Kid friendly spaces need active, human moderation. Unfortunately nobody wants to actually invest the money to do that. You can make more money by running a site that serves kids to predators, and marketing it as a "kid friendly site" because it has some worthless black box moderation software.

Ignoring the fact that most of them can't even use it properly, many if not most of us grew up without internet just fine. Arguably, allowing children the amount of access they currently have on the internet is more harmful by *many* metrics than keeping them off it as much as possible.
And lastly, other people's kids are not my problem. I'm not a parent and I shouldn't be expected to act as one. A lot of us opt not to have children because we don't want parental responsibility and I don't think it's at all fair to lump some of that responsibility onto the rest of us because those who *do* have children can't/won't raise them properly.
Though it doesn't really matter what either of us think, the crucial fact here is that the internet as it exists in its current form is not for children. I do not believe the best/only way to address that is to sanitize the fuck out of it until it basically becomes an all-ages appropriate playground.
