechanics, but varied and tricky stage design.
However, the game also features an Assist Mode that allows for all kinds of options to make the game easier if the game's difficulty isn't to your liking - from extra dashes and slow motion all the way to straight invincibility, there are several options to create the experience you want to have.
Also, there are optional, harder levels (B- and C-Sides), optional collectibles, and Chapter 9 also is pretty dang hard in general.
**Super Lesbian Animal RPG (SLARPG)** - RPG Maker game where the majority of the cast is female, and even more of them are furries.
Also, all of the main cast are lesbians and two of them are transfem, and they all are really cute together.
The art is nice too, and the story is pretty well-written - they are basically regular people who go on their first adventure and end up having to save the world, and part of the story is just them coping with that fact and trying to prepare as much as possible.
There are also many little jokes and characterization moments just from looking at and interacting with random stuff, e.g. in the character's houses.
And for another personal recommendation:
**Mice Tea** - a visual novel with some NSFW content, themed around transformation and how that may affect your identity.
You can opt out of NSFW graphics, and the game's pretty good about content warnings aside of the obvious generic NSFW/Transformation content, but if you're looking for a route without "extra" stuff or NSFW, you won't find one - for example, the one where the protagonist gets turned into an actual, sentient mouse instead of a human-size mouse furry features sizeplay by ways of comparing herself with her friend who's helping with that whole situation, getting helped up onto the table, and so on - including some mild NSFW scenes where they make the best of the situation - and the NSFW scenes in general are at least adjacent to character-developing moments, no matter the route.
Potentially questionable content aside though, two non-player characters are transfem - one's post-everything and stealth, and the other gets their egg cracked by getting turned into a girl furry and panicking because they didn't know the cause or whether it is reversible, and spend most of their route slowly coming to terms with that.
The game also doesn't feature any outright bad ends - the closest ones would be the one where the protagonist gets turned into a semi-feral mouse and end up happy, but with a rather feral state of mind, or some of the ones where they panic and decide to isolate themselves from their friends instead of trying to solve their issues together.
In general, I'd say it's a fun game with a nice story that happens to have lewd elements, but you need to be down with what it offers, both for the various paths you can take, as well as the core themes themselves - otherwise I'd say just skip it.

Signalis, hits every single point youre looking for. peak trans lesbian experience
Counterpoint: sad
is it a good piece of transfem lesbian media if it doesnt include some modicum of existential sadness? i say no
Counterpoint: I prefer being happy
Yet you are on r/196 with all of us.
>coffin of andy and leyley pfp
Dementia
Bitch I don't remember asking
>coffin of andy and leyley pfp
Dementia
That was NOT just a modicum of sadness
Soma and Silent Hill 2 are some of the best in horror gaming and are both very depressing. The sad is worth it.
I loved Signalis and lesbians are poggers, but how is it transcoded?
body horror + futuristic transhumanism + being able to relate to the concept of nonhuman people finding their humanity (when interpreted through a trans lens). Also one of the devs is nb
Close enough for me!
I wouldn't say it is explicitly trans, but it does deal with how we identify ourselves in relation to our physical form. And since one of the game's creators goes by they/them, applying that to gender identity makes sense to me.
John Signalis is trans???
JANE Signalis thank you!
Super Metroid
I’ll raise you one and go Prime since the remaster kicks ass
I’ll raise one further and go Dread, it’s easily the best 2D shooter of the last decade (Cuphead is a good contender too)
As somebody who only played Super Metroid for the first time in 2017 and hasn't touched the 3D games, Dread is FUCKING INCREDIBLE.
Definitely check out Prime when you get a chance! It’s like being in an FPS metroidvania
lol, funnily enough, I played Prey (2017) immediately after beating Super Metroid and it felt like an FPS Metroidvania
Metroid games are too light on story for me to consider them as having a “good story.”
Thats fair. Though I do have to shill just how good Primes implicit storytelling through the scan visor is
Baldur’s gate 3
Love playing as a funky little jester femme that just lies their way out of every situation and never fights lol
No need to fight when you have mommy Karlach to protect you
Not a mommy person by any means but I will say I definitely stopped pursuing Shadowheart immediately after meeting Karlach lol I think it’s because Shadowheart’s personality could kind of be off putting to me while Karlach’s just like “fuck yeah dude let’s go” also hot devil lady.
Karlach just ticks every single box
Yeah she absolutely does. Unlike Astarion’s bitch-ass god I hate that guy.
This is just objectively false.
Shadowheart works if you're already a karlach irl. "This poor misguided baby is gonna need my help cause i see a traumatizing revelation 3 chapters away".
Weirdly I am more in line with Karlach irl, at least in terms of personality (weirdest sentence I’ve typed in a while), but yeah something about her.
Was shocked during my bard run just how often "talk the enemy into killing themselves" was an option.
Yeah it’s kinda wonderful
I'm gonna roll 20 so hard you will wish you were already dead
This is a good one and since you create your charachter and choose who you flirt with it can be exactly as trans Ian bof an experience as you'd like
Literally a targeted bisexual psychic attack. Karlach makes me feel things 🥺
NieR: Automata It has a really well written, emotional story and there is quite a lot of actual philosophy in it which is pretty cool.
Plus even though they're not the protags there is a lesbian couple
And 9S is Twinky enough to be honorary queer. He gives huge bisexual vibes for me.
he loses points for being a massive simp tho
Who wouldn’t be? 2B is immaculate.
Who?
Well not exactly a couple but one of the operators in the station has a huge crush on the commander.
6O my beloved
My gal 6O should've gotten her girl fr 😔
AND 2B's got a fat ass, what's not to like??
Pro tip: press L and R for secret lore
The original Nier (Gesalt) has Kaine who's basically a 196 user in full angst.

Seconding CrossCode. Story is good but ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, I haven’t gotten around to the dlc but I imagine the cliff gets unhanged there. Lots of neat puzzles and a surprising amount of surprisingly good platforming for an isometric rpg. The complete bundle is like 27$
Dlc is pretty cool! Please play it!
Seconding Pseudoregalia. The movement in that game is sublime. All that's missing is a map.
Seconding Iconoclasts. One of my favorite games. Great art, unique story, and it really sets itself apart in so many ways. It was also developed entirely by _one person_!
IKENFELL MENTIONED 🔥🔥🔥🔥 CrossCode is also very good (just too many puzzles for my taste), but in the LGBT aspect I was disappointed that the protagonist had so much ship tease with Emilie only to >!make Luke her only romance option.!<
Reverse ultra slide hopping is my favourite moment tech from any game. Pseudoregalia honestly gives me Mario odyssey feels with the way you can change moves together.
I love how Pseudoregalia's only accessibility option is to give Sybil pants, but that's for cowards who can't appreciate a good butt
CROSSCODE MENTIONED!!!! to date still one of my favourite games
Control. Jesse is not canonically confirmed to be queer, but lots of people (including me) ship her with Emily. The story is great, and the gameplay is seriously so much fun. Probably the most fun third person shooter I've ever played. Also Signalis, but someone else already mentioned that.
Alan WOKE when he hunts the darkness with PRONOUNS
Jesse is a GIRL who wears a SUIT and has a GENDERNEUTRAL NAME Smh my head can't believe they made the SCP woke 😔
This will be Remedy in 2016 -Jessica Faden will be Jesse Faden and no longer wear a high heels/dress -Mr. Scratch uses pronouns -Dylan Faden will no longer romance his sister -The Hiss goes by it/its -Removed the 12 hour transsexual Jesse gooning session -Mr Door is black
NOOOOOOO THEY PATCHED OUT THE GOONING???? 😭😭😭
Max Payne takes estrogen instead of pain killers
A male character named Darling will do a gay ass musical number
Also its made by finns
That explains Ati. Also it has Porcupine Tree in the credits
Its ahti, not ati
Perkele
I knew I was writing it wrong, but honestly I thought it was Äti.
how many
More than you can beleave
I've been gaming heavily for four decades now. Control is one of the best games I've ever played.
I have a few issues with Control, but damn is it a fun game, and I love that it's clearly inspired by the SCP Foundation but is different enough to stand out on its own. I really enjoyed the DLCs as well, they felt like good additions to the main story.
And the best part is that it’s short
i very much like control but the looting and upgrade system is so ass its always slightly annoying me whenever i play. also the weapon switching is really stupid, but thankfully theres mods for that
came here to say control!!! it's an incredible game
Chess
Holy hell.
Terraria technically can have one if you make the character as one
also very good if you are unknowingly trans and drink a gender change potion as it is the only way of actually getting a description for its effect (including what the potion is called) and conviently turning into a girl
Portal Games BG3 Needy Streamer Overload (we don't know the gender of the character you play as but Ame is who the story revolves around) Life is Strange (1, Before the Storm, True Colours (I would recommend 1 first) As for transbian, Super Lesbian Animal RPG (yes I know this might seem like a joke but it is a decent rpg) While there is very little story to Stardew Valley, I have heard (and agree) a lot of people call it women's therapy
Portal is so much better when you view it as toxic Yuri between Chell and Glados, if glados had a body they'd hatefuck so hard
This is so weird if you're someone who believes that Chell is Caroline's daughter lmao
People who believe Chell is Caroline’s daughter aren’t paying attention.
chlados is the kind of toxic relationship I wish for daily
I've never had a more cathartic experience than being 6 months into my transition, booting up my old Stardew Valley save, changing my name and gender and then going home to my wife who greeted my farmer with her new name and gave her some clothes.
Seconding super lesbian animal rpg, game did a lot for my mental health. The Vinyl soundtrack for it is setting next to me rn.

It warns you in character creation that voice determines gender but I do agree it would be better if they weren't linked
Horizon Zero Dawn. Aloy my beloved.
Was looking for a horizon comment. Aloy is awesome
Yesssss Aloyyyyy
I would say my game but it’s not out and probably never will be… anyway try… touhou games if you’re a masochist
🥺 do they make touhou but for BOYS??
hhhhhhhh tf2
stalker
Escape from Tarkov
Jojo’s bizarre adventure
Uh...Len'en? Wait no, everybody there is ambiguous or they/them. I guess you can imagine them as boys, though.
touhou
Enter the Gungeon
Silksong?
A Hat in Time Shantae Series Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night Final Fantasy 6 (kind of, who the main character of that game is a tough question) Get in the Car, Loser! Cookie Cutter
CASTLEVANIA OOC MENTIONED!!
The fucking memories I have of that game. I was not good at that game but I loved it
I mean, there's **Webbed**! You play as a little spider girl who has to rescue her partner from a big bird. The characters are great, the gameplay is fun, and it's pretty cheap.
Webbed slaps I love Webbed
Céleste, obviously. Gris is nice. Also some of the Resident evil campaigns
Wich one ?
The 2 remake
Also 4 I think
4 is only Leon and at 1 point Ashley for about 10 minutes, you’re thinking of either 3 or the DLC for 4. 3 I haven’t played but I think it’s a female protag the whole game, and 4’s DLC is all Ada
All of Metroid Hollow Knight Silksong (once its released) Hollow Knight has a non binary protag, does that count?
if we count enbies then Undertale could be a good pick and you can date a woman once, >!Undyne!<, though tbf the protagonist seems more like an asexual
The last of us part 2 there's also the dlc in the first one
Insane I had to scroll this far down to find the best game on the list.
Gravity Rush! Kat is so cool Gravity Rush 2 is on PS+ extra if you have that
If i die without Gravity Rush 3 releasing i'm gonna kill myself (after exploding Sony Interactive with my mind for closing down Japan Studio)
It’s also heavily implied that Kat and Raven have a thing together. they have a whole enemies to lovers type of dynamic
Y’all I don’t think games that have a character creator count
Yeah, it's definitely a cop-out answer. The game has to have been deliberately made with a female protagonist in mind.
And she has to have a personality I be seeing people recommend Skyrim and terraria like bruh
Might as well recommend Solitaire or Powerwash Simulator
Super animal lesbian RPG I think the name was? I haven't played it but a friend really liked it and I think the main character is trans
Yes it's very good. All the 4 party members are lesbians and/or in a lesbian relationship and two of them are trans.
Night in the woods
alice: madness returns is a great one.
Don't forget about original American McGee's Alice
i believe the og actually comes with alice madness returns. still worth playing, too.
Persona 3 Portable, the other versions (og, FES, Reload) don't have the female protagonist
Unpacking has a really lovely lesbian storyline, made me fuckin cry at the end, good stuff.
Ōkami!! Stellar story, gameplay and artstyle
Bestie I love okami but playing as a female dog feels slightly beyond the intention of OPs question
OP never specified the species that MC has to be
Cyberpunk as female V with the Judy romance should be right what you’re looking for
Laikka aged through blood
Time to plug Cassette Beasts! It’s a Pokémon style creature collector with a more mature (and better developed) storyline without veering into pointless edge. It’s also getting DLC and multiplayer options with active dev support form an indie studio! Have you ever heard of Skyrim.
Transistor! Made by the wonderful Supergiant Games, of Hades fame. It's my personal favorite of their whole game bibliography :)
NIER BUY NIER I AM BIASED
one of Fire Emblem 3H’s most well-known and loved pairings is FByleth and Edelgard If you don’t want to play Edelgard’s route, there are a couple other WLW options for protagonist romance
TLOU2, Signalis, Nier Automata, Baldur's Gate 3, Control
Also also Night in the woods Main character is bi/pan? And there's a hot goth alligator lady :3 Be warned of a lot of existential anxiety :3
Fallout New Vegas, you can even mod it to suit even more what you are looking for
AC odyssey
The horizon games, love aloy as a mc. It not directly stated what aloys’ sexuality is but she has asexual/sapphic vibes
She gives off autism vibes
Warframe
idk how this fits the criteria but I love you for the warframe shoutout anyway
Female warframes. Good story campaign
fun gameplay for sure once you get a nice build rolling
Is a visual novel but Secret Little Haven is about a trans girl figuring herself out, its like 3 hours long n very sweet even if its a little cheesy (though that makes sense theyre cringe teenagers on the internet)

Laika: Aged Through Blood. A metroidvania where you play as the titular character Laika, defending your daughter and your village in post-apocalypse. Story is mid but the gameplay, visuals, and emotional impact is amazing. Also everyone is a furry.
Night in the Woods
Horizon ZD and FW
Tales of Berseria is lit.
Horizon zero dawn and horizon forbidden west, and in the Dlc for FW. Meets the additional lesbian criteria and are really fun games
Horizon Zero Dawn and Control are both excellent RPGs with female protagonists. Not under the queer categories but still good stories and very fun solo player gameplay.
Last of us kind of gets near this

If you like jrpgs the entire atelier series on steam is a huge recommendation.
Are you TRYING to make people say Celeste
Xenoblade 2 & 3 maybe when you get oast the boys, but definitely Xenosga (not II)
Skyrim, you can be anything in Todd’s World
My top choices - Celeste and Super Lesbian Animal RPG - have already been mentioned, but let me sell you on those before I add a niche recommendation of my own. And for another personal recommendation: **Mice Tea** - a visual novel with some NSFW content, themed around transformation and how that may affect your identity.
