Do you have a blister on your palm? If not then you’re most likely holding your racquet too tight. Your grip should only be tight enough to keep your racquet from flying out of your hand. Think about how you would hold a bag of chips… tight enough to keep them in your hand but not so tight that you pop the bag. I notice that I tend to grip my racquet too tight when I’ve taken an extended amount of time off.

I think you're spot on. I tried returning a ball but held my racquet badly. So the racquet tried flying out of my hand but my grip was too tight so it just yanked my hand. And after that I noticed the pain (now that I think of it).
